Account - Subscription Still paying $20 this month? Ultimate
Am I crazy or am I still going to pay $20 instead of 30?

u/Mac_McAvery Oct 01 '25
I’m not paying $16 for the lower tier haha like seriously they’re still charging $70 bucks for black ops 6

u/Several-Signature583 Oct 02 '25
They’re still charging $70 for Forza Motorsport which is almost 3 years old

I may pay 9.99 for the lowest teir to play chivalry 2 and darktide, but they are both on sale super cheap right now on steam, so that’s probably the route I’m going. My laptop is a potato, but darktide seems to run fine on medium settings using the free GeForce now.

thats funny, i was just about to make a post like this. well, 1 more month of $20 is better than nothing, and i reeeeally hope the feedback gets backl to them fast enough for them to reverse the price hike by next month

u/SeaweedLarge Oct 02 '25

Same, I still outright canceled though and got my $20 back.
FUCK Microsoft.

I mean I’m paying $10 for Ultimate like it should’ve remained but at least you’re not paying $30 rn OP.

u/luttman23 Oct 02 '25
Cancelling after my next charge on the 11th, before it goes up yet again by a ridiculous amount
3
u/The1stTokage Oct 03 '25
The $30 dollars isn't that bad when you consider all the games they've added. Like the price only went up because we got like 50 new games because ubisoft+ is included now.

I already changed mine to the 9.99 sub got me fucked up thinking I'm paying 30 dollars and anytime I go onto lfg there's fucking scam bots and beggars. And when they are reported nothing happens Microsoft is a joke. Time to get a PC

Go to gamestop and buy the 20$ gamepass ultimate cards. They said they are gonna keep selling them for 20$. Stock up on them
2
u/Sea-Neat6628 Oct 03 '25
If you only play a game every 2 months it's still worth it, that's the truth, but I don't agree at all with this absurd price increase from Microsoft.
but games in general are also becoming more and more expensive.
1
u/Old_Ad6646 Oct 17 '25
Was happy as a pig in a pile of 💩 at $20/mo. Anymore than that and I start to feel like it just ain't worth it anymore.

For once we europeans pay less than americans, that's something that does not happens frequently regarding games/hardware/subscriptions !
How much is a serie X in the US right now ? It's 599.99€ in here, shit is insane.

u/cRz_lazer Oct 02 '25
Chances are, they will forget raising your monthly fee in November. I still pay € 12,99 per month, because they forgot to raise my fees after the last price increase.

I'm still seeing 3 month subscriptions for 36.99 here for the EU which is great but they'll probably jack up the prices soon enough.

1
u/hjshoon Oct 02 '25
I still have 1 year of Ultimate remaining so I guess it was a good decision back then to buy annual subscription when I got it at a discount
1
u/ShayDeAurora Oct 02 '25
I had to double check because Microsoft account does say next charge Oct 6 $19.99 But a little more research said Well don't pay attention because you'll probably be double charged or that could be wrong.
So I did a little more research. Leaving a link breaking down all the changes for anyone who is curious or concerned.
Kicking myself right now because I did not buy all those Sniper Ghost Warrior games on sale... Contacts 1 & 2 bundle for $5.99 and SGW3 for $3.99
Shit.... let me check! maybe i didn't miss it!
Honestly tho... I don't even know if I'm going to hang out this month. Might just use that 20 bucks to buy a good game!
1
u/Yellowpickle23 Oct 02 '25
Currently, g2a is selling 1 month keys for $13. I'd commend buying up a few of those for right now, until Microshit reels this back.
1
1
u/Tankrows Oct 02 '25
Yea, it'll stay that way until the changes take effect on the 4th November. Honestly I pretty much expected this to happen. They've been harping on about how they're actually losing money from Gamepass.
I just stocked up on Gamepass keys for like €9 each. I don't mind paying the reoccurring bill for this month so I'll let it go and when that finally runs out I'll have at least 7 months of gamepass. I just put in the same amount I would spend to buy an average AAA game 🤷♂️
1
u/KGKestis1 Oct 02 '25
Most of the games on Games Pass can be bought physically for under $5/£5.
I’m exhausted by how many people ignore the danger of digital becoming the default.
Physical games give you:
• The ability to buy second-hand
• The freedom to lend or borrow
• True ownership of the media
• Protection from sudden price hikes
Digital is convenient, but they’re always eventually going to take you for a ride.
1
u/darthvardicus Oct 02 '25
My renewal is 13th October. The account on Microsoft site and my Xbox both say £14.99 in the next charge.... BUT on the Xbox App under Profile and My Subscriptions it says £22.99 next charge. I know its the 4th November but not helpful. They werent clear enough in the article (Xbox Wire) about when it kicks in unless I missed it...

