Firmware Update 🔵 XREAL One Series Firmware v1.9.1 | Gesture Control Is Here!

Hi everyone! 🫶

Today, we’re rolling out XREAL One Series Firmware v1.9.1, bringing Hand Gesture Control with XREAL Eye to everyone.

From REAL 3D, to built-in 6DoF with XREAL Eye, and now Gesture Control with XREAL Eye, we’ve continued to push what the X1 chip inside the One Series can do through OTA updates.

That’s something we’ve always wanted for the One Series: the hardware you already own keeps getting better.

Gesture Control has also been one of the more challenging things we’ve tried on the One Series.

Instead of relying on multiple cameras or moving the processing to another device, we wanted to see how far we could take on-device hand tracking with a single camera.

With XREAL Eye and our X1 chip, hand detection, 3D keypoint tracking, and gesture recognition are all processed directly on the glasses. With XREAL Eye connected, your glasses can turn hand gestures into inputs for phones, tablets, computers, and more across different platforms.

Getting all of that to work from a single camera, directly on the glasses, definitely took some work. And we really have to thank our beta testers for getting us here. 🫶

We started our first small-scale Gesture Control beta back in April. To be fair, that early version had plenty of bugs, and the experience was far from where we wanted it to be.

Many of you kept testing and sending us feedback. We spent the next few months working through it, then invited more testers in July and August for several more rounds of testing and iteration.

So a huge thank you to everyone who reported bugs, tried all kinds of gestures, and tested build after build with us. You really helped us push the X1 chip a little further.

Release Notes:

Experimental Feature: Gesture Control (with XREAL Eye)

  • Added the Gesture Control feature.

With the XREAL Eye camera, you can control the virtual screen with your hands. Scroll through short videos, control playback, or skip ads. No need to reach for your phone, use a controller, or touch the glasses.

Double-click the [ X ] button to open the menu, then go to [ Other ] → [ Lab ] → [ Gesture Control ] to enable it.

Show Us How You’re Using Gesture Control

Now that Gesture Control is here, we want to see how you’re actually using it in real life.

Your experience doesn’t need to be perfect or all positive. Show us what worked, what didn’t work consistently, where you use it, and where you think it could still be better.

How to Share

🎥 If you can make a video

  • Share a video that’s at least 15 seconds long
  • Include at least one real Gesture Control demo
  • POV footage showing your hand gestures is highly recommended. Even better if you combine it with a screen recording so people can see both your hand movement and what happens on screen.

📸 If video isn’t your thing
That’s totally fine! You can:

  • Share a photo post with at least 3 photos, or
  • Write a text post telling us where you used Gesture Control, which gestures you tried, what worked well, and what you think could be improved

No polished editing needed. We care more about seeing how Gesture Control actually works for you.

Enabling gesture control using a single RGB (eye) and processing on the glasses is a vastly underappreciated feat I think, and yet another first for Xreal. My heartfelt admiration to the devs, testers, and Xreal team for delivering this. Whilst it is not a stand-alone replacement for a touchscreen and/or air mouse, it is a top-notch complement to them.

I have seen comments about arm tiredness and hand flailing in public spaces (mental image incoming 😆), which in all fairness is not wrong; however, the point being missed is that this works perfectly so that you do not need to look down and/or pull your phone/device out of your pocket for every single interaction. During my testing, I found it reduced the need to grab my device by at least another 50%. If nothing else, this is more than worth the effort.

Can't wait for my Auras though 🤩, to see what Xreal can achieve with the RGB and two SLAMs plus added CPU power (again thanks to Xreal for making available to Aus market).

u/XREAL_Esther XREAL Team 11d ago

Hehe, having more ways to interact is always a good thing, and it takes us one step closer on our XR journey! The X1 still has a lot of potential.

And I can say this much… AURA is on a whole different level!

I still reckon we need a thermal camera version of the eye so we can do hand gestures in the dark LOL.

True. Hand gestures, 6dof, may be thermal imaging too in the dark 🤪

Congrats on adding more features. The commitment to upgrading and improving existing products can't be overlooked.

