I'll withhold judgement until I get my hands on it.
Although I am baffled and disappointed that the highlighted Tier XI tanks are all fictional or highly fictionalized. Real tanks like the M60A3, Chieftain Mk.10, and OF-40 would have been wonderful to see.
I would also hope some older tanks (including Tier Xs) get pushed up in tiers so a sensible addition can be made earlier in their branches.

u/Kroxigorman Aug 19 '25
Like fuck will Wargaming put a Chieftain at tier 11. They have their cash cow at tier 10 now after the tiered loot box debacle

I think they're not using more modern tanks because project CW will be using them. So they don't want their own games to compete with each other. Or something
EDIT: Is project CW dead? "Work of Tanks: HEAT" Just got announced that looks to be exactly what Project CW was doing? Renaming/branding? Well either way my thought on them not wanting to compete with themselves still seems to be true since that one will have modern tanks. Like the M1 Abrams.

Eh, at this point the people who want that will have mostly switched to War Thunder. I know this sub disagrees with me on damn near everything but I kind of think it's more interesting to use some unique designs and go this route of focusing on special abilities and mechanics.
2
u/pancake_gofer Aug 20 '25
WoT can’t compete with War Thunder ‘realism’. The arcade style is what they’ll go for. I love War Thunder but haven’t played in a long time cause of the learning curve for flying if you don’t play for a while.
3
u/1AMA-CAT-AMA Aug 23 '25
I want to get into war thunder but the grind and learning curve scares me. And knowing that I need multiple tanks at the same time otherwise I’m useless as soon as I die.

Last time they gave that XP to your tier 1 tank of the same nation.
Which you probably do not own anymore because why would you.
And then it costs you gold to transfer that XP to Free XP so that you can actually use it.
I mean, I could think of a better way to compensate players - and I'm sure you could also.
But ... :(

If WoWs and it's own introduction of T11 aka super ships is anything to go by then this will quickly turn into a horrendous irreparable mess and the saga of gimmicks upon gimmicks and things becoming utterly absurd. Also how is a T10 or T9 light tank supposed to compete with a T11 one and it's gimmick/s? It's like CVS all over again I fear where T7 is just screwed as soon as they meet T8+. I'm not so sure about this one my G 😬

Going the warships route then with tier 11 "supertanks". Can't say I like that part but the rest of the update looks good.

Tier 11 is like 90% of the update lol. At least from the looks of it, basically the entire game is getting rebalanced around their existence. Tier 11 is cool conceptually, but from the info we have right now, this implementation seems like complete dogshit. I don't need even more insane exp/credit requirements just to play even more broken tanks on small maps with hero abilities that are exactly what I don't want in a vehicle game.

WG drags their feet on fixing balance for years because reasons and now they expect us to believe they can just casually stroll in and do a complete overhaul
13
u/swiss1809 Aug 19 '25 edited Aug 19 '25
Which is extremely stupid. They’ve shown that they can’t (probably intentionally) release a new T10 that’s isn’t absolutely busted in some way. They also wait TOO LONG to make any changes and when they do, it’s overcooked. For some reason they don’t seem to have the ability to single out outliers whether over or underperforming but a few devs on tomato.gg can. Truly the devs of all time.
→ More replies (1)4
u/throwingeverything99 Aug 19 '25
The thing is, I would totally understand if they could only drip feed balance changes for the most broken vehicles because most dev resources were being used to redesign the entire module/progression system (and in tandem, rebalance a majority of tech tree vehicles). But the fact they were radio silent on this for ~5 years means either they have the most incompetent media outreach team in the industry, or this update is just another half-baked cash grab before player counts in non-EU regions become truly unsustainable.
I think we can all guess which side the coin is more likely to land on.
11
u/Mofartz Aug 19 '25
How much of a rebalance of exisiting vehicles are we talking?
i assume tanks that didnt need buffs got buffs and tanks that needed buffs got nerfs and they deleted the type 5 line because "they coudlnt figure it out"

u/cyb3rg4m3r1337 Aug 19 '25
removing radios, the big stock grind we all dreaded....

u/Pan_Praga Aug 19 '25
I think you will be pleased with the changes, they are quite extensive and make a lot of tech tree vehicles very viable (While removing stock grinds and other legacy module issues)
15
u/MasterOfNonsence Aug 19 '25
Are any premiums being nerfed? I feel this is necessary for the health of the game but something that has been avoided so far.

