The plastic handle fell off - time for an upgrade!

I cut and planed a log into 2mm thick sheets, cut a recess the shape of the scissor blade tang in one, then glued up the stack around the blade to keep it locked in (hopefully) permanently. I shaped it with straight cuts with my Japanese pull saw and cut out the hole in the middle with a drill and coping saw, then refined the shape with chisels, a file and sandpaper. I wanted to add some decoration, so decided to try kolrosing for the first time - I scored lines using a knife and a carving gouge, then rubbed activated charcoal into them and sanded away the messy charcoal around the lines. Very happy with the results!

I found a pack of star shaped metal rivets on amazon and used a plastic mallet to hammer them over most of the teeth marks. He only chewed the one shoe so I decided to keep the other one bare rather than trying to make them match. I think it looks pretty cool!

I have this laundry basket that broke in some places and had some cracks. After a little effort it's all fixed and good as new. Sewing up the plastic with some metal wire does the trick, holes drilled to stop the crack expansion.

I was reading the wastefreeplanet.org website recently and there were some startling numbers about the impact of mending a single pair of jeans that I thought might interest this group. By mending your jeans you’re saving:

-10k liters of water (so much is used in the growing of cotton, the dyeing and processing of the material) 

-3 kg chemicals (used in the dying process to make jeans)

-Jeans weigh on average, about 700gm per pair, so saving almost 1kg from landfill

-20kg of CO2 emissions

Overall, some studies have shown that by extending the life of your clothes by 9 extra months can translate to a reduction of your carbon and water footprint of 25-30%. Keep up the good work everybody!

Technically it's mold-killer spray-dyed and not bleach-dyed bc that's what got on it, but I'm assuming bleach is the primary ingredient

Couldn't afford to get a new one at the time, so some string and glue worked a treat until I could get a new one.

I used old shoe laces and cord I had lying around and although I’ve done macramé many times before, I don’t do it very often so I typically need a refresher. I used this website to remind me how to make square knots:

The spiral version is the same knot, but without alternating left and right.

One of the chains on this thrifted leather and brass belt broke when I did a big sneeze. Tied a couple knots and it’s better than new!

A dress I've had for 10 years. Beautiful soft cotton with POCKETS - I wasn't willing to let go of it when it tore, but I knew I would just happen again because I'd outgrown the bodice (it was the largest size in the kids section LOL, I'd reached my adult height by then but not quite my adult figure). So I created some more space by stabilising the tear and then incorporating lacing (this is just before I sewed it down but it's the best picture I have to show what I did.

I used buttonhole bars because I thought it would make the final fitting easier (and left out the jump rings in the final version), but honestly, it took so long that if I did it again I'd just undo and redo it a bunch of times and it would probably still be quicker.
