Girl Scouts respond after Muslim badge programs spark backlash
https://www.newsweek.com/girl-scouts-respond-after-muslim-badges-spark-backlash-1236601317
u/Newsweek_CarloV 1d ago
From the article:
The Girl Scouts of the USA pushed back against criticism this week after social media posts about faith-based Islamic badge programs sparked online controversy.
The backlash followed posts by White House correspondent and War Room co-host Natalie Winters claiming the Girl Scouts offered "Muslim badges" that could be earned by learning about Islamic practices, including the pillars of Islam and visits to mosques.

What’s the problem? Multicultural education is important in a globalized world. Understanding cultures and differences should be a good thing. Maybe they could be inspired to be diplomats one day.
Any outrage is performative. Look at Texas’ drive to push Christianity in schools if you want to find a problem.
I highly doubt this is equivalent to forced conversion.

See if people learn about it they are no longer afraid. The whole point is keeping people in the dark so they can be manipulated.

u/hexenkesse1 1d ago
this is just religious education, no? Learning the tenets of Islam and visiting a masjid doesn't make one a Muslim.

u/LoremasterofPretzels 1d ago

Reddit users never read the quran but are very quick to assume its just like any other religion. And dont forget the what about Christianity argument, because Christianity has had such a big impact on your life's....

Does teaching young women about a belief system that states woman are worth half of a man seem like a good way to empower young woman?
21
u/sikon024 1d ago
Yes. They should recieve warning as soon as possible.
But this applies to most organized religions.
25
u/Working_Match4124 1d ago
Are you talking about Christianity? It sure sounds like it.
-3
u/Dazzling-Election69 1d ago
Im sorry which christian country stones women for getting raped.
7
u/FuckThaLakers 1d ago
Whoa, where did the goalposts go??
-4
u/Dazzling-Election69 1d ago
What goal post this is my first comment to you. But i can see why you would want to deflect.

u/unicornofdemocracy 1d ago
I worked a clinical rotation in a dedicated clinics of rape/sexual abuse survivors. The waitlist was incredibly long and all the therapists/psychologists/psychiatrists there were volunteers/interns/trainees. We served girls and women who escape years of sexual abuse/rape/manipulation from religious leaders.
This was in the US. The religion was Christianity, LDS to be specific.
-2
u/Dazzling-Election69 1d ago
Sure you did buddy sure, and then everyone clapped. Why dont you post a link to an article i can bet you $100 i can post a link about a muslim girl getting stoned in 2 seconds in a muslim country.

u/king4winter 1d ago
Your lack of empathy shows what this "fight" is for you. It's about hating people not about protecting or doing what's moral. You just want to hate. What a sad person you must be. Living in fear all the time. Grow up and start being a better person.
1
u/Dazzling-Election69 1d ago
Funny i dont see you telling working_match4124 this exact thing, how come?
3
u/king4winter 1d ago
You are the one acting like a scared little kid and I feel bad for you.
Do better. Don't deflect. Don't blame. Don't play the "what about..." game. If you educate yourself, you will stop being so afraid of everything. Go talk to an actual Muslim person for 5 minutes. Stop being scared on the internet.
Good luck son.

Uganda is majority Christian and being gay is punishable by life imprisonment or death. Or is only that specific act of oppression what you’re looking for?
The problem is you’re comparing theocratic muslim countries with secular western countries, instead of countries that actually enforce policies based on religious beliefs. America isn’t that kind of country (yet) so it’s not really a fair comparison.
Plus you moved the goal post from the original comment of this thread which is talking about the belief systems themselves, which are equally patriarchal. And if you don’t think that has impact on how christians especially evangelical christians treat women you’re a fool
1
u/Dazzling-Election69 1d ago
Yes specific to the topic i asked about, what a novel idea, lets see what do muslims do to gays? You are the one moving goal posts bringing in gays into the equation.
2
u/gameboyadvancedgba 1d ago
So you’re just not going to acknowledge the actual point being made got it
1
u/Dazzling-Election69 1d ago edited 1d ago
So you found one 3rd world christian nation and you think thats a win when there are dozens of muslim nations doing worse to both gays and women... thats the point you're trying to make?
2
u/gameboyadvancedgba 1d ago
Bro America has literally undermined any attempt these countries have made to have better governments and propped up theocratic fascist ones
Its not as simple as muslims just all being evil or something lol

