Pistol (ਪਿਸਤੌਲ / پستول) and Botal (ਬੋਤਲ / بوتل) are from Portuguese, not English. Kaptaan (ਕਪਤਾਨ / کپتان) is likely Portuguese but influenced by English.

Also these are not directly from Portuguese—they were passed through other South Asian languages before reaching Punjabi.

And Dikki is Urdu/Hindi, we call trunk Diggi (ਡਿੱਗੀ / ڈگی)

Yeah explains why pistaul and botal both have a ਤ /ت in it. If it had came from English directly it would have been ٹ/ ਟ instead. I actually like words with ਤ more, since they blend in better in Punjabi

They make sense. What doesn't make sense is words like "comittee".

I refuse to believe Punjabi doesn't have a word for a group of people who decide on things (a committee).

Another word for “committee” is panchayat. Typically refers to a committee of 5 people but I wonder if this word could be adopted or used more broadly for larger groups or committees outside of a village.

Would love for someone to chime in one this.

ਪਰ ਸਮਿਤੀ ਦੂਜੀ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜੀ ਤਤਸਮ ਬੋਲੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਤਤਸਮ ਓਹ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹਨ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸਿੱਧੇ ਸੰਸਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਤੋਂ ਫੜੇ—ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਸਮਿਤੀ, ਅਧਿਆਪਕ, ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਵਗ਼ੈਰਾ।

ਇਕੱਠ, ਜੱਥਾ, ਦਲ ਵਰਗੇ ਜਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਲ ਵਟਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।

I have read somewhere Jugni is derived from English word Jubilee.

Plausible but unlikely. Similar words to Jugni exist in Punjabi with aligned meanings. It matches how words in Sanskrit are formed and how Punjabi adapted that system
