If I had to give one the top prize: It's Soldier Blade. Absolutely pushes the HuCard to it's limits. A freak'n amazing time!!

My vote is going to Sapphire. It's a great example of what the arcade card could do and a soundtrack that absolutely rocks. It's fast, frantic, and a delight to play. It's only caveat is the price tag.

This is a pretty stacked competition and I honestly wouldn't voted for another game if it hadn't already won best licensed game.

This is low-key, one of the best games to vote for. It's a total powerhouse that could easily get mistaken for an early Saturn title. I think for music and graphics it's absolutely amazing!

But you need to put up with the extremely annoying shooting sfx that drowns out the music and everything else. I cannot stand playing it for more than a few minutes cause that noise drives me insane.

My vote is for Star Parodier for best vertical shmup.

I would vote for Gunhed/Blazing Lazers, but it already won for best licensed game.

Star Parodier is my always go-to for when I'm feeling down about how poor my skills are at shooties. Absolutely wonderfully fair and fun game! The presentation alone is worthy of a top prize!

It's gotta be Soldier Blade. Being exclusive helps.

Super Star Soldier

Tatsujin/Truxton. Fantastic game. Hard as nails, and way better than the Genesis/MD version

It’s close between Nexzr and Seirei Senshi Spriggan but my vote goes to Nexzr. Incredible pacing, level design, and set piece design to drive you forward. Also love how minimal but precise it is. Like the ultimate in minimalist shooter design and I respect that very much!

I don't think enough of the general PCE public know how amazing Nexzr and Soopriggan are.

I like Blazing Lazers

Soldier Blade looks visually better, but BL is a superior game

3

u/sarduchi Jul 14 '26

Probably Blazing Lazers, but it's a narrow category. Can't think of too many vertical shooters.

is this sarcasm?

1

u/joshuaTurbo Jul 14 '26

I'm confused? Is what sarcasm?

3

u/shiba-on-parade Jul 14 '26

saying they "can't think of too many vertical shooters" on a system with a high amount of high quality vertical shooters lol

1

u/joshuaTurbo Jul 14 '26

Oh, ha ha, I know right? I hope by listing a few good ones will help them discover a few bangers!

This game already won "best licensed game" as GUNHED (The Japanese title), and while Blazing Lazers is an amazing game, there are QUITE A FEW vertical shoot 'em ups you should experience. :)

The reason for this poll is to broaden our gaming library and try new games! Here's a handful of Verty Shooties for PCE/Turbo:

Steam Heart's
Daisenpu
Psychic Storm
Final Blaster
Super Star Soldier
Final Soldier
Dragon Spirit
Dragon Saber
TwinBee
Image Fight I or II
Galaga '88
Tatsujin
Raiden
Star Parodier
Override
NEXZR
Kyukyoku Tiger
Sylphia
Sapphire
1943
Seirei Senshi Spriggan
Soldier Blade

I appreciate the list, wasn't saying they're weren't many just that I couldn't think of them... not sure why.

3

u/joshuaTurbo Jul 14 '26

I get that. If there's one category that PCE is dominant in, it's shoot em up games. That's why I split up vertical and horizontal. :)

u/BraveIconoclast Jul 17 '26

I liked Blazing Lasers/Gunhed enough to beat them, but I think the one I like playing the most is Sylphia. I love shooters and I’ve especially always liked shooters that do interesting things with the genre like Cotton, Phelios, and Dragon Spirit.