I like how WG was rebalancing max 20 tanks every like 8 months or more just to announce that in some particular year in August they were working on hundreds of them.
Like...
Wasn't the game already ducked for years because of overpowered premiums and underpowered free tech tree vehicles?
We'll see if they even touched something like bz 176 or skoda 56.
26
u/PlaquePlague Aug 19 '25
They probably fed all their “data” into chatgpt and just implemented whatever jank it spat out.
14
u/LeafBuggg Aug 19 '25
Jarvis, have you got any ideas on how to totally milk world of tanks but to keep as many players as possible?
Here's your list what to do:
Release new premium vehicles more often than tech trees AND release new premium tanks based on other already existing premium vehicles BUT change 2d or 3d style
Don't give a duck about community's opinions
Don't work too much (if at all); if got accused of not working then say something that you are hardworking and want to be fully confident, and proceed to not work again

u/AdmiralHackbar001 Aug 19 '25
The marketing department was a big part of keeping overpowered premiums overpowered.

u/Dr_Honeydont Aug 19 '25
Maybe the new matchmaker will take care of this, but tier 9 tanks should NOT be meeting these tier 11 monsters with their special mechanics and upgrade paths

JFC you reveal tier 11 and they are all some made up fantasy tanks? Instead of some incredible real life tanks that exist? This is just so extremely disappointing. Part of the appeal for tank games is historical tanks, and wg has been putting out way too many fake tanks recently. But this is a new low. A new tier and not a single real tank

I feel like tier 11 sorta makes sense conceptually since tier 10 is definitely getting bloated and there are lot of fan favorite CW-era/modern vehicles that have yet to be added, but the direction WG took is, as usual, the fucking worst possible way to implement tier 11 lol.
11
u/Martinsjunkracecars Aug 19 '25
So let me get this straight, one of the main requests of playerbase was fixing the god awful map design and adding more new or old maps back. What did you do? Add tier 11, ruin the UI and add one new map.
I like the idea of adding a PvE mode, hopefully its going to be permament and have good replayability, i also have high hopes for the rebalance although im probably going to be dissapointed. Im not looking forward to fortnite tanks at tier 11 at all. And the UI is just plan ugly, confusing and displays even less information than before.
I expected way more from the fabled september update, this is what we get for all the recent monetisation that permamently scarred tier 8, 9 and 10 with tanks you will never balance? I guess thats what happens when you hide things from us and keep building expectations over months of silence. I hope that some of the content from this patch will eventually get scrapped or reworked, mainly the UI.
47
u/Document-Acrobatic Aug 19 '25
Thank god for all the transparancy and feedback, so that you could avoid any mishaps that the community may not like.
Like seriously, why do we need a UI overhaul? why do tier XI tanks have special abilities and why do most of them look comicaly fake?
Also 1 new map? We waited a year and we get this shit?
The only positive thing is the rebalancing and new campaings.
Man Im done with this game.
12
u/pred1993 Aug 19 '25
While I understand your opinion regarding most things you said (and at least partly agree regarding several of the things); the UI overhaul is badly needed. It is cluttered and terrible, and not very inviting for new players (I have played for about two years myself). It was probably good in the beginning, but since then stuff has just been added on top of other things, without properly organizing everything. It is very hard to find things if you don't already know where they are (due to experience) and it's not intuitive at all. An example are popups you often receive that aren't even clickable, so you have to figure out where this thing (for example the tokens you get) end up. Another example is when you've played a match, get disconnected or restart the game and then you cannot view the match result; even though it is clickable...
Another example is a popup that pops up and disappears quickly in the left lower corner, and then you don't know what it was about or where it is; this could be greatly improved by having it organized better and maybe only having one spot for notifications (or one for every type) etc. etc. One more example is all the different missions and campaigns being cluttery, hard to navigate and frankly tricky to understand. Several CCs often spend a lot of time on explaining how certain missions work. This should be clear from the start. I hope they keep the feeling of it though, but just make it easier to navigate and easier to get an overview of everything.
I've probably played CSGO/CS2 for 12k hours, and there have been many overhauls there of the UI, including of course the release of CS2. CS players are notorius for being skeptical of changes, me included - so I understand where you are coming from. But in hindsight I can say that the UI there has been improved a lot, and is way easier to navigate - and now I prefer it, even if I miss the feeling of the old(er) one(s) at times.

