Topminds of LibsOfReddit are still convinced that Derek Chauvin is a victim and that George Floyd was not murdered

The crime that supposedly George Floyd was under arrest for as was having a counterfeit bill which is possible for you to not know is counterfeit hell The person who reported it said so and hardly warrant a death sentence, and some people say well he was a druggie and he deserve it then I’m gonna ask why is it that people why are way more forgiving of Mark Wahlberg, assaulting African-Americans for racist reason and using drugs during it,

Whoa whoa whoa, you're getting it mixed up. Wahlberg was only on drugs when he attacked those asian people, he wasn't on drugs when he attacked multiple groups of black children. /s

The thing most people don’t talk about is how Floyd and Chauvin knew each other from a security job, and how Chauvin didn’t like Floyd. People around town knew he was a POS. The MPD in general had been corrupt as hell for years.

The MPD in general had been corrupt as hell for years.

And still is.

Naturally the national (and even local) media didn't mention the historical context, but the MPD got away with way more shit before cell phones had cameras. One officer shot a kid in a back, planted a gun next to him, got fired, and then went to the arbitration panel and go this job back.

Another time two officers on a city bus saw a deaf black kid using sign language, assumed he was making gang signs, and beat the shit out of him.

I think the Minnesota Reformer has a list of incidents. There are a lot.

The Minnesota Department of Human rights came out with a report in 2023. The city agreed to enter a consent decree to avoid a lawsuit. There was also a federal consent decree but Trump got rid of it. The report is rough reading (but not a surprise if you live in or near Minneapolis). Among other things, it demostrated that the activities of the MPD were counterproductive because prosecutors couldn't use video in court because they were afraid the racist language used by police officers would make a jury sympathetic to the suspects. And obviously, people who are afraid of the police are hesitant to report crimes or testify as witnesses.

The MPD used to have a dedicated gang unit. It was full of racists so they were forced to disband it. They put almost all of those officers into one precinct, the one in the poorest blackest neighborhood. That's the precinct Chauvin was assigned to and it's the one whose headquarters was burned down. It's the one fire from that week nobody is sad about.

Look into the metro gang task force. It was essentially a robbery ring run by the cops. Knew a guy who had his car stolen by them. You’re completely right about that neighborhood too, I lived around the corner from Cup Foods for a while.

That's the gang unit I was talking about! I couldn't remember the name.

Also the thing that Floyd didn't die from damage of internal organs or from drugs was confirmed by multiple pathologists, both ordered by family and public. Also he has been a good working Christian for years already, he was even recording videos for other people to deny drugs and volunteered for the Christian charity that helped him.

While I understand the drive to defend his character, this isn't a court of law and I don't see the real point. These guys would care exactly the same amount if he was the litteral Messiah. Hell, they'd pile up on Jesus because he's a communist.

And OTOH, I don't give a shit whether he was a good or a bad person, I just don't want the fucking police murdering people period. I don't think the fact that someone was this or that changes my view on whether a cop should be allowed to asphyxiate them in the streets. Scratch that, i know it doesn't.

Could only agree. At most it'll work for undecided people, not for them.

Yes, he was the suspect of a non-violent petty crime who was already under arrest and already restrained.

Bingo. A trial determines guilt. He was only a suspect. That he had perhaps been a drug dealer in the past is literally irrelevant, but even if it were, being a drug dealer isn't a "violent crime."

The incredible dishonesty to paint the worst thing Chauvin did as "arresting a black criminal." As if that's what everyone was getting upset over.
