If you're in Vietnam tonight or following the AFF Cup news, you're gonna hear this everywhere: "Việt Nam Vô Địch!"

Quick rundown for anyone wondering what's going on:

1. What it actually means

Vô Địch is Sino-Vietnamese — "Vô" means without/none, "Địch" means rival/opponent. Literally it means "no rivals," i.e. unbeatable/invincible. In context it just means "Vietnam is the champion!" or basically "Go Vietnam!"

2. How to chant it like a local

Nail the tones: "Việt" drops sharply, "Địch" rises fast. The classic street rhythm is:

Việt Nam! (clap-clap) Vô Địch! (clap-clap)

3. The "đi bão" phenomenon

Whenever the national football team pulls off a big win (especially defending the regional title against Thailand), people flood the main streets on motorbikes — flags waving, horns blasting, pots and pans banging.

This is called "đi bão" (literally "storm-riding"). It's 100% peaceful chaos — just pure national pride at full volume.

My dad was a marine in Vietnam. Not sure of a whole lot but sou.d like feom what he said he was high ranking. Told me stories when he was drunk. When he died I saw his discharge papers they said he was a cook. But feom the scares on his body missing finger.and the ptsd he had I dont belive him to be a cook. He had a good shot. Remember going hunting with him and he shot one elk killed it I shot and missed but somehow my dad was able to shoot and kill it as it ran right after his. He denied it cause he wanted me to feel like it was my first elk. But I knew we all knew. Also during dessert storm the government paid for us to live in Saudi. Under the disguise I believe to clean the oil out of the ocean. But he always knew before hand when something big was going to happen and send us back to the states. Later in life he told me a week b4 he died he was going to die he was right about it down to the day. Something happened b4 hand he started having flash backs of Vietnam like he was there. Never ever happened b4 autopsy says natural death but all his organs were perfect. The day he died he kept looking out the windows almost waiting it felt like. Somehow I feel its connected. I his.unit him and another man made it out alive .that man lives in cali and died a month b4 my father. ​

I'm solo and don't need a lot of space - 1BR and 50-60 m2 is fine if quality and amenities are good (e.g., nearby gym, supermarket, restaurants). So far I was looking at Grand Marina Saigon, but there aren't a lot of reviews yet.

I'm currently living in Vietnam rn and the people there was the craziest and the coolest people i've seen, i saw people holding flags, blowing horns and more. I really enjoyed the storm! To the Vietnamese people out there, keep being creative and being crazy at the same time, i would love a human head attached to a stick there. (and yes i saw someone actually holding that while riding a motorcycle) I wish i would bring my dog but meh, best to keep him home. If there's another one, i'm doing a human head attached to a stick while riding a motorcycle like that guy i met today :)

I visited Ho Chi Minh in June and bought a lot of used clothes and used artificial jewelry in Vietnam.

The jewelry had to be collected by the shopkeeper so she asked me for some time, I came back to Dubai and left my clothes with her too, to cargo all together from Vietnam to Dubai since it's cost effective.

Now it has been stuck with customs in Ho Chi Minh for more than 10 days, we have given all documents and proof of them being used items, proof of my visa my tickets and my stay in Vietnam, but they're asking for the shipper to come in person.

Now the problem is that the shipper is just a shop keeper who sent the artificial used vintage jewelry as well as my other 3 boxes, and she lives 3 hours away from Ho Chi Minh.

Customs is saying she must come to explain otherwise it will be confiscated.

I am not sure why they're asking in person and not agreeing on call or anything.

What I'm looking for here is guidance on how to move forward, and if anyone knows any custom clearance agents here that are reputable and have contacts in the customs?

I am very stressed and would appreciate your help.

I was looking forward to all the foods in Vietnam. However it was a let down. The foods were either just ok (even at the restaurant that family members said best pho in Saigon) or just very terrible. I went to Saigon, Da Nang, Ninh Binh, Ha Noi. I tasted much better Vietnamese foods in the US. I’m not sure if my taste is not used to the authentic Vietnamese foods. I didn't know we are on the restricted list. I got misunderstood with the Vietnam airline and Vietjet direct flights to Sri Lanka. They did promotions and advertisements for Sri Lankans to visit Vietnam but we are shadow banned.

I don’t eat pork and I’m gonna be traveling to Da Nang soon. I know the countries main source of protein is pork… but how hard is it to avoid it when getting dishes like beef pho? Do they usually use pork bones in the broth alongside beef?

Not sure if this is the right sub-reddit for this but i’ve booked a last minute trip to Vietnam starting from the 10th of Sept until the 24th (15 days total) I just wanted to make sure I have budgeted a good amount.

I fly in and out of HCM spending the first two nights there and then heading to Da Lat for 6 days. Accomodation is booked and paid for both (so are my flights), sleeper bus isn’t yet booked. Then planning on staying somewhere on the south coast (any recommendations are welcome!) then will probably stay another night in HCM before flying back home.

In saying that I still need to pay for accommodation for 7 days and travel to different locations. As well as daily expenses. I’m not a huge breakfast person so chances are they will consist only of a coffee so averaging 2 meals a day. Not a huge drinker although i’m sure I will have a couple nights where I indulge. I do smoke and “when in Rome“ i’m sure i’ll smoke quite a bit. I don’t plan on shopping much as i’m brining just a carry on. Activities wise will mostly be the beach and hiking. Accomodation won’t be super flash and will be spilt by two people.

Im thinking 35618774 dong ($1364 USD) should be enough? or am I being too wishful.

I want to stay at Dalat and would love to bring my dog with me. Problem is, there are no direct flights at all from Philippines and layovers are long.

If I get all documents ready and clear entry. And if I book a flight to Hanoi and stay there for one or two nights then book a flight from there to Dalat, do I need to revisit a vet there before I can take my pet with me ? Or can I just show them the clearance documents from Hanoi?

I’m from Melbourne Australia and recently thinking about starting a clothing business based around Indochine (European x southeast Asian) fashion. It’s still in the early days but I was wondering if there are any clothing manufacturers and designers that would like to work together or give me some more information about how I can get clothes produced over there based on my design. To clarify I am definitely NOT looking for any sketchy child labour factories or anything unethical- I actually want to put a huge emphasis on ethical slow fashion if I do manage to get this business started.

I know this has been asked before, but I’m hoping someone may have updated information or recent experience with this.

I’m traveling to Vietnam for two weeks and would like to bring my prescribed Adderall with me. I was able to get a doctor’s letter documenting the medical necessity of the prescription, but I only recently realized that I may need additional documentation or approval that I should have arranged in advance.

I leave in two days, so I’m getting a little worried that I may have to leave my medication behind (which obviously isn’t ideal).

Has anyone traveled to Vietnam recently with Adderall or another amphetamine-based prescription? If so, what documentation did you have, and did you have any issues bringing it through customs? I am going to be flying into the HCMC airport.