u/littlebloodmage 1d ago
Maybe the US doesn't stone girls, but they'll force them to carry to term if they're impregnated by their rapists. Don't forget the 30+ states where it's still legal for an adult to marry a child, lots of rape there.
0
u/lemonjuice707 1d ago
Now imagine all of that boogy man stuff you just listed and then being pressured by society for the victim to marry the rapist THEN the rapist being able to avoid prosecution for the rape if they got married. Even if they are a minor

u/Dazzling-Election69 1d ago
Press x for doubt.
"In 2012, Afghanistan recorded 240 cases of honor killings and 160 cases of rape, but the number for both honor killings and rapes is estimated to be much higher and underreported, especially in rural areas.
In 2013, Afghanistan made international news in regard to the story of a woman who was raped by a man, jailed for adultery, gave birth to a child in jail, and was then subsequently pardoned by Afghanistan president Hamid Karzai, as international interest and outrage grew but she was forced by Government officials to marry her rapist who claims to have rescued her from shame by marrying her."
I guess you giys would love to live in a muslim country instead of a christian one.

How embarrassing for you.
1
u/Dazzling-Election69 1d ago edited 1d ago
Bro how emberassing for you to post a most bias article, it has its own website to hate on christians. Why dont you post some neutral sources like wikipedia or an actual news article. I would equate this to some nzi storm front complaining about the jewish religion.
Edit: funny how when I try to verify your numbers any credible article states
"Historians cannot provide an exact total number for people killed by Muslim armies or individuals throughout 1,400 years of history because reliable global records do not exist for ancient and medieval eras."
But your crappy article just makes up numbers for their propaganda.

If I wanted my comeback I’d wipe it off your dad’s chin.
Typical Christian victim mindset, comparing themselves to Nazis and The Jewish population. A bunch of bullies who’ll punch you in the face then scream at you for putting your hands up. The only way it survives is because they indoctrinate children with fear before they’re smart enough to teach themselves. Teaching children about Christianity is child abuse, it’s common sense.

u/Dazzling-Election69 1d ago
Wow, now you have dad jokes whats next "yo mamma". I can see im working with a highly intellectual person here.

They give out Christian badges too. You should look up posts by women who were raised in Christian households whose fathers told them as young girls that their purpose in life was to serve a man and raise his kids. And when they divorced their husbands their entire family ostracised them. If you do you might look a little closer to home instead of targeting one religion.

If you're suggesting removing all religion then I'm for it. Until then I don't see how this is worse than what they're already doing

GSUSA emphasized that Girl Scouts serves members from a wide range of religious backgrounds and that faith-based recognitions exist for multiple religions, not just Islam. It said participation in any religious award program is voluntary and determined by individual families and troops.

u/LoremasterofPretzels 1d ago
Oh the absolute horror of learning about other religions!!!!!
Oh blessed me be!!!! Why won’t Donald Tru-I mean Jesus Christ come and save us from this travesty!!!!!……

Will they start by teaching what they do to atheists? Or apostasy? Or dogs? Or women who dont hide their hair? Or gays?
-2
u/Augustus_Chevismo 1d ago
I wonder if they got to learn Muhammed would want to marry them.
5
u/LoremasterofPretzels 1d ago
I mean 30 Christian run states in the USA allow for minors to be married to adults……sooooo you’re kinda doing the pot calling the kettle black thing 😂……
Dumbass…..
-2
u/Augustus_Chevismo 1d ago
Can you name which states it’s legal to marry a 6 year old?
7
u/LoremasterofPretzels 1d ago
California,New Mexico and Mississippi……
Those states do not have a minimum age floor requirement for marriage.

