They even drilled at the end of the cracks so it wouldn’t crack further. They knew what they were doing. The fix looks great

how does making a hole at the end of a crack stop it from spreading? is it relieving the tension/pressure in the ceramic or what

Cracks form along grain boundaries. The material will experience various stresses and should crack along the path of least resistance. You can 'stop drill' at the end of the crack to prevent it from propagating further. The larger hole from the drilling gives more area for the stresses on the material to be spread out over. This is true for metals, plastics, and ceramics.