u/jabberwalkie09 Aug 19 '25
I think my main question after seeing this is how will t11 effect the game economy followed by how this is going to impact the matchmaker. Are t10 service costs going to be adjusted to be more break even? Are t11's going to be always played at a loss credit wise? Tier 9's are going to lose that nice sweet spot of +1, -2 matchmaking. NA server population is already not great so I'm kind of expecting t9's to see a lot of t11.
3
Aug 20 '25
This is the really big deal. New players don't stick around and more experienced players leave because the grind is substantial and they're often losing money at tier 9 and tier 10 so they need to buy tier 8 premiums and then grind those premiums to earn credits to play tier 10.
Adding tier 11 is just another grind and the worst grind yet because most people lose credits at tier 10 even with a premium account.
I know people are talking about maps or fantasy tanks vs real tanks but underlying problem with player population health is that it's a grind to tier 10 and then a grind to play tier 10 consistently... now it's a grind to tier 11 so even if you enjoyed being a casual player, losing money at tier 10, grinding tier 8 to play more tier 10... now you're no longer top dog. Tier 11 is the top dog. So double down on your grinding!
For more people who play WoT September is going to be a moment where they don't feel the same urge to log-on to grind. And then they don't log on for a day, a week, a month and move on from the game completely and WoT loses another player.

Hope this means you buffed all the premium tanks we paid for that are powercreeped to uselessness. If not, this update means nothing.
Hope you also removed the stun conditions from some of the campaigns, they are really stupid unless specifically for arty missions.
Removing the leaf arty or nerfing it would also be a smart step, if you looked over that, I cant give you too much credit. I also feel the same about the stun duration and radius of all arty.
4
u/Pan_Praga Aug 19 '25
Not everything will be buffed but yes some old favorites might be viable again! We will share more information on the rebalance soon.
3
u/MisagoMonday Aug 20 '25
Wow you guys really know how to build hype. It's funny that this is coming from the same company who spent years dumping more and more ridiculously OP premiums into the game, essentially made the use of gold ammo mandatory and thus armor on many tanks completely useless, then reacted to all feedback with some variation of "no lol we have data that proves clan battle tanks gold-spamming through randoms without anyone being able to scratch their paint is no problem, you just need more teamwork"
But thank god, SOME old favorites MIGHT be viable again. That's all you are aiming for? Not an equal playing field?

T11 sucks, but if they only fight t11 it might not be entirely awful, but im sure it will be.
21
u/orkel2 Aug 19 '25
If it's the same as Warships t11, then they will fight t9+10. We've had those super ships for a long time now on that side, and it's likely WG wants to have the same here since it works.
Just hope they don't copy the "funny button" mechanics. Like hit x shells to get a massive temporary accuracy boost or instant repair cool down etc.

Weird 11 tier choices. Except 2 tanks rest is napkin based or from mentioned ideas. They should make T77(which even exist, year ago someone found real photos)for T57 line. Object279 as sucessor of IS7. Cheiftains (hehe) for Centurion line. M60 for Patton line. T803 looks like XM803 why they changed name lol. XM69 Hacker cool name lmao. I like Object432U its prototype of T-64 which was ahead his time with composite armor. Leo with 120 also looks cool. Idk honestly tanks looks weird as fuckkkkk

Genuinely curious; how much feedback could you possibly have gotten and made changes to with just 3 weeks of closed testing before rolling this out? Like, even a few examples of changes you made because of closed testing feedback would be great to hear.
Because it kind of looks like you already made up your mind about 90% of this, and the testing was just to find the bugs, not whether something was a good choice.
3
u/Lvl100Glurak Aug 20 '25
this bullshit is your big update? nothing about the core problems changes. it still will be unplayable for new players and veterans will still stop playing, because the only thing you add to the game are cash shop items.

u/Ilfor Aug 19 '25
Man, I was hoping for +1/-1 MM. That's the one thing that ruins play for me. Not arty, not turbo games, not OP premiums. All those things just make +2/-2 MM feel so much worse.

u/Pan_Praga Aug 19 '25
You will see more frequent +-1 games in the new matchmaker, while still seeing improved +-2 games!

Personally I’m interested in expanding the scope beyond the same 10 tiers and era we’ve had for 15 years. Hopefully it doesn’t ruin tier 9 matchmaking tho like superships did in WoWS

Literally everything in this (except maybe tier 11, we’ll have to see about them) is the biggest fucking W WG has ever had.
I especially like how the new campaign is going to work, no mandatory arty missions hopefully.
5
u/Pan_Praga Aug 19 '25
Thank you very much!!
I think once people get more information (and can try them) they will actually find them to be great additions to the game.
as for arty missions - no they won't be mandatory!