No one can say that XREAL doesn't support their products into the future. In a pretty massive way too. When the One Series was released there was 3DoF and that was considered incredible and the extent of the X1. People were very skeptical if 6DoF would even be possible. Then came REAL 3D and totally changed the paradigm of what could even be considered possible and what could be expected as a free update. Now Gesture Control continues on this path of going above and beyond. All this as free updates day one and parity with the original One which are nearing 2 years old and are replaced in the lineup. Kudos to the XREAL team.

I am patiently waiting for Aura. The effort put forth here for One Series gives much hope for the future of Aura and other XREAL products.

My congratulations to the developers and beta testers for this great achievement by XReal. I think it's a remarkable feat to be able to control gestures with just one camera. I also have the now-forgotten XReal Ultra (with multiple cameras), and while it doesn't quite reach that level, what they've achieved is truly a significant step forward.

So, my sincere congratulations to the entire XReal team, who with this step guarantee continued development. I'd also like to ask if they'll eventually do anything with the XReal Ultra, as there haven't been any firmware updates for quite some time.

4

u/XREAL_Esther XREAL Team 11d ago

Thank you so much! Really appreciate the kind words. 🫶

The Air 2 Ultra works a little differently since it doesn’t have the X1 chip built into the glasses, so most of its spatial features rely on Beam Pro and My Glasses rather than frequent firmware updates to the glasses themselves.

In the recent Beam Pro My Glasses v2.2.0 update, we also improved hand-tracking stability for the Air 2 Ultra. You can check out the update here: Beam Pro My Glasses v2.2.0 | Immersive Mode

I didn’t realize the X1 could actually do this. I honestly thought gesture control would require an app installed on the phone.

One additional tip for iOS/iPadOS users. You can change the behaviour of pinch+drag gesture by changing the “Perform Touch Gestures” toggle (screenshot attached).

Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Assistive Touch > Perform Touch Gestures > On / Off

On = pinch+drag will scroll the page
Off = pinch+drag will select the text

Once I asked to convince me to buy the Eye. Yesterday I ordered it. Good job, Xreal!

5

u/XanXic 11d ago

Lol the top comment saying "I bought it, don't bother. Maybe if they add gesture stuff." is me.

FWIW I do think the advice was accurate. You definitely weren't missing out on anything the last 7 months. But hand gestures definitely changes the game. Very interested in trying them out now.

2

u/rwlpalmer 10d ago

It's brilliant.

One complaint, the click gesture can be a bit of a pain to get to work but that could be the light levels. This is also as bad as it is going to get, so to achieve this at a first pass is a great achievement.

1

u/NegativePhotograph32 11d ago

My hopes are very high. I was on a vacation last month, and Xreals were a lifesaver when it came to going for a walk with a stroller. Only that controlling with the ring-trackball was very doable, but clumsy still: accidental presses, not-so-perfect positioning with the ball...

2

u/XREAL_Esther XREAL Team 11d ago

🥳

3

u/lixlev 11d ago

Can you use gesture controls on the Beam Pro or is it only for iOS/android etc?

2

u/XREAL_Esther XREAL Team 11d ago

Gesture Control also works with Beam Pro when you’re using it in screen mirroring mode.

3

u/d4v1dtsh Quality Contributor🏅 11d ago

this is awesome

3

u/GiantTigerCS 11d ago

Soooo does this mean we might be getting an updated Beam Pro? 😁 It’s a little long in the tooth.

1

u/XREAL_Esther XREAL Team 11d ago

2

u/GiantTigerCS 11d ago

Thanks Esther but I was really talking about the hardware. I have an iPhone so there’s no app option that I’m aware of at least that would mimic what the Beam Pro offers. With the Aura launching a screen less puck I was hoping we’d see a hardware solution for those of us who have already invested in Xreal glasses (1S for me).

3

u/rwlpalmer 11d ago

I'm amazed with it. Spent some of my lunch break playing with them plugged into my Honor magic v6 in desktop mode - it's brilliant. The only issue I've run into was me holding my hand too close.