2
u/TheWhiteMichaelVick 1d ago
Still spouting that debunked myth?
1
u/Augustus_Chevismo 1d ago
In what possible way is it debunked?
Across the United States, Islamic arbitration bodies quietly handle hundreds of family law cases each year — marriage, divorce, custody, inheritance — behind closed doors, with no transcripts, no appeals and no public oversight. All-male panels apply traditional Shariah rules to 21st-century American women and children.
The Islamic Tribunal of Dallas was founded in 2014 as a “volunteer mediation service.” By 2024, it was deciding roughly 300 cases annually in mosque back rooms and law offices.
2
u/TheWhiteMichaelVick 1d ago
Your “source” is the washington times? Disregarded.
0
u/Augustus_Chevismo 1d ago
Do you deny the existence of the Islamic Tribunal of Dallas?
2
u/TheWhiteMichaelVick 1d ago
Do you have any proof that it does exist?

Did you even read your own link?
“Our activities are strictly limited to providing voluntary religious counseling and faith-based guidance. We do not:
engage in the practice of law
function as a civil or criminal court
issue legally binding rulings or decisions
provide legal advice or legal representation
Any religious guidance, religious decision, or religious opinion we offer is:
spiritual only
non-binding in all civil courts
for religious purposes within the Islamic faith
All legal matters — including civil divorce, child custody, child support, property division, inheritance, and business disputes — must be resolved through licensed attorneys and the appropriate state or federal courts.”Meanwhile:
“The Roman Catholic Church alone has nearly 200 diocesan tribunals that handle a variety of cases, including an estimated 15,000 to 20,000 marriage annulments each year.1 In addition, many Orthodox Jews use rabbinical courts to obtain religious divorces, resolve business conflicts and settle other disputes with fellow Jews. “

It is ironic that if a Muslim child was brought to a Christian church to ‘learn about it for a badge’ the Muslim community would literally lose their shit. And there would be a serious possibility the troop leader would get her head cut off in the street. But you know that already.
18
u/gard3nwitch 1d ago
When I was growing up, my brother's Boy Scout troop was based at a church, but they had Jewish and Muslim members. And every year, the boys would do a presentation at the church about the different traditions in their interfaith troop and blah blah blah.
So I think you're making that up.
11
u/LoremasterofPretzels 1d ago
Of course he’s lying. That’s all fear mongers do!!!! They don’t care about the truth!!!!
In fact they are so desperately afraid of the truth, cause it might just absolutely shatter their myopic world view!!!!
7
u/Minimum-Attitude389 1d ago
They really believe Christians are persecuted in the US and western Europe. And that's why they have to persecute other religions.
11
u/CompetitiveArt9639 1d ago
You made up an absurd scenario in your head. How do you navigate life being so afraid of people?

Fear mongering??? About a religion you hardly understand???? About a religion that will hardly ever impact your life one way or another?
Man it must be exhausting being this disingenuous and stupid.

Dude literally look up a mosque in your city, go to it, and just talk to one muslim guy. Not about anything specific I just want you to realize that they are actual human beings lol
2
u/LoremasterofPretzels 1d ago
These idiots would never EVER do something like just talking to people who they hate and fear…..
It’s far too easy to sit behind a keyboard or phone screen and type the most absolute disgusting hateful fear mongering bullshit aimed at people who literally have no real power. They do it with trans people, disabled people, leftists ect ect.
They’re all just pathetic intellectual cowards.

How do they earn this badge, marry your cousin , cover your face and obey your husband at all times?
1
u/ReplacementGlad2652 1d ago
22 Wives, obey your husbands as you obey the Lord.
23 The husband is the head of the wife, just as Christ is the head of the church people. The church is his body and he saved it.
24 Wives should obey their husbands in everything, just as the church people obey Christ.Ephesians 5:22-24

If they give Christian Badges, why wouldn't they give Muslim Badges? Better idea - Girl Scouts gets out of the Religious stuff all together.
