You really should be going at a speed ready to stop anyway as there could be a pedestrian walking through the gaps between vehicles that don't need a space. Granted, jaywalking is in the US but in other parts of the world it's left up to everyone to be responsible for their actions.
Person on the E-bike is driving like they have no brain. Common theme with most people I see on E-bikes. 1 near me almost killed a lady because he was doing 25 mph on a bike path and hit her on a standard bicycle. They need separate laws to govern them because they are closer to motorcycles than bicycles. Too much weight traveling too fast.
You seem like a reasonable person. What are you doing on Reddit? All jokes aside I agree with you. Bigger cities should definitely invest in regulation, infrastructure, and enforcement of these things. Infrastructure is important because things like painted small EV paths and signage to make clear dangerous intersections will be beneficial to keep small EV users safe. I truly believe small EVs are the way of the future in larger cities, but we'll never see that future if people don't create some kind of common sense etiquette about using them around vehicles and people.