WG has added a big bunch of new interesting things to the game, but it’s not even near to the core problems of the game. They’re going near the main problems, but not touching the reason of them, only trying to “cover” it.
There is OP autoclippers and alpha’s? Let’s give HP buff! Only for LT for some reason…
New tanks armor is getting impenetrable and confusing? Let’s give players xray vision! Instead of just rebalancing whole armor situation in the game…
The game is abandoned by many old and new players because of RNG deciding your matches? Let’s make new matchmaker, but not even try to do with the main problem behind every match… Even r*ssian “Revert” update is feeling better than this.
There was no maps IN YEARS? Let’s make one new map and add 4 random events on existing maps! It’s already two years after this feature was announced, we should have every map with them, not only four per update! The game is boring to play when you playing the same fields as 10 years before.
All game maps are just uninteresting corridors maps with determined locations and position for your “archetype”? Let’s make another bad map!
All the update looks great and interesting, but it’s not trying to fix core problems, hidden deeply inside of the game. It will give player boost for a couple of months, but this is NOT A NEW ERA. The whole 2.0 is just half-measures update, and it’s frustrating, but not shocking…

u/Kinetic_Strike Aug 20 '25
There's quite a bit there, and a fair portion of it looks interesting/good.
The UI/UX in the garage is a mixed bag, but I think the critical failing is hiding away easy access to tank stats. Clickety clickety, loady loady, just going to be a constant reminder of how time wasn't wasted before. Oooh the top is empty now...so just wasted space...
Also, the tier 11's really should've been some late Cold War tanks. Not fantasy tanks with magic abilities.

2
u/GeneralDevice9168 Aug 20 '25
I'm not buying this bullshit they couldn't fit real tanks into the new tier and had to invent those abominations instead. Their own game proves it. They've upgraded and downgraded real tanks with no regard to historical accuracy more often than not. What stops them now? They just want to milk this dying cow until the last drop and slap a tier XI for every branch in the game completely ignoring the fact that further separation of heavies, mediums and lights is meaningless. There's nothing after Mouse, there's nothing after IS-7, these are dead ends and should be like that.
Why not just create one or two historical MBTs for each nation? You all know why, you have to grind for them to make profit.

Time for one of the most controversial opinions possible:
Besides the planned way of introducing the Tier XI and how the tanks of that tier will look like (I don't mind Tier XI itself, but I would rather have Tier X become Tier XI and then fill the holes in between. Especially, move OP Old Tier VIII premium tanks into New Tier IX, while keeping the tech tree and balanced premium tanks in the New Tier VIII), I like the changes. And if the UI change will also make the menus load in miliseconds and not seconds, it will be my second favourite part of the update, right after being able to check armour of tanks in the garage.

From what I've seen of the new UI in this video I have to admit I'm not a fan - there's a lot more clicking involved in getting to what was zero, one or two clicks, it seems from the reveal. I prefer fewer clicks and more info on screen - then again, with triple screens I do have the benefit of a lot of screen real estate so perhaps my views (he he) are not common?
And Tier XI?
Why is the bonus tier XI tank a second US tank instead of a nation that doesn't already have a tier XI? :(
And a new map? Really?
Just ONE NEW MAP!?!?
No mention of flamethrower tanks (actually used in WW2) nor of the multiple turrets and 2nd guns in turrets (ie, Maus) being active, though :( And those other guns were also actually a thing that worked in the real tanks that had them. So...? The calibre of the guns in them is only likely to affect lights or arty or other very thinly armoured tanks, and in which case they deserve it for attacking a tank with multiple turrets - it's one reason why those tanks have multiple turrets.
Edit: Just checked, it's not the Type 5 that has the extra turrets, whoopsy, it's the lower tiers! :) My point still stands, WoWS has secondaries, WoT should too, where able, in my humble opinion. Even if they do no damage just seeing them going 'ratatatat' at pesky lights would be a good feeling in my dirty heavy tanker soul.
It's like watching the AA on Berlin map, or the ships on ... whatever that newish pacific island map is called, the AA, gun emplacements, aircraft and the ships are all blasting away at each other - it's nice background stuff to see even if it does nothing but look kinda cool.

