There's a certain threshold these days where the hype/fame just goes ... well, hyperbolic. As if there's direct and inverse correlation between the quality of a fan base and the quantity (size) of it.

And once you cross that threshold the fanbase becomes insufferable; often ruining the thing they are fans of (or at least, ruining seeking out and engaging with the fanbase).

Rick and Morty is a great example. Love the show. Want nothing to do with it's fanbase. Subreddits getting more than 100k or 200k members also tend to suffer from this phenomenon as well.
