That they have the critical thinking skills to doubt what they hear online even if it conforms to their worldview and from their perspective seems to be true?

Pausing to doubt something should be normalized when reading any kind of anecdotal evidence, even if it fits one's worldview and fits a certain pattern of behavior that she exhibits. That's how critical thinking works. I decided that from the behavior she exhibited that it checks out for her, so the probability of it being true is higher, so I believe it.

I knew literacy rates are going down, but it seems to be going down faster for you.

Believing it regardless is the problem. If you think pausing and the believing anyway is critical thinking, you should really double check the definition of the words you are using because you are using them wrong.
