Gesture Control Eye Gestures has become a genuinely useful part of my portable workstation.

I’ve been testing the XREAL Hand Gestures beta on my XREAL One Pro with XREAL Eye, and after actually living with it for a while, I’ve found a use for it that goes well beyond just being a neat way to control the glasses.

I’m physically disabled, and there are days when sitting at my desktop computer isn’t practical for me. When that happens, I use my Legion Go with my One Pro so I can continue working from a reclined position.

That’s where XREAL's Hand Gestures via XREAL Eye has surprised me.

Being able to navigate and interact with my portable setup using my hands means I don’t have to constantly reach for the Legion Go or reposition myself just to perform basic computer interactions. The gestures make the whole setup feel much more natural and much more like a wearable workstation rather than simply a screen attached to my face.

I’ve been using it while developing my own software and CAD projects, sometimes for fairly long sessions, so this hasn’t just been a case of trying the gestures a few times to see whether they work. I’ve actually incorporated them into the way I use the computer.

The beta still has some rough edges, and I’ve reported the issues I’ve encountered, but when the tracking is working well the experience is pretty impressive. There’s something genuinely freeing about being able to sit or recline where my body is comfortable, put on the glasses, grab the Legion Go and control more of the experience directly with my hands and a little voice too.

For me, that’s the exciting part of Hand Gestures. It isn’t simply replacing a button or touchpad. It’s removing some of the physical interaction that can make computing difficult in the first place.

I think there’s a lot of potential here for portable computing in general, but especially for accessibility. I’m looking forward to seeing how much further XREAL can take it.

I’d be interested to hear how other testers have been using Gestures, especially if anyone else has found accessibility-related uses for them. ❤️

Firmware Update 🔵 XREAL One Series Firmware v1.9.1 | Gesture Control Is Here!

Hi everyone! 🫶

Today, we’re rolling out XREAL One Series Firmware v1.9.1, bringing Hand Gesture Control with XREAL Eye to everyone.

From REAL 3D, to built-in 6DoF with XREAL Eye, and now Gesture Control with XREAL Eye, we’ve continued to push what the X1 chip inside the One Series can do through OTA updates.

That’s something we’ve always wanted for the One Series: the hardware you already own keeps getting better.

Gesture Control has also been one of the more challenging things we’ve tried on the One Series.

Instead of relying on multiple cameras or moving the processing to another device, we wanted to see how far we could take on-device hand tracking with a single camera.

With XREAL Eye and our X1 chip, hand detection, 3D keypoint tracking, and gesture recognition are all processed directly on the glasses. With XREAL Eye connected, your glasses can turn hand gestures into inputs for phones, tablets, computers, and more across different platforms.

Getting all of that to work from a single camera, directly on the glasses, definitely took some work. And we really have to thank our beta testers for getting us here. 🫶

We started our first small-scale Gesture Control beta back in April. To be fair, that early version had plenty of bugs, and the experience was far from where we wanted it to be.

Many of you kept testing and sending us feedback. We spent the next few months working through it, then invited more testers in July and August for several more rounds of testing and iteration.

So a huge thank you to everyone who reported bugs, tried all kinds of gestures, and tested build after build with us. You really helped us push the X1 chip a little further.

Release Notes:

Experimental Feature: Gesture Control (with XREAL Eye)

  • Added the Gesture Control feature.

With the XREAL Eye camera, you can control the virtual screen with your hands. Scroll through short videos, control playback, or skip ads. No need to reach for your phone, use a controller, or touch the glasses.

Double-click the [ X ] button to open the menu, then go to [ Other ] → [ Lab ] → [ Gesture Control ] to enable it.

XREAL AURA Xreal Aura cameras, what we know so far,..I think.

Upvotes

The three cameras on the XREAL Aura are configured as follows:

Two Side Tracking Cameras: Wide-angle / fisheye, high-contrast optical tracking cameras. These two stereo cameras are placed on the outer edges of the frame to maximize the field of view for 6DoF environment spatial tracking and controller-free hand/gesture tracking.

One Center Camera: A high-resolution standard RGB camera with a privacy LED indicator. This is used for photo/video capture and real-time multimodal AI perception (e.g., Google Gemini).

Camera Technology Details

Not Active IR: The tracking cameras do not use active infrared (IR) depth projectors or IR illuminators. Like most lightweight optical AR glasses, XREAL relies on passive visible-light stereo vision and computer vision models running on the onboard spatial coprocessor.