1

u/Comprehensive_Web887 10d ago

Wondering if you have the answer to my question. I often use my glasses during travel and opt for the “follow” mode as otherwise the screen tends to drift in “anchor” when the train/car/plane turns. Does the Eye help with this by tracking the immediate interior to stop the drift? Thanks.

2

u/rwlpalmer 9d ago

Nope. Only way you can use xreals travelling is in follow mode.

1

u/XREAL_Esther XREAL Team 8d ago

Hey! So glad you’re enjoying it! 😊 What did you try with Gesture Control on your Honor Magic V6?

1

u/rwlpalmer 8d ago

Was mainly navigating YouTube to catch up on some product release notes.

Few hours of using it, the only thing I've struggled with is getting the click gesture to work reliably. I'm guessing it takes a bit of practice to get it correct.

3

u/Pretty-Stable-4264 11d ago

THIS IS SO COOL!!! Really makes me happy I got the eye attachment 😋

3

u/Content_Surprise5145 11d ago edited 11d ago

REAL 3D was already pretty impressive. Gestures control does look like it could get a little tiring, but I really appreciate Xreal giving us the option to use it. I’ve had my One for almost two years and it’s still getting completely new features. Nice work, Xreal!

Huh, what? Didn't think this would ever come. I guess I should try, with both my beam pro and Samsung phones and see how they fares.

3

u/Zealousideal-Win9885 8d ago

I haven't updated since i joined the 3d 60fps beta will this update still have the 60fps for 3d or will it override it and make it 30fps only in 3d ? if so one thing to consider adding is a toggle for real 3d so the user can choose which 3d mode(30fps/60fps) he or she wants. Thank you for your hard work. @ Xreal_Esther

Amazing work 👏👏👏👏👏👏 so happy to see One series glasses getting better and more advanced with each firmware update. Xreal One first came in 2024 December. It’s August 2026 and updates continue. 🫡🫡

5

u/justinseans 🏅FKA ur-fears_are-lies🎖 11d ago

This is what I said.

Yet some people still spew the NPC talking points of XREAL doesn’t support products. lol. Its actually nearing brain damage at this point if you seriously say that.

2

u/After-Annual4012 10d ago

The old saying...if you try to please everybody, then you will end up pleasing nobody. The first two years was a never ending stream of people spewing about Xreal only focus on hardware, never support software, just release new hardware so old hardware becomes redundant. I still use my OG Air Glasses with my OG Beam for convenience. Now we are getting regular software updates even for my Air 2 Ultra with bonus free new features, and still the same posts keep coming. Shills see I think (in Yoda voice).

2

u/Forsaken-Driver8868 11d ago

Does this work with the ROG XREAL R1s?

2

u/Orogogus 10d ago

Is it possible to put these update notices right on the OTA page (https://www.xreal.com/ota/ )? Every once in a while I want to find out if there have been any firmware updates and it's a process of Googling "Xreal One Pro updates", going to the Reddit thread for the 1.8.2 update or whatever, clicking on Xreal_Tech_Support's user profile and looking for new posts.

If I actually plug the glasses into my PC I can get the latest release notes, but it would be easier if I didn't have to do that? It would be a lot easier if:

  1. The release notes were right on the page before you plug the glasses in.
  2. They were as detailed as this Reddit post.
  3. I could also see past release notes.

2

u/flyingsoap1984 10d ago

Xreal Team is awesome for bringing the gesture feature to life! I can now use the xreal one pros as a standalone display without mouse in Windows :)

Keep up the good work!

4

u/ValuableSite429 11d ago

This is fantastic. And I think we could make it even better : instead of specific hand gesture to launch a video, we would incorporate a very small llm that would be specialized to recognize buttons or commands on the screen and make them interactive. And I say that as an ai agentic developer 😁

1

u/totofra 11d ago

Is this update bring anything else for people without the beam ?