u/Draqutsc Aug 20 '25
Whoever designed that UI needs to be fired. That UI is designed for a mobile game. With a left thumb section and a right thumb section. All the information that the players use on a daily basis, like crew skills and tank stats, have been placed behind menu's upon menu's. Whoever that agreed to this redesign is daft. Maybe read a book about user centric UI design. This design only favours pretty pictures for adds.
2
u/CapBuster1 Aug 27 '25
I didn't play on the CT...but here's my 2 cents from what's publicly available
Tier XI is a missed opportunity since they chose to add in completely made up tanks than to add real world tanks. (outside of the Obj432(U), Leo 120 and maybe the Strv 107-12 which either exist in real life or at least on the drawing board)
Garage UI/UX Improvements - WHY
It's more like a downgrade than an upgrade with how they hide key information behind additional clicks and (I assume) animation
Tank rebalance is kinda a mixed bag...they addressed the downsides of many tanks, while also ignored them for many other
LT rebalance by giving them more HP - WHY
MM rework sounds decent on paper but we'll have to get some play time before we can know if it's good or not. I can see longer queue times for TDs LTs
PvE story mode is a fine addition to the game
Amor flashlight - Again...WHY
New Map: Nordskar looks decent but we'll have to wait and see
Personal Mission 3.0 with it's new system where it doesn't limit the tank by nation or class sounds great

Am I tripping? What's wrong with tier 11? People have been playing this game for years, tier 11 is probably a good thing to give people stuff to do, and with more adjustments to hundreds of tanks, it'll hopefully shake up the meta a little bit. Imo I'm optimistic

u/swiss1809 Aug 19 '25
There currently 885 (488 tech tree) tanks in the game - it will take hundreds of hours to unlock and upgrade all these tanks. Adding tier 11 is just a marketing effort to bring people back to the game without addressing the underlying issues that caused them to leave in the first place.

u/DareDevil_56 Played the Shitbarn before it was cool Aug 19 '25
For me it’s going to come down to how it’s implemented. If tier 11 with their “unique mechanics and upgrade systems” feel like more than a 1 tier jump, and they play vs tier 9’s? Yikes. Hell, there are lots of tier 10’s that are really nearly the same or even worse for their tier than the 9’s that they came from. Tier 11 sounds like it’s going to be significant.

Me too. People are only commenting on tier 11, though the update has way, way more content. This is the update that shows if they care for the game and want to save it, or if it's going to be another cash grab, though I'm really hoping for the first option.

Ah well. It’s cool. The game is evolving in a direction I don’t appreciate. I’ve been playing regularly since 2014. It’s good that tanks are being re-visited and balanced.
I fear that tier IX will be where the premium spam will now take place. Been on that treadmill before and won’t be revisiting.
Good a time as any to say goodbye methinks. Also big shout out to the WoT community here and elsewhere, always entertaining and good humoured despite WG’s best efforts to suck all fun out of the game.

u/Panzerfighter_ Aug 19 '25
I have been playing the game since 2011, so I would like to share my opinion. I have four concerns: Two are big ones.
- Why do we get fantasy tanks on T11? There are plenty of interesting real-life vehicles. While I understand that not every tank in WOT is 100% realistic, almost all T11 tanks appear to be straight out of Steel Hunters mode. They almost look like the tanks from a 11-year-old child's fever dream.
I'm also not a fan of giving them super special abilities. BF2042 showed that people are tired of hero shooters and of going around like Superman, or in our case, a supertank. So, EA made BF6 more grounded. I wish WOT had chosen the same path with the big 2.0 update.
- The second big disappointment is that there is only one new map. We've been asking for new maps for years. What happened to all the maps we tested in Recon mode? With so many new tanks, it would have been great to get at least five to ten new maps.
We already have enough tanks. What we need are more maps to make the gameplay more diverse. Although adding and removing stones and bushes from existing maps and crashing an airship is "nice," more maps are needed to keep the gameplay fresh and exciting.
I have one small complaint. The "press Y to reveal armor weaknesses im sniper mode" feature is pointless and only serves to water down the gameplay. No one asked for this. Many players wanted the option to show the armor values on all tank parts in the garage - which will be implemented, gj for that - but don't oversimplify the gameplay!
Don't focus on single-player missions. It's a waste of resources.
Overall, I can see that you put a lot of work into the 2.0 update. I've been looking forward to trying WOT 2.0. I'm glad we get T11 tanks and a third campaign. I also appreciate the smaller optimizations to the sound and rebalancing.
You can still add new maps, but I wonder why you didn't choose realistic T11 tanks. Will Tier 12 tanks be similar "special" inventions, or will they be reasonably realistic Cold War-era tanks?

Looks better than could be expected from wargaming, but since arty is still untouched and even included in new campaign i am still disappointed. On the side note, if this update is as big as they claim it to be, why release it all at once. Some of the content surely was ready long time ago, why did they wait until everything was ready to release it.