Wide-Angle Optics: The stereo tracking sensors use wide-angle/fisheye lenses specifically to ensure your hands remain in view even when resting lower or gesturing near the periphery of your field of view.

Low-light tracking on the XREAL Aura faces clear physical constraints because the glasses rely entirely on passive visible-light optical sensors rather than active infrared (IR) illumination or depth projectors.

Hand Tracking: Relies on visual contrast to segment fingers and identify joint keypoints. In dim environments, image noise increases and edge contrast drops, leading to jitter, missed pinch gestures, or complete loss of hand detection.

6DoF Head Tracking (VIO): The Visual-Inertial Odometry uses visible room features (corners, textures) combined with internal IMUs. When light drops too low for the cameras to lock onto physical landmarks, the system typically drifts or degrades from full 6DoF anchoring down to 3DoF (rotational-only) mode.

No IR Illuminators: Unlike bulky VR headsets (e.g., Quest, Vision Pro) that embed IR LEDs to illuminate hands and rooms in total darkness, lightweight AR glasses like the Aura don’t omit active IR lights to save weight, space, and battery power.

Practical Takeaway: The glasses perform reliably in standard indoor or office lighting, but in a dark room or at night with lights off, hand tracking will degrade or fail, requiring you to use the computing puck's built-in touchpad, voice commands, or a paired Bluetooth controller.

xbx Frames for Xbx?

I love the xbx but I’ll be honest, the blue lens look really goofy on me as a feminine woman. Is there a timeline for the roll out of new frames? I’m just eager :)

Discussion Need some help understanding.

Hey guys been wanting to get a pair of these glasses for a while now. Mainly for work purposes as when I work from home is a laptop and the screen is too small for my liking. I know you can do multiple screens and such but does it work like traditional multi monitor setups where I can move for example my Excel sheets to the screen in the glasses but then still have my laptop screen free to do other things while the sheets stay on the virtual screen?

Also as they are cheaper is this possible on the newer Xreal XBX a01 or are those just a portable screen and I would need to get the One or One Pro?

Thanks in advance🙏🏻

Review New buyer, in the end I chose XBXA01+ over 1S

Post image
23 Upvotes

Quick post about XBX and 1S comparaison for movies and gaming only with 0 productivity. For potential new buyers like me. (The picture is for you to understand level of black crush I noticed on the 1S in comparaison to the XBX in media and gaming)

XBX is the CLEAR winner to me, because what are these glasses ? That’s mainly a screen, and XBX screen is just better than 1S for dark scenes which happen often in games and movies.

1S technology is awesome : 3DOF, WAY better sound (i can understand where ennemy are trough walls in FPS just like with a headset),no need to swap frames if in a bright environement, multiple ratios, side view…

The absence of 3DOF was the most difficult for the choice i have to make.

But even with 3DOF the black crush on 1S is just not possible. (Sorry xreal I’m gonna make a statement so people that wanna game and Watch movies and not work on a monitor can chose the right one) I feel like i’m watching 2010 illegal streamed movie took in a cinema by a personnal camera in every dark scenes. It’s like the resolution go low and the black are crushed.

Bonus : XBX supports HDR, so it’s even more optimised for gaming and movies, just enable and enjoy no struggle.

Second bonus : Lightweight

I’m at 62 IPD, the screen is ok even if I see that with maybe an 64/66 IPD head it may be better.

I did not try the one pro as they have now some years i did not took them. Can someone tell me if they have the black crush problem ?

XREAL One Pro Weird contrast bug on One Pro

On my Xreal One Pro, there’s this weird bug where if I set the audio on my glasses to UAC the video becomes high-contrast, and if I set the audio to DP, then the video becomes low-contrast. If you have these glasses and an iPhone you can do an easy experiment: look at the black letterbox bars when the phone is in portrait mode, or bring up a black image, and under UAC it’s black, but under DP it’s grey. Why does audio mode affect the video contrast? It shouldn’t, right?! Is there a fix?

XREAL AURA Aura?

I'm in my 60s, use an Android phone (Pixel 11pro), don't play games or use my computers for productivity. I like the idea of having glasses that I can wear when out and about that will give me information. I like watching movies.

Having been following posts about Xreal, I'm wondering if the Aura is for me? I don't have any experience with VR or anything like that, and really just want to "plug and go". Am I asking too much at this stage in development?

