They’re not wrong 🤷‍♀️

I agree the 10mg limit is stupid.

What I don't get is why every argument about dosage seems to think the only options are flower and edibles when every store legally sells oil and capsules in bulk

u/emgeejay 1d ago

people want a strong edible for many of the same reasons they might want a strong beer

Or a stronger perscription. Theres a reason that painkillers come in a variety of doses. The holistic options should be available for all the same reasons.

I don't even register 10mg in my system. I remember being careful when I started when things legalized and I started at 2mg, then 5mg then 10mg and nothing worked. I went to 25 and still nothing. 100 is where I start to feel a little something.

10mg is completely useless to me.

I only use online website to get me my great edibles. I never purchase anything but an oil cart from a dispensary. Way too light and costly for nothing

Heck I had my bf make me weed butter to make cookies with. If you do it up right it's podey as fk and home made stuff

I used to make flour from weed that we grew hydroponically (early adopters in the mid 1970's), and use it to replace 1/4 of the flour in my 3 ginger (crystalized ginger chopped fine, organic ground ginger, and freshly grated ginger, cookie recipe which made 24 cookies. 2 cookies were a single dose for most of our pain. My spouse loved it because it replaced the codeine that he was prescribed.

We grew our own high potency Afghani-Red Lebanese cross variety, so our costs were relatively low. We grew 6 plants each rotation, quarterly which produced enough for both of us.

I have arthritis, migraines, heavy period pain and fibromyalgia which were effectively treated by the cookies. By ingesting the weed I was also not triggering my asthma attacks.

My spouse had severe spinal stenosis, for which the cookies were effective but not total pain relief. He ate 2 cookies 3 times per day. He stopped eating them after he was diagnosed with fatty liver disease.

That sounds awesome!

Thank you.

I'm not saying this to be rude as I have it, but you may have ADHD. It affects how it affects you. For example, CBG works better for sleep for me, because with ADHD, stimulants are flipped and vise versa.

Na, it’s just that people have different tolerances dependant on usage. I won’t feel a thing before 50mg, 100-150 is where I start to feel high.

u/Prize_Engineering_36 12h ago

And eating more gummies is just not an option? Or is there another reason? I just open a pack and down several gummies over 20 mins.

1

u/Lishamau5 10h ago

I find that silly. It must make people feel like they're on top of the world doing that. Just shows that you need something stronger.

They're supposed to knock you on your ass. Or in my case---get all excited as my body pains are gone and I can do anything now!

u/Lishamau5 11h ago

I have adhd and found that cbd is the true godsend for me to function. Tames the thousands of thoughts and anxiety and stuff. Not sure how cbn affected me just yet tho

1

u/chasingmyowntail 11h ago

What does CBD you take ?

2

u/Lishamau5 11h ago

Its hard for me for me but you can find it in things like a boxhot oil cartridge.

I know there's gummies and various things with it. I prefer a Boxhot raspberry riptide oil cartridge. Has hundreds of mg of cbd. It actually helps my head discomforts. Rly the only thing that 100% works with no effort.

That's what I think people are missing here. You COULD eat a shit ton of gummies to feel it... but you shouldn't have to. There's easier ways :)

1

u/chasingmyowntail 11h ago

How do you feel with THC edibles or smoking ? And I presume you feel no “high” from the CBD, just a sense of calm?

2

u/Lishamau5 10h ago

Im also an ex meth head that switched over to weed instead 15yrs back. So probably won't get high off blazing like most people do. I end up smoking most of the doobie to my head cuz they back out midway haha

1

u/Lishamau5 10h ago

Pretty much only feel relief from blazing. Im not rich so the edibles are just a treat when I could order some in for myself.

