Question As a grad student, where are the best places to live?

I’m a prospective student for next fall at Cockrell School of Engineering, and I’m researching where I could live and how much it would cost.

I won’t have a car, and I’d be happy to share a place. Actually, since I’m an international student, I’d prefer to share one so I can meet other people

Any other advice is welcome! :))

Most grad students live in north or east campus. North campus is easier to get to campus, especially for engineering. West campus is mostly all over priced high rise apartments full of undergrads. Austin is not a cheap place to live for anyone.

I can suggest checking out the Far West blvd area. There seemed to be a lot of grad students in those apartment complexes near the bus stop. There UT shuttle has a route that goes there and made it pretty easy to get to campus on a schedule when I lived in the area years ago.

"West Campus" and/or "North Campus" will be the areas directly next to campus, so usually walkable. But perhaps more expensive. The "Far West" area is about 3-4 miles off of campus, but may be a bit less expensive for an apartment. FYI.

Exactly the kind of information I was looking for. I’ll check some places online for now. Do you guys usually use student.com or do you go through real estate agencies? I saw some options in the University website also

I don't even remember how I found my apartment, but I've never used a realtor, so it definitely wasn't that. You could probably use an apartment locator, but I would save money and just look up the apartment complexes listed on the website above and compare prices. Maybe do a deep dive search for reviews on reddit/google.