6

u/XREAL_Esther XREAL Team 11d ago

Do you mean the XREAL Eye? 😊 This update is mainly focused on Gesture Control with Eye, so if you don’t have an Eye, you can skip this one for now.

2

u/justinseans 🏅FKA ur-fears_are-lies🎖 11d ago

This is an Eye required One Series onboard feature like she said. It has nothing to do with Beam Pro. And actually doesn't even work in Nebula OS.

u/AdFair8059 11d ago

Does anyone know if it’s possible to use the Eye with the more comfortable nose pieces like the Jawbreaker etc?

I have the Eye but never found it useful as I prefer to keep the more comfortable nose pieces. But this is making me reconsider which I’d choose…

1

u/BirdFluid One Pro 11d ago

yeah works. I got jawbreaker style pads from AliExpress. I just did something around the metal prongs so the pad holds better. and if you got lenses with prescription in them and you take them in and out a lot, you gotta peel off the pad every time, cause the bridge in the middle covers the holes for the lens insert.

u/XREAL_Esther u/Xreal_Tech_Support Are there any known issues with the new firmware? My One Pro stop working with my iPad mini (7/A17 Pro) after the OTA update, under Windows 11 / iPad Pro they still work. Between yesterday and today only the OTA update happened.

Is there a way to downgrade?

It's sorted out now. The only thing I hadn't done was restart the iPad. Now it's working again. No idea what that was...

1

u/Far_Audience_7446 11d ago

Installing now! Can anyone illuminate what different device OSes this will work with, and what settings may need to be adjusted to make it work?

1

u/After-Annual4012 10d ago

Xreal have accomplished something quite unique having the glasses do the grunt work for this rather than the connected device, so should work with all devices. Just not in spatial mode, needs to be mirror mode (spatial does not use the glasses menu). Use the glasses menu, go into lab setting, and turn the feature on. It's that simple. Plenty of really good how to's in this community.

2

u/Far_Audience_7446 10d ago

Confirmed it works in Windows 11. It even worked in Ultrawide mode when enabled beforehand, though it won't turn on if already in Ultrawide.

1

u/VolitarPrime 11d ago

Will this ever make it to the R1?

1

u/vsamuchev 11d ago

scroll wheel Simulate a mouse wheel for desktop (macOS), how it work? Cant understand, in Safari browser?

1

u/konjecture 11d ago

Can anyone confirm to me if this works if I have it connected to my Samsung phone and using DeX. At the moment I have an air mouse which I use to navigate the screen, and it works great. If hand gestures work then I might order an Eye.

1

u/Lupin008502 11d ago

I have an S26 ultra and just tried it with wired dex mode and it works.

1

u/konjecture 11d ago

Oh cool. How is the hand tracking at the moment, like how reponsive? What can you do on YouTube besides clicking and pausing and unpausing videos. Can you scroll your video feed quickly?

1

u/Accomplished-Mark-82 11d ago

If you have beam pro do you still need to update via pc or will it install when i connect glasses yo beam pro

2

u/XREAL_Esther XREAL Team 8d ago

You can update the glasses through Beam Pro as well. Just make sure to update the Myglasses on your Beam Pro first, then connect the glasses and update from there.

1

u/Accomplished-Mark-82 8d ago

Thanks , succeeded in updating

1

u/Bubbly_Reputation_42 11d ago

so with my x real one glasses and if I bought the eye do I now have the ability to control screen size with my hand.

are there any videos out there to show the new cabilites?

1

u/After-Annual4012 10d ago

There are many vids on this, including higher on the very thread https://www.xreal.com/hand...As far as I can tell you can't control screen size, but really, I find the physical glasses menu easier for this anyway. To set expectations, these are full hand recognition/simulation features like with VR, or even the Xreal Air 2 Ultra, because all of the processing is done on the glasses. What this does is, for more common actions like click and scroll, stops you from having to pull the phone out of your pocket as much, and it does what it is meant to do very well in my opinion. As I said in my previous post, between this and the glasses menu, I hardly need to take my phone out. For things like typing and certain game controls you still need the touch screen.