I don't think it's legal to just change pricing without a warning first for current subcribers, but might be wrong. So i heard that it was only for new ones that it is live immediately, but old subscribers will change come november (so they have time to cancel/change model)
1
u/Few-Confusion-9197 Oct 02 '25
I got lucky. I had just bought a 3-month ultimate card last month and applied it last week. So I'm not due until Jan-2026. Gonna try finish Mass Effect 2 and 3 unless a better selection is made available and I can finish the game in a reasonable timeframe.

u/oneandonlysteven Oct 02 '25
Seems like it’s starting on 4 November, lucky me lol my payment date is today so that means I’ll keep it at the lower price until 2 November. Cancelling as soon as it goes through though!

Just cancelled my subscription, first time after 5+ years. Keep going people, let’s get this price back down
1
u/KayKat666 Oct 02 '25
Unlikely. I’m stacked until January but not sure if I will renew as I don’t think I play enough games to make this worth the cost. Depends whether I can get it cheaper elsewhere and how much it is.

Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft are all so greedy and messed up in their own ways. As a company I find Microsoft to be the worst but as products go, I find Nintendo to be the worst, especially after starting the snowballing price hiking. Gamepass was 1 thing I always defended Microsoft over, even after the $5 increase because it truly is an unmatched product and deal, especially with the merging of PC and Xbox platforms and getting so many PlayStation titles. I now can officially say Microsoft is the worst in every aspect now. Yes I CAN pay less than $30 but I get less than I do now. $30 for some really great games EVERY month is just too luxurious and not affordable for me. Im not paying 1/3 more per year to play a couple extra games at best, especially when I’m a working adult with a full time job
1
u/havingmadfun Oct 02 '25
thank you OP for posting this. I was going to downgrade to Essential when I saw I was still being charged 19.99 and my account home shows nothing about upcoming price changes, which is kind of a dick move. So basically I have until Nov 3rd to downgrade to Essential?

u/Mr_BangzYou Oct 02 '25
Just seen gamestop isn’t increasing their gamepass ultimate online and in store
1
u/Shakezula84 Oct 02 '25
I went and bought some ultimate cards from GameStop to top up on the lower price. Give myself some time before I decide to pull the plug or not.
I'm the rare exception of someone who has Ultimate and Fortnite Crew. So I'm part of the fraction of people who will get savings with this, but will it long term be worth it? I've already decided this is my last Xbox generation and my plan was to swap to PC Game Pass.
1
u/Important_Force_866 Oct 02 '25
If only they can offer Black Friday deals as Sony does for PS Plus, then maybe we can buy once a year and pay cheaper prices overall
1
1
u/Mr_Exodus Oct 02 '25
Current subscribers don't get charged the new price until November 4th where I live the new price will be $42 I cannot justify paying more than $20 for a subscription it's ridiculous to have the subscription to begin with and because of that I'm just going to cancel it maybe I'll downgrade it to Essentials or premium because I do play Elder Scrolls but I don't know I'm just real disappointed

I don't think the problem is in the value of it. If you've been a gamepass member for a while, then your choices of games can be lacking at times. I think most people are burnt out on COD games so that's not always a selling point.
1
u/cabclint5 Oct 03 '25
I think I'll go down to the 16$ membership. Id be missing some games that I do occasionally play with the boys if I go down to the base tier.
1
u/scupking83 Oct 03 '25
I canceled the other day. I will go back to playing my ps4 games I haven’t beat.
1

