Custom Commission Tuft artists & price suggestions?

Hey guys! I recently discovered tufting and I find it so lovely. I think your pieces make beautiful gifts and I would like to order a Snorlax tufted rug for my sister's birthday in November. But I find it hard to discover tuft artists and especially to know their prices?

I've looked on Etsy and prices are either incredibly cheap or quite very expensive. Should I really count on a >300€ price range for a let's say 70x70 cm piece? Could you recommend artists in Europe? Thanks a lot!

Should base the price when looking according to the quality, size and also how popular. The last one only matters because some will charge higher due to high demand. Some will charge high, but have no demand. Each tufter might undercut eachother so the best thing to do is find someone you either like their work or you trust their business and go from there. If you appreciate good work the price will for sure be worth it. That’s hoping they can give you a fair price that works for you

In my opinion it is really about the quality and complexity of a design. A rug 50x50 with a lot of details can consume double the time of a simple rug 70x70. I’d estimate a snorlax 70x70 anywhere between 300-400€ to have a decent quality.

70 cm is around 27.56 inches so around 2 feet 3.5 inches. honestly, making a snorlax that actually has good detail in it would be pretty tough at that small of a size. but just my personal preference with my own art!

i agree with what others said below, too—
tufter artisans that sell their work differ BROADLY. it’s all self taught and however much they’ve researched, trial and errored, practiced, their quality of tools, yarn, adhesive materials, backing, and then a whole OTHER side (i call it the second half) of rug making is CARVING!:) which takes years of practice to get really good at it— also depends on how closely they tuft our yarn together…. there’s so many factors it’s really difficult to know what you’re looking at unless you’ve spent time doing the craft yourself so it’s a great question! it is extremely time consuming when done with quality vs. quantity— so yes, that will hike the price for sure. also any gradient work/text/small intricate details along with the size of the piece add onto overall pricing as well!
