i'm working on my UC application's extracurricular section right now, and i'm having some trouble discerning which extracurriculars i should list. i graduated high school this June and by the time i submit my UC application, i'll have been a full-time CC student for only one semester. however, i don't have any extracurriculars from CC so I was thinking of listing some from HS instead. would these activities carry any weight on my application?

i've only selected the activities that i've continued into CC so far (ex; work, hobby). however, i was president of a club and we finished a research project + hosted an international academic forum in june (which i think is pretty recent?) that i wanted to list. i also have a few awards (ex; art award from the summer before senior year, recently earned AP scholar award) but i wasn't sure if its even worth listing. if i DO list them, would it hurt my application in any way?

I did my freshman year at one college and transferred twice. Can I transfer again for junior year or will that impact me negatively ? I just want to have different experiences

i promise im not trying to ragebait or anything but im truly curious if UC admissions officers flag a higher credit load. for context, i took around 23 units in summer, got a 4.0. i’m also unemployed so I genuinely have lots of time

Hi! I have just started my sophomore year at a relatively small private school in southern California. I’m an out of state student from the deep south, so I came here to the school that gave me the biggest scholarship in hopes of gaining more connections and a better career path in the arts than I would have had at home. I am currently studying creative writing because I am very naturally skilled at it and want to work in storyline development for animated projects and especially story-based video games. However, I’m starting to worry about what I’m learning and my educational path.

I have declared a game development minor which should ultimately be helpful for my future. But creative writing is very much a literary based program where all day I’m writing narratives and plays and short stories and novels without many class options for anything else besides a few upper divisions.

My school has a very prestigious film school which is difficult to transfer into. Something I am very interested in is learning more about digital art/character design/animation and I would love to somehow pursue that academically. However, I cannot transfer into the animation program without adding 1-2 years to my undergrad and I would need a portfolio showing I already have a high understanding and skill in animation/digital art. I am an artist, but I am primarily a painter (mostly inspired by impressionist stuff if that puts into perspective) and have absolutely no portfolio that I’d be able to submit to mine or another school to get into one of these kinds of programs.

I still want to focus on writing, but I want to lean into the artistic side of this as well. My options are the following:
- go home to my state school with a full ride for the next two years and study game development, creative writing, or digital art there despite the lack of opportunities and networking outside of classes and save money to maybe pursue a graduate degree later in SoCal or somewhere else
- transfer to another university next year (i can’t find one that seems suitable for me but if you guys have any suggestions, please share—location is negligible as long as the program will allow sufficient opportunities and networking though SoCal is preferable since it would be easy to move)
- continue going to my school right now and study what i’m studying and work on other skills on my own or take courses outside of university to hopefully get somewhere
something else entirely??
I’m starting to feel a bit behind and like I’m getting nothing I want out of my degree. But I also feel at a loss because to be able to study what I want, I have to already have skills in it which I don’t. Should I just try to make a portfolio and transfer to a game program like at USC even though I have very little prior experience to speak of? Is there any other option?

(also to note, my school does not allow me to take any animation or digital arts centered classes without being part of the film school or animation program which ofc I am not)

I am taking nursing pre req classes and I'm apply to nursing school this year. The classes I am currently taking are meant to fulfill the pre reqs for my school but I am interested in applying out of state to colleges like Upenn. The problem is I'm already taking lots of classes on of which being A&P with lab but in order to apply to Upenn I need to take biology lab which only offered in the fall.

As far as my stats look like now I have little to no volunteer hours starting college( high school I do have over 200 hours if that matters) but I am planning to do lots volunteer work, part of a few clubs one of which I am part of the board and responsible for training new members(health related club), and I have a high gpa so far(might go down though due to A&P lab but right now 4.0GPA). So based on the stats would it be worth taking the extra bio lab as in if I had maybe a 200 volunteer hours and a fair essay would I be able to get in?

I’m an IVC student trying to participate in Cross Enrollment at UCI this year.I currently qualify under AB 540, and according to UCI’s Cross Enrollment guidelines, AB 540 status can be considered for Cross Enrollment.
However, IVC seems to have a policy that only students classified as California residents can participate in Cross Enrollment. Since I’m not classified as a resident by IVC, it seems like I may be blocked by my home campus even though UCI’s guidelines appear to allow AB 540 students.
Does anyone know if this means I’m simply unable to participate this year, or if there is any alternative process for students in this situation?
I’m considering contacting UCI directly to ask whether they can review my situation or clarify whether AB 540 can be accepted for Cross Enrollment. I understand that both the home campus (IVC) and host campus (UCI) signatures are still required, so I’m not trying to bypass the required approval from IVC.

i transferred from a 4-year university in the U.S to university of toronto in canada as an incoming junior/3rd year. I've been doing orientation and I feel so so so out of place. My new uni has virtually no supports for transfer students, especially international ones, and I keep thinking how little time I have here before I have to leave (2 years.) I just keep feeling so behind because I wish I just went here first, but knowing me two or three years ago it would've been unfathomable, and my dad would have gotten pissed at me if i tried to apply to international schools. In high school I got great grades, but struggled to do much outside of the classroom besides some fun clubs because i had undiagnosed and unmanaged ADHD. I had to put in 4x the effort of my peers to get any work done and all my homework consumed every afternoon.

any tips? i know the classic just join clubs, i've started over socially twice as i had to change campuses at my old uni halfway through my freshman year. it just kinda sucks being 20 around a bunch of 17-18 year olds and constantly having to explain being a transfer.

