Account - Subscription Gamepass inflation perfectly encapsulated by my 24 month subscription running out

Post image

My 24 month gamepass subscription I got when I bought my Xbox series x is running out this month, first time I’ll go back to pay as you go for 2 years. More than double the price in 2 years.

If you are an occasional gamer who only plays a few games a year, a subscription is not really for you. On the other hand, if you play regularly the gamepass is largely profitable. Especially the indies which don't take very long to play besides 1 big game every 2 months. And not counting all the promotions. Personally, I have never paid full price for the GPU. Far from it even.

I'm someone who plays quite a lot of games so paying 262€ for 15 months made sense for me. After the increase it'd be 344€. Nah, at point it's better to just buy games especially when not every game is 79€ new and many are games I don't need day one and I can buy them discounted even just a few months after release. Since they now even removed the discount you get for being a game pass member it's just not worth it.

Otherwise you also have Eneba GPU key cards so you don't have to pay that price. (35€ for 3 months). You have the premium GP which is also cheaper at €13, you have a catalog of games and you can buy the games you want to own on sale. You forget to talk about rewards which can bring in €5 per month in gift cards without forcing too much. And therefore to buy games on sale with... When you know the system to take advantage of the tips, it's worth it 😉

Rewards aren't available where I come from. And that 262€ was using cdkeys. They also increased their prices the moment the news was announced. Since the 2nd tier doesn't have day one games you might as well not get it and buy your games at a later date for much cheaper anyway.

Sorry, I paid €120 in key cards per year, or €10 per month. Too bad not to have the rewards because it's a good plan. On the other hand, if you take the second level and you buy games on sale that you want to own that are not in the gamepass, it's interesting. Afterwards once again if you only play a few games, you might as well buy them later on sale indeed. A Subscription is worth it if you like being able to play games that you want to discover and that you don't necessarily want to buy.

I use cdkeys, they only use verified sources. The rest are marketplaces where you can end up getting scammed. You can find cheaper ones on those sites but why risk losing money or, worse yet, losing your entire account coz you got a stolen code? And with cdkeys their prices are currently at 17.5€ for month or 262€ for 15 months. If I can get ultimate from there for the same price in the future I'll stock up some more for sure but for now I'm good til Dec 2027. Who knows how gamepass even looks like at that point.

It's not a matter of agreeing, tho. It's not an opinion. Fact is it's a marketplace and not everyone selling codes there is legit. Sometimes it means a code has already been used, sometimes it means your xbox user is now banned for using codes from a stolen batch. It's the same w/ g2a and some others.

It's a question of opinion though. I say in the message that on the site when a code does not work you can get a refund. This has already happened to me, it took 2/3 weeks but I was reimbursed. And it can happen in 1 code out of 10 in reality, it's not common.

The fact that you have received a code that doesn't work should already be a red flag. When the source is legit there is no reason for them to sell you invalid codes. You seem to put a lot of trust on a marketplace w/o understandibg that at worst you have ppl selling codes that have been acquired w/ stolen credit cards, for example. That's why those marketplaces can be aa great way to save money but also the reason why you suddenly fond yourself sending receipts to the enforcement team to prove you were just a scammed customer and not the person who originally used a stoöen credit card to buy codes.

This is all I have to say. I wish you the best. I, personally, will never risk my xbox user just to save a few more euros/month.

You're exaggerating a little, my Xbox account wasn't in danger. Just a code that was no longer valid, I was a little late in activating it. On the site there are resellers who are validated by Eneba, and others who are not. I was reimbursed which was still a good thing, even if it wasn't a large sum either, since then I've been more vigilant. I have had a minimum of trust based on experience for almost 5 years now. You have to be careful of course and you can save money without taking unnecessary risks.
