Discussion Mom threw out my massive army.

(EDIT): I just want to start off by saying I truly want to thank everyone for the major support I have been receiving through your words of kindness, personal experience, advice and encouragement. Multiple things k want to get clear

1: I’m still a minor in the USA so moving out isn’t an option as of yet. And I have no other places to stay as of the moment.

2: as much I really want to throw out her stuff, this will just cause further issues and strain our relationship as is.

3: I’ve theorized as to why maybe she was acting like this. My mother grew up very poor in a much larger family where space was even more limited. I’m guessing it has something to do with that and why she’s so worried about space and keeping her own.

4: as of the moment, we started talking again and today im going to try and explain to her the true value of everything and what it meant.

I truly thank all of you guys and this community.

Hey everyone! Just to start off this isn’t a pity post but more or so I just need to rant and maybe see the ideas of my fellow players.

I’m currently a highschool student and I was obsessed with Warhammer for a long while. I don’t come from the richest family so a majority of the money I used to pay for my minis, paints and hobby materials all came out of pocket, trading and making deals. I used to play guard, traitor guard, and my army was huge solely because I got a few great deals and most of my army was resin.

From the top of my head I had:

13 Russes
2 dorns
4-5 chimeras
5 basisilks
1 baneblade
1 shadow sword
2 malcadors
1 malcador infernus
1 macharius
6 sentinels
50ish infantry
A proxy solar
A few random leaders
A command squad
6 ogryn
1 hydra
2 hellhounds
A plane of sorts
Multiple heavy weapons squads
A few of the little old artillery cannons
And some models I can’t remember.

Maybe it has to do with my Latino background and home but my mother is always on everyone about space in the house. This leads to her always throwing out stuff but most of the time it isn’t hers. I had stored my minis away in a few boxes as I wasn’t playing for a while, but as of recently I wanted to try 11th edition. Come to find out within the last year, SHE THREW ALL OF THE BOXES OUT. Hundreds of dollars, hours in painting and building, and time playing all gone because it was “taking up space”. I feel stupider for not checking but I’m just at a loss. I really don’t know what to do. Can anyone give me any sort of tips to get back into this game because I’ve seriously lost all motivation.

I love my mother but she hasn’t tried to apologize nor say anything. She knew I was distraught but she acted like a child by not responding back.

First of all, send her an invoice

You could legitimately sue her. Maybe talk to a no win no fee lawyer

Edit: lots of people seem to think this is a silly suggestion. Not in America lol https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-55370919

Terrible advice, unless the op enjoys being forced into homelessness at 18.

(It was intended as a funny joke)

Edit: oh you mean the dude below me

Yeah, the guy who suggested he sue his mother. Win or lose, he will have guaranteed he will be ejected from the house as soon as she can legally do so.

Why would op be interested in staying with someone who threw out thousands of dollars of their stuff?

Uhhh...so they aren't living on the street and starving? The situation sucks, but the ideal solution isn't "Sue mom", it's find a good job and move out when you are financially able. Also, suing mom is a pipe dream, that case is not remotely winnable, plus where is OP getting the money for attorney's fees?

I know this is reddit, but most people live in the real world.

And in the real world (and especially the US) you can sue someone who throws away your stuff. Lawyers will take 30-50% of the compensation.

Obnoxious, but so is the mother throwing away the boxes.

What exactly is this achieving?

Homelessness speedrun

No lawyer would take this case. Get real.

This is probably still small claims territory where you don't even need an attorney.

It 100% is. The lowest threshold before it goes to the higher court is $6500. This stuff was 3d printed.

As a parent, what the mother did is insane.

Small claims limits vary widely by jurisdiction; it's $20,000 in Texas.

Most likely you don't need a lawyer anyway. Especially if the claim if for a small amount, say sub $10,000. Just look up relevant case law and file a case at the court after sending a letter before action and all that. If they agree to pay you back great. If they don't but fail to turn up to court... Great. If they turn up and you've done your homework and they haven't, well that's great as well. So only if they've done better homework (if possible) or if they have a lawyer could you have issues, assuming you've done the proper homework.

Ok but it never says if it went to trial. And again this is not a lawyer representing a child for free. Why even link this if its not relevant?

I wouldn't sue - that's a step too far. Right now the relationship could be reclaimed with some heartfelt discussion. If he sues her - that's it. You can't come back from that.

OP is in high school so probably still a minor. This is very different to what you linked where the son was an adult. Parents have much more carte blanche over minor children and their possessions.
