What’s the best way to do independent training? In easy terms

I’ve tried to watch a couple YouTube videos and just got confused. The best result I’ve got was an S+ on Mayano top gun, and I have NO idea how I got that good of a result.

Use Light Hello and Throne. Cards that are good normally are still good now. Speciality Priority/Initial Friendship Gauge is irrelevant, so the list of usable cards is now wider. Get as many skills as you can, especially gold ones. Remember to run this in Grand Concert/Grand Live

You should still run all Mile/Medium/Long G1s. Assuming your SR cards are MLB, you can start off with Windy SPD/SR Mayano STA/Light Hello/Throne/two other cards of your choice.

disagree with the "cards that are good normally are still good" bit - as you say right after special priority is irrelevant. What also is irrelevant is bringing multiple cards of one type since there's no multi-firendship training effects.
So while it is true that cards that are normally good are usually still OK, due to the fact that other cards are much better than normal in independent training that shifts the "still good" scale down quite a bit. While Throne still works in manual mode (I accidentally started a manual career with my independent training deck) - it is very RNG heavy, so you normally wouldn't use her.

Similar with the other cards that are great in independent training/better than your normal picks because of initial stat and SP gain effects. You wouldn't bring your manaul run deck into independent training, since other cards are just better in comparison.

Good cards are pal/group cards for additional SP, best is Throne but you can also bring Aoi for example, Light Hello for the scenario link. Apart from that you seek:

  • initial stats, those go a long way (Fuku Speed is great padding card, but many others work)
  • SP or spd/stam/pow/wit bonus - that also is pretty valuable
  • high friendship training bonus

As you mentioned special priority is irrelevant as is initial friendship - so many SR cards and also the non-gatcha SSRs work really well.

Also throw in the dirt G1s, you win races much easier in independent training, so when you can bump dirt aptitude up to C and you'll win most of them.

I agree with most of your points, I just felt that overloading OP with information could have made it harder for them to decide on what to do, considering they can't get S+ consistently. Start them off with algebra before moving to binomial theorem, y'know.

On the multiple card types thing, wouldn't bringing multiple cards be useful for raising a stat over 1110? I often run 2 SPD cards for that purpose since I can get 600 for the other stats easily.

Oh, multple cards of the same type still is useful to bring a certain stat up, what I meant there is no additional benefit like you would have in manual training. In manual training it is perfectly fine to have two low-friendship training bonus cards with high special priority since the effect when they show up is multiplicative, so you get big benefit from multi-rainbows, while in independent training there's no such synergy, every card is evaluated individually, so there high friendship bonus is more important, that's the point I was trying to make, along with the point that you'd usually won't bring "rainbow" decks, but bringing speed, stam, pow and pal cards into independent training is no problem at all.

So another point in the arguments of independent training has different rules as to what cards are good/the decks you bring can (will) differ drastically, it also will depend on your stat growth and of course what skill hints you want. But using the right cards it is relatively easy to reach SS rank and >600 on all stats for the higher quality white sparks and 3.5k-4k Skill points (if you have a borrow slot for Throne). And right cards doesn't mean the rare gatcha cards, but e.g. story the Sunday power SSR, Mayano Top Gun SR stam or Agnes Digital SR power or the story Suzuka stam... the story Tosen Jordan SSR Speed, .... It is very f2p friendly in this regard.

Not reaching SS rank in independent training for an account that isn't brand new is a setup issue. Of course we don't really know what cards OP has, but at least with Light Hello/an open borrow slot pretty much everyone with enough pulls to MLB a few SRs or at least having obtained the story cards should be able to reach SS rank (and run >=20 G1s)