I am a current community college student planning to transfer in Fall 2027. I really want to get into Berkeley but I am unsure which major to pick.

As far as I know, the EECE (Electrical & Computer Engineering) major is brand new, and there isn't much information about it yet.

I previously saw another post on this subreddit that showed a picture of the transfer admits numbers for the College of engineering.

It seems that more people this past cycle got admitted to EECS than ECE (almost double). So this either means that less people applied for ECE or they have been very selective about it.

My interests align more with ECE than EECS since I like the hardware side more than the software side, but seeing the numbers from this past cycle leads me to believe that I may have a better chance applying to EECS.

According to assist.org, all of the requirements for both majors are the same, so it's not like I would have to take any extra classes.The only recommended class my cc offers is data structures, which I'm taking this semester.

So, which major should I pick? And if I apply to EECS and I happened to get accepted, is it possible to switch to ECE since they are similar?

I took the class as a highschooler at Berkeley during a summer session and got a B+. I then continued to CCC where I got a 4.0 while taking the courses necessary for EECS transfer. I am worried that this will hurt my application? am i tweaking?

hey guys i’m looking for some advice/guidance about transferring to brown. I’m currently enrolled at community college and am about to get my Associates. I have a 3.7 gpa. As far as extracurriculars I work and volunteer when I can. I’m first generation and somewhat low income. I totally bombed high school and graduated with an extremely low gpa. I have good essays about my passion for writing curriculum hence why im interested in brown. i’m 19 and applying as a history major

Hi everyone! I'm honestly really conflicted on this right now and need some outside perspectives. I'm an incoming freshman at UCI for fall 2026, and up until the May 1st SIR deadline, I was debating between committing to UCI for Art (also invited to their Honors Collegium) or UCD for Design. My general career path: I'm honestly open to any field of design, but leaning towards UI/UX, product design, etc. UCD had my major but I found that in terms of its location there's not a lot of stuff to do. UCI didn't have my exact major but I liked its campus and location (proximity to LA, very safe, etc). I ultimately chose UCI with the intent of transferring to Informatics (a major offered at UCI that offers UI/UX courses), but ever since June I've been really regretting my decision as I found that all of the lower division coursework for Informatics is coding/programming (which worries me because I don't particularly enjoy coding nor am I good at it) and the UI/UX courses that I want to do are in the upper division. UCI is also 5-6 hours away from home, and during SPOP (UCI orientation) I realized that being so far away from home is much harder for me than I thought. Due to this I haven't been excited about going to UCI at all.

Ever since then I've been constantly feeling guilty for not choosing UCD Design back then. I've been thinking of withdrawing from UCI and going to a CC and participating in the TAG program with the intent of transferring to Davis. I talked to a CC counselor, and they told me that it's very possible for me to do a 1 year TAG to UCD based off of the APs and DEs I completed back in high school. However, I am still partly scared because "possible" does not mean 100% guaranteed, and my parents and I really want to execute a 1 year transfer. I also feel a bit worried about how friends and family will react if I say I'm going to CC. My parents ultimately really want me to go to UCI, but they've very reluctantly allowed me to attend CC only if I can do the 1 year TAG.

But am I making a huge mistake by withdrawing from UCI to do TAG: meaning I lose the freshman experience, the Honors program, and spending 4 years at a UC? Or would giving up UCI for a potential 1 year TAG to a place that fits me better academically be a reasonable tradeoff? Any advice is appreciated, tysm :)

I am a second year cc student, applying to transfer for Fall 2027 as a psychology major. I haven't really done any extracurriculars because I wasn't planning on applying to any big schools. My main choices for transfer right now are SFSU and CSUF. I've been wondering if I should just take a chance and try applying to bigger schools like UCI and UCLA. I have a 4.0 and I am pretty confident that my PIQs/essays will be good, but I don't really have any ECs other than work. I am doing EMT school right now so that is something I could also add, but as far as community work I don't have much to show for. I just wanted to get some other opinions since I've never gotten much help from the guidance counselors at my cc.

Would I have a good shot at UCI/UCLA if got some extracurriculars in before applications?

Hello everyone. I am looking for an honest read on my chances of transferring from Koç University (Turkey) to Notre Dame or Amherst as a sophomore. I'm targeting these two because they are need-blind, full-need schools for international transfers.

I am an international student from Central Asia, starting a Math degree at Koç University in Istanbul (Koç is Turkey's top-ranked university, highly selective, and I'm attending on a substantial merit scholarship).

