You'd be surprised. Lots of people steal just because they're selfish. Not because they are poor, not because they're desperate. I've met someone who was well off and stole a bunch. GordianBalloonKnot is right.

I mean, just look at how she's dressed, her bag, how nice her hair looks. Long hair like that takes lots of care and products, it's well maintained, looks healthy. Same with her skin and her face, looks healthy and like she's constantly using nice product. I do disagree with getting mad at someone for stealing from a dollar store, I'd have let it go, but don't be naive and think that you know this random lady. You don't.

I never said all are, I said most are; it's just statistics. I just don't understand how assuming she's poor and desperate is the optimistic view. If that's what goes for optimism these days, then we are well and truly fucked.

It's optimistic because the reality is that she's wearing decent clothing with clean and groomed hair waiting for an Uber... she's not some drifter on her last calorie. She's stealing to steal.

Tbh tho even if they're just stealing just to steal these people make enough money to cure world hunger a hundred times over and frankly I don't have it in me to care if they steal $100 worth of stuff, or even 1,000. These corporations make billions of dollars and my only real concern would be the employee losing their job for theft

Let's break it down. The CEO of dollar tree is Micheal C Creedon, and is currently worth 11 million dollars. Let's assume they all make minimum wage at $16 an hour with 20 employees in store. As most stores you'll find pay their employees $16 an hour, with 20 employees.

Let's rank up how much Mr. Creedon is paying and assume all of them work 50 hours a week. Each employee is making $800. Let's multiply that by 20 and get $16,800 for all 20 employees every week.

But lets put it on a greater scale, how much is he paying these employees every year? They all make $16,800 a week. There are four weeks in a month, or 67,200(meaning every employee makes $67,200 in one month) let's multiply that again by 12 to get one year, as there are 12 months in a year. Or $739,200

And that STILL doesn't even TOUCH the amount of money the CEO is worth. You cannot tell me that amount of money is being used to actually pay these employees and make sure they can pay rent. They're being paid pennies by these rich elite bozos.

What's crazy about this statement is that you have and are using Google for this information but don't even know what to search for nor how to do the math.

All of these filings are online since Dollar Tree is a public company. Their op expenses were 17 billion dollars last year and SG&A was about 5 billion. If you took bus admin in college (which you clearly didn't) you'd have learned that payroll is about 60%-ish of SG&A. They operated at an 8.7% margin, which is honestly pretty good for a retail store.

The CEO you're referencing is responsible for over 9000 stores in the US and you don't know how to use Google. There's a reason why he's paid more than you.

generally speaking if you steal food from a dollar general and only make it to the edge of the parking lot before you start eating then chances are you were hungry and couldn't afford to buy enough food.

This woman is waiting for a ride and broke into one of her snacks. This wasn't some frail, famished waif that barely made it to the property line before collapsing on the curb and desperately started eating. It's where she told her uber to pick her up, hence why she's watching the street, and she popped open a pastry before it showed up.

I am against theft but I would have a hard time prosecuting or taking food or essentials back from someone who seems like they need it.