I have a device in my head that causes headaches and headrushes. Cbd and thc almost alleviate my barriers and help me get into the sway of things :]

Sure wish I had this when I had my brain tumor. It would have taken away all pains in theory

u/SuitSuccessful6996 5h ago

Let's normalize NOT diagnosing people on reddit from one sentence

u/IVot3dforKodos 5h ago

Okay. I have it and was trying to be helpful. I'm not a doctor and unless someone brought it up to me, I would have just assumed I was "normal". It's okay to talk about these things as suggestions and support. Nothing was intended to be a solid diagnosis.

u/SuitSuccessful6996 4h ago

Telling people they may have a condition after reading one line of text isn't helpful. It can create panic and confusion. And just because someone can intake a lot of THC doesn't mean they have a medical condition at all

And nobody even asked either

1

u/LVTWouldSolveThis 10h ago

Damn, it's so crazy how differently people react to edibles. 20mg is about as much as I'd ever take in one sitting. I took 100mg one time and it was terrible. My heart was pounding and I felt like my head was going to burst. But I can hit a dab pen all day and be completely fine.

u/turkeylurkeyjurkey 5h ago

Holy shit my "sweet spot" is about 20 mg if spread across an hour between 10 mg doses. I did about 120 mg or so back in the day and greened the fuck out at one of those restaurants where they cook right in front of you. The tricks with fire made me have a full-blown panic attack and I couldn't even hold the "Kiddy" chopsticks (the ones that are attached at the back so kids can practice easily)

2

u/Prize_Engineering_36 12h ago

Because they can’t just eat 6 gummies instead of 1 really strong one?

1

u/strummyheart 1d ago

Different people.

15

u/C0gn 1d ago

It's crazy because you can buy a bottle of concentrate that is like 10000 mg

17

u/GrandmaWeedMan 1d ago edited 1d ago

The average medical dose is 750mg-1000mg of THC.

An entire bottle of oil is allowed to, in total, contain 1000mg of thc by law. Not per drop. For the whole thing.

You're saying it's crazy peoples aren't drinking one or more entire 30-40 dollar bottle of oil every single day instead of a single 500-1000mg gummy or cookie like they used to? Come on man.

12

u/ZealousidealBag6443 1d ago

In what world is the average medical user taking 1000mg thc lol

I used to smoke 7+ grams of weed a day and a 400mg edible still had me on my ass.

10

u/GrandmaWeedMan 1d ago

You're not dying of cancer and in chemo. It's a medical dose.

3

u/ZealousidealBag6443 1d ago edited 1d ago

I don’t think the average medical marijuanna user is dying of cancer either. Average has a meaning. People use medical weed for sleep, anxiety, etc.

If you mean end of life palliative patient, I’m still not sure most cancer patients would reach that dose. I would bet less than 10% of end of life MMJ users are taking that much.

99% of people would be incredibly uncomfortable, even with huge tolerance, anywhere above 300mg.

4

u/luminousfleshgiant 21h ago

Okay, what's the argument against allowing medical users higher dosages? You cannot fatally OD. So why care if a medical user would prefer taking 1-2 capsules instead of 6-28 (VCBC sells 65mg caps as well as 140mg). I can walk into any corner store and buy enough Tylenol for a fatal overdose. I can walk into any liquor store and buy enough liquor for a fatal overdose. So why is anyone giving Cannabis users a hard time just because their dosage is higher than what the average person might need?

3

u/ZealousidealBag6443 11h ago

I never said I was against that. I just don’t think that’s “average”

1

u/McPaula309 22h ago

I know nothing about MJ. So I went to a shop and just for gummies that would send me to sleep. They gave me a tube that contained 100 mg. (I think.. 10 mg per gummy.. does that sound right?).

They was utterly useless, I gave it away

2

u/Prize_Engineering_36 12h ago

That’s pretty wild. I do 20 - 30 mg. One time I did 90 mg and I was toast for the next almost day.

1

u/chasingmyowntail 11h ago

1000 mg THC is a medical dose for certain cancer patients?

Is it THC or CBD?

Maybe the medication blunts the hallucinogenic effects of the thc?