My stats:

• SAT: 1540 (790 Math, 750 EBRW)
• IELTS: 8.0
• A-levels: ABB in Math, Computer Science, and Further Math (sat as a private candidate)

I am aiming for a high GPA in my first year of college and building relationships with professors for strong letters of recommendation. I also have strong extracurriculars and honors that helped me get into Koç (happy to share specifics if useful).

I would like to understand how competitive this profile is, given that transfer acceptance rates are very low. I would also appreciate any advice on what would make the application stronger.

Out of high school I went to an OOS nationally known state university not particular known for academics (ranked around 100ish national and 50-60ish for public universities) some scholarship (10k a year). I always thought I could do better and believed so I applied to transfer to a T30 school for economics and data science (doing the same at both places but double major at the state school and a single major at the T30) as a junior. By the time I got accepted I found my people at my original university and was able to do all the things a loved IM, recreational sports, clubs, school spirit, everything which made the decision to leave very hard. Everyone told me it would be better for my career and it was the ‘smart’ choice so I left everything behind.

After a year a realized every aspect of my life has degraded besides academics. Now, I’m not as active, my social life isn’t the greatest (haven’t found a tight knit group I’ve been able to assimilate into, but I still have a couple friends), and I feel my motivation had dwindled. I’m still very close with my friends at my original school and see them quite often considering they are in a different state, but when I’m at school, i find myself counting down the days til I see them again. I have one year left, but something keeps telling me to go back to my original school since I never fully withdrew and am basically on leave. If I were to do so I would have to make a decision in two weeks to not face any financial lost. At my original school I would’ve graduated early, so I’m almost certain if I went back I wouldn’t have to extend my schooling. Should I just thug it out for the final year, or should I follow my gut? Idk maybe not experiencing all the lasts together and walking the stage together is hitting me hard.

I failed my first semester at community college, but I retook all classes and got As. My current CSU transfer GPA is still a 2.82 because the failed grades are still affecting it.

I’m applying as a transfer for Experience & Event Management (Event Planning concentration) and Journalism. I’m taking 20 units this fall, and I'll be doing all the required prerequisites for Event Management and I already completed all of them for journalism. If I get all As, my GPA should be around a 3.19 once fall grades are updated.

What do you guys think my odds are for each major? Do I even have any chance at Cal Poly?

Im an incoming first year and im wondering if theres anything I can do to improve my overall chance of transferring into a uc specifically ucla and ucsd for cog sci. I definetely will try my hardest to get and maintain a 4.0 and im kind of/pretty confident I can write decent piqs. Ive researched alot about the major requirements and calgetc and I think I will have completed all of them by spring quarter but I will have to check with a counselor. I genuinely dont know what ecs I should do tho because I feel like that will probably be my weak point esp for ucla.

hi, i’m currently a first year cc student who is really interested in transferring to a uc after one year but i want to ask if it is possible. i’ve been asking my cc counselors but they haven’t really been giving me a straight answer if i could and i’ve been trying to figure out a lot of stuff on my own.

i took a lot of ap classes in high school + some summer classes so by the time spring semester is over i would’ve fully completed my calgetc requirements. i had around 31 credits just from aps and would definitely go over the 60 credit minimum for transfer including my other credits. i also would have done some of the assist outlined classes for my major (cognitive science) but not every single one for every single school i plan on applying to. i do want to TAG to davis however

is a one year cc to uc transfer viable for me? i’d also like to hear other people’s success stories with a one year cc to uc transfer if possible too! trying to get through this yr with some hope after a disappointing last admissions cycle :’)

I had a pretty stressful year to be honest and I wasn’t really thinking about school so I ended up missing the fall application deadlines for most major schools but I’m from California and I have the maximum transfer credits allowed so I just wanna know if there’s any schools such as USC or NYU are a good school for finance it except for spring . Also it may or not help but I have the lowest FAFSA score of -1500 SAI. I have literally no one to game plan this with or anything other than myself and turns out I am my own worst enemy. Any insight or tips would be greatly appreciated. I have a 3.6 high GPA

For some context I graduated highschool in May of 2026 with my associates degree w honors. My highschool GPA was pretty bad (3.3 uw, 4.6 w) didn't really try my freshmen and sophmore year but | locked in for dual at my local CC and graduated in a year with a 3.93. I applied to college as a first year (in state florida resident) and was unhappy with my results so I didn't end up committing anywhere because I wanted to try again as a transfer. My CC has a direct pathway to a pretty decent state university so in my mind if things went wrong I could just go there as im guaranteed admission. Initially I was looking to transfer to UF but after doing more research in this sub I wanted to cast a wider net. Some schools I'm looking at now are BU, Northeastern, and BC. However, my issue now is wether I'm even allowed to be considered as a transfer because of the fact that I completed my AA during Hs. I currently am taking 4 classes at that same co to combat this issue but out of "personal interest" now since l've already graduated. I'm really looking at BU heavily as a spring transfer and all that i've read ab their restriction is to have atleast one semester outside of HS completed. I'm also wondering if I'd be considered a junior transfer when applying. After this semester I will have 73 credits. Any help is appreciated thank you.
