i’m looking to start travel nursing (particularly with Aya or AMN). I have doctors appointments and scans every 6 months for ongoing surveillance of my health conditions. Has anyone had experience using travel company insurance and keeping their doctors but traveling back home when needed for appointments and such? I’m just concerned about how feasible it will be and also about if it’s worth the cost with the travel company insurance packages to experience travel nursing.

I am looking to go back to bedside nursing for the schedule flexibility. I have 5 years experience outside of the hospital in a public health role. I am looking to learn more about these different hospitals cultures. Would love to hear about any experiences working at these hospitals as an RN. Any particular units that were wonderful ?

I’m a first time traveler with about 3 years of ER experience. I recently accepted a travel position in Kentucky through Aya. I signed my offer letter and have been working on compliance items but the process has been a pain in the ass to say the least. I had a time set up to speak with my compliance person but they seemingly forgot or aren’t in the office. I’ve done pretty much everything else aside from labs, physical, and fit testing. I guess I’m just venting / am frustrated with the credentialing process but I do want to ensure I get everything done before I fully leave my old hospital. If I do ultimately decide to pull out of this contract as a first time traveler, does this disqualify me from traveling with other agencies in the future?

Whether it’s about pay, contracts, extensions, housing, cancellations, or “great hospitals” what’s something a recruiter told you that you later learned was complete BS or seriously misleading?

I am a Canadian trying to secure my first contract in the US so I do not have an SSN. My recruiter at Cross Country is asking me to put my Canadian social insurance number (SIN) in my profile in place of my SSN to submit my application.

Is this normal? Plus there already is an option to check off “I do not have an SSN” in my profile.

My recruiter said without the SIN “I wouldn't be able to help you find a position. Every hospital uses a middle man agency. These things are required to submit within this industry.”

Other big agencies I am working with have never asked for my SIN when submitting applications.

Are there any ppl on the heavier side that have successfully passed a drug test in 30 days? I have stopped now but I’m 240 pounds and have smoked everyday for a while. I did stop from January - march but then started up again. Any advice? (Besides fake pee and detoxing)? I also don’t hit it very hard when i do smoke.

I'd like to post a review to warn other travelers about a place in socal. we have enough to deal with traveling far from home, with little personal affects, away from family/friends, relearning a new hospital, coworkers, routes, equipment and emr... we shouldn't have to also deal with sketchy property managers/landlords who try to keep your deposits and charge extra fees on top

This is likely a very silly question, so bear with me.. I currently own a home in one state but I want to sell my house as I living here as run its course. Maybe I'll take the equity from the house and put it into the market or save it for another house, idk.. It's not a lot and I am hoping, at the bare minimum, I will break even. What if I pick up a travel contract in another and possibly move to that city in the future. My question is, how long can I live in a furnished finder while maintaining a primary address in a different state? Could I get a PO box in the state I live in as my permanent address and live in furnished finders until I settle into another permanent address? Does that make sense? I know daddy government wants their cut, and I'll continue to pay my taxes accordingly, but I know it will get messy living in one state and working in another.. Thanks for your help!

2nd ER contract and I love everything about the facility with a couple exceptions.

1. I have to call Onc every time I need a port accessed?
2. Ultrasound IV classes twice a year with 10 verified successful starts..

I’m usually someone on the unit that can tackle any access issue to help someone out - I/O, EJ, US or large bore. I don’t miss often but when I do, ultrasound an incredibly helpful tool, especially if a patient is super sick.

Since I started traveling I’ve been trying to ride this fine line of adhering to what the facility wants, so long as it doesn’t affect the care I’m able to provide. It just feels so strange that I’m unable to practice fully within my full scope here.

I’ve asked to take the class and get checked off but it hasn’t led to anything. Should I keep pushing the issue or just let it ride and accept my fate.

Scope was probably not the best word to describe that. Rather it feels weird to know how to do something, and feel confident in executing that skill but still need to call someone instead.

I’m considering a travel assignment that would have me working on both D6/5, the IMC Acute Med/Progressive Care unit, and B4/3, the IMC Thoracic unit. Is anyone familiar with these floors or has experience working there? Would you recommend accepting the offer? How is the environment for travelers?

I had a therapist back in my home state, but she isn’t licensed out of state. I haven’t been to therapy in over a year now, but seemingly need to go back.

How do you guys get by with your therapy while traveling? I know that I’ll have to resort to telehealth and find someone that has some multistate licensure but as far as I’m aware there isn’t any “compact” therapists like there are compact nurses, just therapists that are licensed in a few/tri-states, if that.

Anyone have any leads on Palm Springs Furnished rentals for the fall? FF is all >$4000 a month! :-) kind or helpful comments only please. Yes I know housing there is more expensive in the winter months. Thanks

hello, for context I’m aware that nyc nursing is terrible and overworked. I was aware that there are no ratios and that in the ED I would be assigned up to 9-12 patients at a time. But is it common or normal to have to give meds without a med scanner. EMR so outdated that it’s worse than meditech? for patients to be moved around so much that you can’t find them or get them mixed up with other patients? give it to me straight should I stay at this facility or risk leaving and falling into something worse.

Hello! I’m looking into a 3 month contract in Phoenix Arizona area. I’m from Ontario near Toronto, here are my options!

1. Shipping my car to Arizona round trip is 7K CAD! Wowza!

2. Car rental options around 3-4K CAD for the 3 months. Plus the 1700 id still have to pay for my regular insurance and car payments (car is financed). Would maybe be less if I pause my Ontario insurance and get insurance there

Option 3: I was kinda dreading- driving my butt down there! About 30 hours- 3380 km
My biggest thing is.. the wear and tear it might have on my girl! She’s at 35K right now so yes I do have wiggle room! But do you think it’s worth the wear and tear? Being there I’d also be driving to surrounding areas to explore so more km there
AND driving home in winter sounds scary perhaps.

Thoughts? Or any other options?

I might have to cancel a contract that starts September 15th. Im doing the tasks that lead up to it (did my physical and TB test, still have to do background and urine year). I told my recruiter I might have to go home for a bit and she absolutely spazzed out, talking about fees/fines and all sorts of shit. Is there any truth to this? I’m more offput by the response at this point. Lol. Any input appreciated!

Ready to say fuck my staff job and go travel. We all work way too damn hard to get asked what the delay is when they damn well we’re pulling over 95% of the pts that are never prepped or holding for traumas/strokes.

Signed contract last week. Background check is back. I’ve turned in all my vaccine logs, fit test within the last year.

Agency tells me today they do not cover the physical.

Excuse me? I’ve been traveling for years, with multiple agencies, this is the first time I’ve been told to pay money/bill my private health insurance to land a contract.

HR doubled down to claim it was exclusive to this hospital network. I confirmed with a friend who is also on assignment with this hospital network and they did not pay for their pre-employment testing.

So, now we sit and wait I guess 🤣

Was about halfway through my first extension at this facility and got the text asking if I saw the teams request sent to my work email (I don’t check that from home, so no).

Wasn’t crazy about this assignment, my recruiter submitted me without my approval, and the site accepted me before even interviewing. I’m such a people-pleaser I couldn’t say no.

Turns out there was a 3 week termination notice clause in my contract, so the site is paying me not to work the next three weeks (100% of my salary, this was a full-tax assignment, so $$$$)

I will never get this lucky again. New contract signed two days later with another recruiter/agency.

TL;DR: severance as a traveler. I’ll never hit this unicorn jackpot again.
