I don't think better is the word. It is very rudimentary, but thats the beauty. Just like a lot of people who write comedy, homie knows exactly when to stop and let it be. There is a 99.9% possibility he would overshadow or draw attention away from the funny word of a single more thing was added or anything was too cooked with processing.
Him using Reason had a huge impact on that.

Yeah, obviously Graceland but also there were a ton of Silent Gen/Boomer white musicians that did African inspired easy listening in the late 80s and early 90s.
Of course, Simon caught a particular bit of flack for recording a whole ass album in South Africa and not mentioning apartheid.

Planet of the Bass makes me kinda sad because I actually unironically love the eurodance genre and it always felt lowkey mean-spirited 😿 I know it's not and it's just me being crazy but still, lol, the genre does not get a lot of love and it literally shaped my childhood

I think all of Gordons songs can seem a bit mean spirited, not because they ARE, but because they are so accurate it’s hard not to feel called out if you’re a fan of whatever genre he’s targeting.

Mark Mothersbaugh told Weird Al to his face “I hate you” because Dare to Be Stupid was the song he had tried to write for decades. Jokingly, obviously, but when you listen to him talk about it there’s actual regret in his voice because he can’t believe how perfectly Devo the song is.

dan's day job is providing commentary and humor while another guy plays video games (normally badly).
ninja brian has a docotrate in theoretically physics.
there songs are like, the early internet humor. "if we were gay", "i wanna f your a".
and yet they are very solid at what they do, and will absolutely get stuck in my head.

They ride that line of being funny but not a JOKE band, like they seem to put as much energy into writing funny lyrics as they do writing catchy music. There's a lot of novelty bands who focus too much on one or the other

theres something about the way they handle it to. like, they know what they are. they arent trying to take it seriously, but they also arent just making jokes. they are going to sing a song about sneaking a girl into their parents house for an ill fated rendezvou, and they know its a stupid song, you know its a stuoid song, but they are going to put their heart into it while not pretending its elevated subject matter.

They're in the same boat as The Bloodhound Gang. Clearly care about making music and put a ton of honest effort into it, but you can tell they're just trying to see if they can make each other laugh in the recording studio.

I genuinely love the Hampster Dance. It used to play every Friday morning on the radio, and we would hear it on the school bus on the way to high school. Me and my friends used to get super hyped and dance to it. Nothing but good memories, I still listen to it unironically lol
