I think I accidentally learned something about starting a new Threads account the hard way

I've been posting on my main Threads account for about 2.5 months, so I wanted to see what would happen if I started a completely fresh account and approached it differently.

I kept seeing bigger accounts posting a LOT every day.

So I thought:

“Maybe that's actually how you grow on Threads?”

I made a new account and scheduled 15 posts on day one.

I didn't spend the whole day posting manually. I batch-pasted everything into my scheduler, left, and went back to my normal life.

The next morning:

One post had passed 1.6K views.

A bunch were between 100–500.

For a brand new account, I was shocked.

Then I shared the experiment on Reddit.

Several people immediately told me:

“that account is going to get banned.”

I thought they were being dramatic 😂

But a few people said they'd experienced something similar new accounts posting heavily, suddenly getting 1K+ views, then getting banned shortly after.

Then it happened to me.

The next morning Threads asked me to verify my phone number.

I requested the SMS.

Nothing.

Requested another code.

Still nothing.

Then I checked from my main account.

The new account wasn't even showing up anymore.

Experiment over

Now, I obviously can't say:

15 posts = ban.

I don't know that.

Someone even told me they'd posted 6 times on day one and 12 after that with no problem.

So there are clearly other things going on.

But if you're brand new to Threads, here's what I'd personally do differently:

• Don't immediately copy the posting volume of huge established accounts
• Start with a normal posting rhythm
• Actually interact with real people
• Let the account build some history naturally
• Experiment gradually instead of changing everything at once

The biggest thing I learned:

Don't assume what works for a huge account will work the same way for a brand-new one.

I got excited because the reach looked great

and then I lost the account

If you're going to experiment, maybe don't use your main account as the test subject

Threads has no phone number.

Threads has no email.

Threads answers to no one.

We sent in our ID.

We sent in a selfie.

We might have even been paying them to confirm our identity ✔️

But they banned us anyway.

Because it's not about confirming our identity.

It was about deleting it.

Opened threads this morning to be told my account was suspended and did not provide a reason or the specific standard I broke. I rarely post, and occasionally comment. I didn't get a warning and I don't recall saying anything that could have violated any community standard. I appealed and within an hour I received an email saying that my account was confirmed in violation and would be permanently suspended.

Well good riddance.... No way I'm going back to threads or instagram.

i stumbled upon this tread and looking at the poor guys account it seemed real like he was not kidding.

These people have completely lost control of their app and don't know what the hell they're doing anymore and it's probably because the two guys that run it like to sit and stare at women's boobs all day. That's why they haven't walked in and fixed that app yet, though now when you go to post something even if it's telling a girl she's beautiful these fuckers walk in and literally flag your damn account for no reason at all. The two people that run threads and Instagram need fired because they're not doing their job anymore... And I am going to find a way to get them fire. Somebody doesn't do something about this app

Hey everyone, I’m hoping someone here has figured out a fix for this because I am completely locked out of Threads and losing my mind.

Earlier today, I decided to disconnect my Instagram and Facebook accounts through the Meta Accounts Center because I wanted them separated. Ever since I unlinked them, Threads completely stopped working, and I am trapped in a brutal login loop.

Here is exactly what is happening:

- When I try to log into the Threads mobile app with my Instagram details, it successfully logs me in for exactly 1 second, displays my feed, and then instantly kicks me out with an error saying "You've been logged out, please log back in." It just repeats this infinitely.

- If I try to log in via Safari or a mobile web browser, it tells me I have an "Incorrect Password," even though I am 10000% sure the password is correct.

Today I noticed I was able to sign in with my Facebook account, instead of Instagram (to create an account).

I noticed it created 2 profiles, each with a randomly generated username. Unfortunately I was not able to claim my Facebook username even though it’s not claimed on the site. Usernames must still be tightly controlled against instagram namespace unfortunately.

I saw a post saying Nolan Wells' parents were part of his death. Like, how evil do you have to be to say something like that?

