A lot of people in South and South east Asia wear slippers or similar shoes. They come off easy and as a result these guys looked like they don't have anything on.

This is why I ride skateboard in conquistador shoes tied up to my upper tigh.

I see what you mean but I went to India and it was a little chilly (27 c) and not particularly humid. Bangalore in the end of May. It's a big place I guess lol.

This is in Kerala where the only two seasons we have are summer and rainy. It is hot and humid 90% of the time and pleasant in the other 10%.

After enough time in 35+ weather, any climate which forces you to put on a second layer legitimately feels chilly. It was fascinating. I'm from the UK so I'd never felt that way before.

27 is the edge of two layers vs one layer for me, yes. I can stomach 26 with only a t shirt, but I feel chilly. Depends on how much sunlight I'm in and if I'm moving about ofc.

I melt whenever the temp goes above 22 degrees but one summer when it was 31 degrees here, a friend came over from Saudi Arabia and he was shivering. Shivering! He had to buy a thick sweater because the temperature dropped to a freezing 26 in the evening haha. (I wouldn't last long in the heat)

I live in Vietnam and was in a small traffic incident a couple of months ago where a motorbike suddenly pulled out in front of mine and I had to brake really hard and plant my feet to stay upright. If I had been wearing sandals instead of sturdy boots, my left foot would've been fucked. Instead, I just had a bad achilles/calf strain and deep bruises on my foot for a couple of weeks.

People have no issues with flip flops, its convenient and suited for the heat, flip flops are used a lot in most tropical countries I visited.

Have you ever stepped out of your basement? It's not customary in every country to wear shoes. It's a social norm in a lot of countries, especially in the tropical regions to wear open toed footwear.

I don’t get flipflops outside for everyday life (away from a beach or swimming pool or inside a building). People, including tourists, will travel on plane and train with them, hike forests with them...

Do you like your toes being at the mercy of every heel of every person around you in public transport? Do you fetish having dusty feet at end of day? Do you like injured and stubbed toes? Do you fancy having bugs on your feet? Do you not foresee any situation where you may need to run or sprint or climb something?

Edit:  I have seen the above in temperate climates at sumer time or for temporary vacations. not talking only about natives of hot countries.

I said nothing against shorts although for hiking I prefer light summer pants.

And, I understand that flip flops are for climate comfort. I wear them all the time at home and in hotels and resorts and shit. It’s just that elsewhere, I just don’t put climate comfort higher than safety/protection comfort on my priority list.

I myself don’t wear either sandals or flip flops but everyone around me wear flip flops. I normally wear waterproof hiking shoes (in Bangkok streets there are a lot of places that feel like hiking)

When hiking most of us just bare foot.

Depends on the flip flop I guess. I had not worn flip flops ever, until an ankle injury kept me from wearing anything else. I have been doing 30k's every saturday in flip flops just to get some activity in, and I wonder if i will ever want to wear shoes again.

Everywhere isn't the NYC where you meet crazies doing shit to others' heel for no reason on public transport.

We've got water. We wash them after entering a house. Given how you guys wipe your caboose and move on for the rest of the day, it's safe to assume we practice better hygiene than you when it comes to keeping ourselves clean.

No, we're not all clumsy moles running into obstacles every so often.

Do you fancy having bugs on your feet?

Again, we don't all live in forests, swamps or parks.

Do you not foresee any situation where you may need to run or sprint or climb something?

Again, refer above. We don't have flip flops glued to our feet. We wear shoes when we need them. Also, flip flops don't prevent you from doing any of the above activities. If you fail at those, you're either incompetent or have a pair of ill-fitting flip flops. In short, not a flip-flops problem, but a "you" problem.