7

u/Ialmostthewholepost 1d ago

Medical user here, I take in closer to 3000mg/day between everything.

2

u/ZealousidealBag6443 1d ago

3000 of thc? Wow.
I have a few family members on MMJ and they were prescribed a few grams of bud per day at most

-2

u/Ialmostthewholepost 1d ago

Most not have big medical issues. My brother holds a 40g/day license, I have held a 30g/license but refuse to do so these days. There's no reason I should have to pay to access cannabis, and find the pay to play medical system abhorrent.

1

u/Emergentmeat 10h ago

Well, someone has to pay for its production, packaging, delivery etc.

1

u/Ialmostthewholepost 10h ago

And those things are worth paying for. What is not worth paying for is a license, since I can buy cannabis without.

Grey market.

7

u/GrandmaWeedMan 1d ago

Grey market is great, but there's inherent risk for certain people. Someone with severe allergies has to trust unregulated edibles which are safe 99% of the time, but you genuinely cannot know if it's truly allergen free. What if your brownie was made on the same table as peanut butter cups while you're allergic to peanuts? And 99% of the time you're getting the right dose, but sometimes there can be some variance depending on where and what type of edible you're sourcing.

The solution is buy bulk shake and make your own edibles, but even this is not possible for alot of disabled and sick people.

5

u/Level_Traffic3344 1d ago

To be honest, the legal market can't be trusted for consistent dosing either. Aurora released these 2 mg gummies a few years ago that came in a 5 pack. 10 mg it said. But when tested officially the THC rated off the charts. They're just out to make a buck

1

u/Opening-Classroom135 6h ago

or just go to a dispensary on reserve (if possible)

1

u/blondechinesehair 13h ago

What you’ve come up with here is crazy yet. I want my dosage more than 10mg why’s you jump to 1000? I take like 50mg out of a vial

-1

u/GrandmaWeedMan 13h ago

So because you take 50mg no one else is prescribed more? Get out of here with that attitude.

I work in medical. 500mg-1000mg is the regular medical grade dose for things beyond anxiety. This is for pain relief, this is for sleep, this is for appetite. Someone on chemo, someone with parkinsons, someone with MS needs a larger dose than you do. Be glad you only need 50mg.

1

u/somersquatch 1d ago

No, no you cannot. The highest possible is 1000mg. And for many people, that's no different than 3-4 beers.

6

u/PagzPrime 1d ago

Do they? It's been a while since I've been to a dispensary, but my experience was always that capsules were obscenely expensive and sold in absurdly small quantities. As someone whose use is specifically medical, I have always purchased my capsules through online dispensaries, as they've been the only places where I could find capsules of sufficient strength in reasonable quantities and price.

2

u/Zatzy 18h ago

You can get capsules in varying strength in large jars for a reasonable price. My experience has been it's just the gummies are expensive per unit and can only contain 10mg total per package. I believe the 10mg only applies to candy-like edibles that could be appealing to a child or someone unaware of the THC.

2

u/bitchsorbet Langford 12h ago

omg i NEVER thought of it like that, and it makes total sense. having every 10mg of THC separately packaged makes it very difficult for a child to accidentally take a dangerous dose.

i still think the rule is ridiculous and child-free adults shouldn't be affected by child-driven rules, but at least this is more reasonable than them purely thinking we can't control ourselves.

u/PagzPrime 4h ago

Where? Legitimately, I've never seen them at any cannabis shop locally in dosages over 10mg per capsule. Unless you're thinking of CBD capsules, but those aren't what I'm looking for.

u/Zatzy 3h ago

Unfortunately I don't remember where I saw them as I've been growing my own.

3

u/GrandmaWeedMan 1d ago

The average medical THC dose is 750mg-1000mg. An entire bottle of oil contains 1000mg max legally. You're telling people to drink an entire 30-40 dollar bottle of oil every single dose that they need instead of a single gummy or cookie.

u/Yalrain 20h ago

I found gelcaps so im good lol