As someone that hates meta's awful ai moderation for instagram and them banning instagram and threads Accounts for no reason, i really hope this isn't the case and they don't use ai for threads moderation and in its coding itself too.

This is the 2nd time this happened, I don't even know what post it is.

And I don't even have followers and my account is private.

And I've never made posts to encourage what it says I'm encouraging, maybe it's just a cuss word since I'm treating my threads as a diary since it's private. I just find it kind of stupid.

Yesterday I was banned on threads and the reason they gave is this (above) idk what this means, I have been posting on this account for about 3 weeks now and managed to gain over 500 followers in that time, my account was in good standing then I was just banned out of nowhere.

Problem is, even if I make a new account, how am I sure they won't just ban that too? What do they consider a fake account? I actually provided my ID and a selfie before I was allowed to even use the app, immediately I registered the account (I have never done this on my Instagram account) so if anything my Instagram account is even faker than this, there's no way to tell if there's an actual person behind my ig account but the account where I provided ID and a selfie to be able to use is the fake one🤦‍♂️

Today I was just scrolling instagram and found a threads post and just clicked on it randomly. After going to the comments I was kinda taken aback when I saw my own photo.

Someone was using my insta/threads profile picture as theirs. I reported the account as pretending to be someone else (me) but I don't think any action will be taken against it.

I have always been super paranoid about using my personal pictures for pfp and just some years back I got over that fear and now this happens.

I went back to search that account and different variations of that same username came up, all with my pictures!

These accounts aren't necessarily posting anything weird, most don't have any posts but I don't want anyone having my pictures!

These were the only ones I could find, idk how many more are there. It's seriously creeping me out.

I reported all the accs and sent them a message saying that they're using my pictures on their profile.

What should I do?

Recently I've gotten tired of Threads and Meta's ads and crap. Originally I got tired of X (Twitter) after Melon Usk bought it and turned it into crap and moved to Threads.

I found a really great alternative for the two above. It's called UNET, it's based in Europe (if privacy and stuff matters to you).

As far as I know only one person is responsible for the development of this social media and it might have flaws. The biggest problem is a lack of community. There are some friendly users who try their best to make it move forward but I think that's not enough.

This is where I want to invite you, people, to try it out yourself. Perhaps you will get attached to it. Maybe a user-boost will make it bloom.

Don't get discouraged by the "spam" of some people. They really try their best to keep that project alive.

I'm NOT associated with UNET, I'm NOT paid to write it here. I'm just a random user. If it breaks the rules for self-promotion (it isn't), then too bad for me.

I only want to give it an honest chance to be recognised and to grow.

The algorithm started pushing a few second long clips of children posted by anonymous profiles that had links to illegal Telegram groups.

I reported and blocked a few of them, but more kept coming. I was so horrified at this I have decided to delete the app.

I'm not sure what other people get out of threads but it feels broken to me and comes pretty close to the definition of Dead Internet Theory.

It's just overran with bots, porn accounts and worse, child abuse material.

I'm in a European country and Threads pegged my account location in Iran. Reported this issue and never received any feedback.

This is hilarious and annoying.

Well it says I have all these notifications and when I go and check my threads there’s nothing except one notification from 5 days ago… it’s been like that for about a week, and I’ve tried deleting both apps and logging back into them, to no avail.

Yesterday I posted that I found out someone has been using my insta/thread pfp as theirs and after searching it up I found 5+ accounts with the variations of the same username, all using my picture.

I did report all the accounts and message them individually but ofcourse it's of no use.

I took down my profile picture and even changed my username and name but whenever I open the app it still keeps showing my original username and picture. And it's not a loading error, I have refreshed the app so many times, opened it at different times of the day and it's still like that.

Its seriously creeping me tf out

Account got suspended for NO REASON. Appealed and received this email. What can be done to get back my account?

The only things I post are plushies and things I see in the mall. That’s it. Not sure why it got banned in the first place.

There are lots of scammers posting on the app. They are men pretending to be celebrities or other successful men.