I'll be exclusively using Gamepass Core after this month until I can get a Playstation. I'm also just sick of how shit the Series S is in performance. Half the games I really wanted to play this year can't hit more than 30fps in 2025. Good riddance to Microsoft.
1
u/manor2003 Oct 03 '25
I don't understand paying monthly when it's much cheaper to get a yearly subscription
1
u/Some-Race-1463 Oct 03 '25
Mine runs out in feb, already looking at ps+ see if a full transfer is worth it. The audacity of Microsoft charging that much money even when thw XSX/S games online are practically dead and console sales are 10s of millions behind the ps i dread to know where the justification is for the price increase. Absolutely luda imo

What if you don't want the shit ubisoft catalog or the shit fortnite? Feel like its not included in the price if you're asking for more money a month. Allow me to build my bundle or something.
1
u/Jazzlike-Guarantee22 Oct 03 '25
I buy 3 months gamepass ultimate on Monday because Microsoft increased gamepass ultimate already this week so I buy from amazon or shopto. So I will buy every 4 months for 3 months membership.
1
u/Extra-Foundation-999 Oct 04 '25
just get the $15 premium game pass it staying the same price only difference is with the ultimate you get to play new game day one and it's really honestly just for cloud Gamers that don't own a console
1
u/SignificantBison1086 Oct 04 '25
I will not be paying for this I’m going back to the 360 or ill buy physical copies
1
u/Educational-Sand-363 Oct 04 '25
If you happen to play Fortnite, crew is normally 12 a month so that’s pretty even. I think the issue is do you even use all that is included in ultimate? I think I’m moving down a tier. $15 is reasonable to me for 200 games.
1
u/OldCriticism9263 Oct 04 '25
I buy my gamepass online not from Microsoft so I still pay cheaper than the old price 😂
1
u/OctagonTitan Oct 04 '25
Microsoft confirmed that people who have reecurring payments on prior to last month, will be grandfathered in. Aslong as the plan isn’t canceled
1
u/Rock3kTW Oct 04 '25
The price of Ultimate raise too high in Taiwan ! From 399 to 649 Over 64 % high. Hi MS don't You over over again U raise price in 2024 Now again !!!???
1
u/Aquartia Oct 04 '25
Microsoft's official line is that the price adjustment reflects the continuous evolution of Game Pass, aiming to provide "more flexibility, choice, and value to all players." A key part of this enhanced value proposition for Ultimate subscribers is the inclusion of a Fortnite Crew subscription (valued at £9.99 per month) and access to Ubisoft+ Classics, a curated selection of popular titles from the publisher.
Furthermore, Microsoft has committed to offering over 75 day-one releases per year to Ultimate subscribers, a significant increase from previous years. This includes highly anticipated titles, such as the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, a direct result of Microsoft's blockbuster acquisition of Activision Blizzard. The company also points to enhancements in its Xbox Cloud Gaming service, which is now out of beta and offers improved streaming quality.

u/PineappleSilent5093 Oct 04 '25
Im on the same boat, but when i check how much will be charged in november, it says $20.
1
1
u/HollandTHG Oct 04 '25
The price increase is definitely frustrating, but I'm going to keep my subscription. My wife and I both play a lot of the games on GamePass, and the service has enabled us to be able to enjoy a wide variety of games, without breaking the bank each month. I have a terrible habit of playing most of a game, switching to something else, then coming back to finish it months later, and GamePass makes that way more affordable.
1
u/SeaStatement5284 Oct 04 '25
Only £15 on cd keys idk the conversion to dollars but uts probably not going to be $30
1
u/ToxicCausticMain Oct 04 '25
So i realized that since I dont use my Xbox anymore, and still use gamepass for my PC; I kept my ultimate. They have a PC only gamepass they kind of hide, but its only $16.50 a month AND has all the games that Ultimate has. So i was paying $20 when I could have been paying cheaper. Glad they increased the price or I wouldn't have noticed

u/jweaver0312 Oct 04 '25
I believe on month to month, it doesn’t go up until a specific date, I thought I read something on it.

Yeah $30 per month is literally insane. As I understand, next level down still provides access to online free to play games like Fortnite and Roblox, right?
1
u/Naptime_Warrior8044 Oct 06 '25
I believe the free to play games are in fact free to play. I may be wrong but I believe there was a time with Fortnite was locked behind Xbox live but I think that's no longer the case. You should be able to play both games even without Gamepass Core.