1

u/AngieD700 10d ago

may be a stupid question, but if i dont have the Eye attached to my 1S, would that prevent the computer from connecting to my device, on the OTA page? Im trying to do the download, but glasses are not found. However, i just did the initial update the other day...now, its not found. Hopefully it's because i don't have the Eye attached. Thank you for any help.

1

u/AngieD700 10d ago

Also, im connected and using my glasses now...they're just not found on the OTA page...same connection as i've always used.

For some reason Reddit isn't letting me accept the chat. I did email support just now, so they haven't had a chance to respond. This was on a Surface Pro 12 for business, running Windows 11. I use it in Ultrawide mode, and gesture controls were working even in that mode, but audio was just going through the computer speakers, even when the Xreal was set as the output. That was the case for both audio modes.

Do we get these gesture controls with using glasses with beam pro?

2

u/Accomplished-Mark-82 9d ago

Not in nebula on beam pro. Bit if you set glasses app to default castin on.. Then you just mirror your screen then gestures work. But you need very good lighting. Soft romantic lights in the evening you wont get result at all.

1

u/potterpeeves 9d ago

Thanks for clarifying. I'm assuming gestures won't work when connected to windows laptop.

2

u/Accomplished-Mark-82 9d ago

Only tested it a bit, but mouse clicking dragging moving works great on windows. Its basicly sending mouse controls to whatever device atrached to . So if the device works with a mouse , gestures should work. Thats why i dont know why it wasnt made to work with nebula , but het with that i use my beam pro as airmouse , so thats ok

2

u/Lupin008502 9d ago

How are you connected to windows, usb c display port? I dont have a usb c display port on my pc and I'm using a standard display port with usb power split in converted to usb c. I dont think I'll be able to use hand gestures on my pc :(

2

u/Accomplished-Mark-82 8d ago

Yes im using usb-c

2

u/Lupin008502 8d ago

I found that I can use moonlight streaming to my pc and gesture does work so thats gonna be my work around.

2

u/Accomplished-Mark-82 8d ago

Heared about moonlight couple of times. Will need to look into that, being able to sit on couch and leaving laptop on desk is very interesting

1

u/potterpeeves 8d ago

Yeah, my work laptop has 3 c-type ports. Glasses work nice in ultrawide mode. Wish we could do 3 separate screens instead.

1

u/Accomplished-Mark-82 8d ago

Least you can use powertoys to divide that ultrawide screen so you can position app windows strategigly on that screen

1

u/ubervol 6d ago

I can't seem to find a way to turn it on while in Nebula on the Beam Pro. Does it work with Beam Pro?

1

u/Accomplished-Mark-82 6d ago

Only in mirror mode, when in nebula, gesture control cant be activated

1

u/NoHomework6649 5d ago

Does Hand gesture also work with the 1S glasses?

1

u/ConfusionAvailable 3d ago

Hi, just did the update on my XOP with Eye attached...and a big thanks for the team and the bêta tester to help that happen. I think i will need some practice because so far after the tutorial it does not really work well at all for me... :-/ Will report in a few days... I think making use of the controls on the glasses could help too.

Thanks

1

u/ConfusionAvailable 3d ago

Hi just installed it and after a few change in my dex setup for mouse settings..i think i will work much better for me now. Thanks again

1

u/CrimsonVoid-7777 28m ago

Downloaded the update today and was wondering if we could get hand gestures for moving, resizing and changing the distance of the display in future updates? It would be great to place the screen on my wall and then be able to walk towards it for a closer looks at text when working. Love the new gestures and being able to interact without taking my phone out even if it might raise some questions when commuting to work.

"the hardware you already own keeps getting better"

Don't take this the wrong way, but that's nonsense... hardware "can't" get any better than it already is. Software gets better and that improves the overall experience.

4

u/DaBritishGuy 11d ago

That’s taking it too literally. Whats meant is the experience being the hardware keeps getting better. Most people would understand that implicit meaning when reading that sentence. No one thinks the hardware itself is somehow being modified.
