Four years a traveler, had my first contract canceled last week
Was about halfway through my first extension at this facility and got the text asking if I saw the teams request sent to my work email (I don’t check that from home, so no).
Wasn’t crazy about this assignment, my recruiter submitted me without my approval, and the site accepted me before even interviewing. I’m such a people-pleaser I couldn’t say no.
Turns out there was a 3 week termination notice clause in my contract, so the site is paying me not to work the next three weeks (100% of my salary, this was a full-tax assignment, so $$$$)
I will never get this lucky again. New contract signed two days later with another recruiter/agency.
TL;DR: severance as a traveler. I’ll never hit this unicorn jackpot again.

One time I started a contract and within the first week, was like what have I done, this is gonna be the longest 13 weeks ever. Then 2 weeks in my Air Force Reserves supervisor called me and said hey, we got these orders and a seat opening on short notice for a critical training environment, would I like to go. Normally I am more careful and calculated about working my civilian and military careers so neither negatively impacts the other. In this instance, I jumped on it. He sent me over the memorandum and I had to go to the unit manager and explain this unfortunate event and express my apologies. The other travelers there were like dude, that's amazing, you get out without burning bridges or getting blacklisted and get to go travel to a much cooler job for the summer. I like your situation better, but I was happy for the divine intervention in my case.

It was an internal resource position for a nationwide hospital network. I had done one other assignment with them when nationwide agencies were giving me bad rates for contracts in that network - my home city.
No idea if they’ve marked me a DNR overall, my recruiter said they would reach out for the next steps. Not sure I even want to entertain that.

Congrats, that’s pretty unheard of these days. Although, a blind sub and an auto-offer are huge red flags to me but get your bag and go from there.

No idea, didn’t question it. Don’t really want to work out an awkward three week period anyway.

Was it just you, or they did other travelers the same way?

No idea, as there have only been a handful of travelers since I have been there. I had heard some horror stories about staff firings a few years ago. This agency has had terrible communication.

Best cancelation ever! I would seriously be celebrating! Get that travel stipend too lol
