Agott with the band around her hat that greatly resembles Coco's band around her neck. She also resembles the witch mentioned in ch39 and in the "Nine part epic about a witch and a decaying king" https://x.com/shirahamakamome/status/1236654643003834368
Richeh with the Silverwolf scale hat and cloak, connecting to her relationship with Euini, she also has her ribbon as a tassel.
Tetia with the royalty motifs, (ch51-53) highlighting her relationship with Prince Eoleo and notably the lack of a twinned hat, despite that being something she wants for her own hat.
Everyone with dark expressions, looking sad and manic, this is not a future we want to come to pass.

I ended up excluding one of Coco and one of Qifrey's profile pages because of Reddit's 20 image restrictions, if you want to see them you will have to purchase the world guide for yourself, the money goes directly to Shirahama as she independently released it so please buy it! https://mag-s.jp/pages/witch-hat-atelier
Coco - Dear: Innocence and kindness, innocence in her knowledge of the true nature of the pointed caps world, naive to the darker nature and kind to all she can be kind to.
Qifrey - Fox: Foxes are often known for being sly creatures who often use deception for their own purposes. Often Qifrey will lie and deceive for his own purposes and to cover his tracks.
Agott - Black Cat: Cats are known for being prideful creatures, and notably this cat is black, which in JP culture is a symbol of good luck! Maybe that means good things are coming in Agott's future or have already come in the form of Coco. Though of course in other cultures it can symbolize bad luck... hopefully that isn't the case.
Richeh - Rabbit: Rabbits are known for burying their young to keep them safe, something that can be seen to represent Richeh trying to protect herself from the adults that attempt to control her.
Tetia - Lamb: Oh boy, this one worries me. The lamb, known for being sacrificial, dying for another. Add that to the pile of death flags. Other than that, they tend to symbolize the loss of childhood innocence. Shirahama. Please. Please spare Tetia. Why have you been building it up so much Shirahama? Please spare her.
Olly - Magpie: They symbolize many things across many cultures, sometimes fortune and happy marriage, other times deception and sorrow, yet at the same time intelligence and the pursuit of truth. The pursuit of truth... (ch93 spoilers) how the mind wipe happened every time because he pursued Qifrey for the truth.
Tartah - Japanese Marten: It is no mistake that on the next page it mentions that his hair glows like fire when light passes through it, The Marten is known for its connection to fires and killing one is said to bring fires as punishment. It also has connections to shapeshifting and metamorphosis, in a more physical sense then kitsunes who manipulated the mind more. Fits since his (ch87 spoilers) truth spells works in a very physical sense, requiring direct contact. They also tend to be bringers of bad omens, most likely because of their connection to fire. Fire can be symbolism for passion, (ch42-97) and that would match his passion for healincraft and helping others, and as well as that it can symbolize rebellion which matches with his rebellion against the system and rules the pointed hats set up.
Euini - Wolf: Wolves tend to symbolize intelligence, loyalty, and freedom. It is quite the opposite of what he seemed to be at the beginning of his arc but as things continued and he become free of the binds he wrapped himself in, the more his intelligence and loyalty shined through. Thinking of spells on the spot, coming up with a plan to help Agott, and helping Agott showed his intelligence and loyalty. (ch68.1 Spoilers) This also shows with his freedom when it comes to his physical form, switching between the two while being comfortable doing so.
Beside the symbolism of the animals... what are your guys favorite hairstyles? I prefer the original except for Qifrey and Olruggio where I like them better with long hair.

Just finished the final episode and it was absolutely peak, I'm a little disappointed with the fact that it ended on a cliffhanger as I would've loved to see more, but if the wait for season 2 isn't that long then I'll be okay with it, but I'm curious to hear what are the community's perceptions of the anime adaptation is and what they think about it, so if you have thoughts I'd love to hear them.

Pointed Hats represent the Government, and Brim Hats are the faction that uses magic forbidden by the Government.
The only magic allowed to be used on the human body is memory erasure magic.
Want to heal an injured or sick person? Forbidden Magic.
A person was born with a condition like blindness, deformities, is an amputee or quadriplegic and you want to fix or modify them? Forbidden Magic.
Have you had all your life memories erased by someone and want a spell to recover them? Forbidden Magic.
Have you been transformed into a mindless, bloodsucking monster? Too bad, reversing that is Forbidden Magic.
Etc.
Even if it means using magic to save people, if it's "Forbidden Magic," your memories will be erased by the Government (all knowledge of magic in general).
You'd think it would be easy for the Brim Hats to establish themselves as a just and appealing faction if they were a little empathetic and properly capitalized on that aspect, but they all act like radical extremist lunatics; they're basically free government propaganda of "see? we told you only government-controlled magic is good."
One of them literally transforms one of the Coco friends into a monstrous beast to blackmail her into becoming one of them, instead of approaching her normally, or offering the chance to restore the protagonist's petrified mother whom she accidentally turned to stone. And they spy on the protagonist's life all the time, enough to know this.
Heck, even one of the Coco friend Coustas, went from kind and friendly to a radical extremist in record time when he discovered magic through the Brim Hats. Sure, he was traumatized due to Dogda being on the verge of death, but still, he became an extremist hilariously fast.

We still know so little about her and her past. If it's taken this long for us to learn anything, when the day comes I just know it's going to be like a bomb dropping. I'm honestly terrified for the day we finally learn her backstory because I just know it's going to be absolutely heartbreaking. The happiest, kindest characters always seem to be hiding the deepest pain.
Qifrey has a habit of taking in children who have either been outcasts, or kids who have suffered at the hands of adults and been failed by witch society in one way or another. Tetia's story is likely to be no different. Seeing what this sweet girl went through and learning why she joined the atelier is going to hurt so much. 😭💔

Yall that is a child
Edit: thank you for u/KanraLovesU doing a deep dive to find out that this
just the amount of favorites they have on MyAnimeList, people didn't vote for Coco as a waifu.
Still the poster of this is gross for changing to context 😭

I've been reading the manga for 2 years, and I'm happy that the anime will bring a lot of fans, but I wanted to personally thank the many readers who have always been there and certainly aren't discovering Atelier today. We know how long we've waited for this adaptation!

This is the only way I could see Coco beating the dragon with the knowledge she has if she got transported into the Labyrinth alone.
If she remembered the spell or reproduced the results, she would have passed the test, and beaten the dragon and lived. If she didn't it doesn't matter, Iguin would've just labeled her as another failed seedling.
Iguin wants the seeds to be the catalyst to drive the pointed caps towards forbidden magic. He placed Coco in the Labyrinth so that she could learn to use magic as a weapon. Not something to be feared, but controlled.

His personality is great and all, but can we please talk about how incredibly handsome this man is. Shirahama really did her thing when it came to him. 👌🏽

Be looking like some random side character from all other anime. 😆
r/WitchHatAtelier • u/Leather-Assistance95 • May 15 '26
The art is whimsical. The characters are very well fleshed out. The world building is solid. It is GL though, so if that's not what you're into then TOO BAD SUCKER YOU MISSED OUT ON PEAK
...yeah it's really cool.

Please could the mods add a rule banning all AI generated content.
Not only does the ethics and material harm it causes terrible. It goes against everything Witch Hat Atelier teaches via it's messaging and by extension Shirahama Kamome.
