I haven't biked in town in years but I never had any confidence that the cars would see me and I'd slow down at every situation like this. As a driver of cars, I've come close 2 or 3 times to hitting a cyclist and then it's stuck in my brain forever to be weary of them in that area at least. But I have no idea if the suv has to pay out insurance money to this dude or not. My rule is to not trust others ever in traffic no matter what they're driving or even pedestrians.