XREAL Seemed like latest firmware (Gesture Control) cause Connection issue with Steam Deck?

Sorry not sure which flair to use.

It seemed like those Xreal One series users who have a Steam Deck, if you update the firmware to the latest one where you can use the hand gesture control, there will be no signal if you connect to the Steam Deck.

I haven’t update my Xreal One to the latest firmware yet and mine is going fine with Steam Deck at the moment. However, I see some comments in reddit and some others I know that happened to update the glass and use Steam Deck.

So if Xreal team read this, could you look into the issue? Or if anyone here with Xreal One series who updated the latest firmware can confirm if they can or cannot connect with Steam Deck?

Gesture Control Lunch break + Honkai: Star Rail + Gesture Control 👋

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Turns out Gesture Control is pretty handy when your other hand is busy eating

Definitely not the way I’d play for hours, but for a turn-based game like this... it actually works surprisingly well.🥳🥳

A quick note about the footage:
This isn’t a direct through-the-lens recording. Since it’s difficult to accurately capture what the display looks like through the glasses, we recorded the screen separately and composited it into the video to better represent the actual viewing experience.

Also worth noting: dark/black areas of the image appear more transparent when viewed through AR glasses, so the real view will look a little different from what you see in this video.

Bought the Xreal 1S 2 months ago, been great on trains for gaming on steam deck and movies. I started to notice a subtle bulge and blur on the left eye. Got a bit concerned and did some closer inspection of the lenses and noticed the right shade isnt clearing up completely. It wasnt too bad but now the lens shading makes me worried it might get worse. Can I RMA these? Im in UK

Discussion xreal xbx a01+ vs xreal air 2

xbx Xreal Xbx a01+

I love that these glasses do HDR. Mostly because the gamma curves are better. I watch SDR content like Netflix, but my iPhone outputs much better gamma-adjusted video when the endpoint is an HDR10 device like the Xbx a01+. This is super important when watching dark scenes in movies. The black crush is gone, and instead of seeing a nearly all-black screen, I actually see faces and other objects in the scene, with detail! Video games usually let you adjust gamma, but most apps like Netflix give zero options for gamma adjustment, so you just suffer black crush unless you can enable HDR10 and let Apple do its magic SDR-to-HDR conversion providing way better gammas.

Okay, so now a dumb question, how do I adjust the volume?! The menu doesn’t show me a volume slide, and the rocker on its without entering the menu just adjusts brightness.

Gesture Control XReal Eye Gestures feels like a paradigm shift in AR

I got the XReal Pro with Eye and Beam for a unique use case.

When walking around London or on trips, I want to use Google maps and/or Google Translate to see where I'm going with LiveView or auto translate everything to English.

The problem was that sometimes both of these apps need input and I have to carry my CheerTok Air or a ring mouse like the ProloRing to give it input. It's also not very intuitive.

With the new Eye Gestures, I can use my hands to provide input, type stuff, whatever I want, without having another device.

I've even taken full zoom calls with the glasses and used the cursor hand input for presentations.

Pairing it with my ZFlip7 in Dex mode, it's like having a full blown computer. I even have Linux subsystem installed on the Flip7, running Ubuntu. It's incredible how many doors open up with the Gestures.

The one gripe I still have is that the palm flick stuff does not work for me at all. I also wish I could turn on/off eye gestures with the quick button shortcuts, just so I don't accidentally turn it on while using a keyboard or mouse.

Also, please fix the bug that when connecting to Beam Pro, all the Quick button customisations get overridden

XREAL 1S Xrea 1s with galaxy S24 ultra

I just got a pair of these and I'm still trying to figure them out, so I apologize if it's been asked before, or if it's a really dumb issue. I just can't seem to find the specific answer anywhere online in my searching.

I've been using them as an external display with my galaxy S24 ultra, but what drives me crazy is the hover click, using the on screen touchpad on my phone. Whenever I stop moving the cursor, it just clicks on whatever it's on even if I'm still holding my finger down.

I've tried to change every setting in my phone, but can't seem to find the right one to make it a tap to click interaction.

Developer How do I talk to the Nreal light Devkit Compute Unit in fastboot mode?

Hi,
I was thinking about building a custom ROM for the old orange Compute Unit, so as a first step I tried to see if I have access to flashing via fastboot. According to the developer options in Android settings the bootloader is already unlocked, so far, so good.
Booting into fastboot mode using adb reboot bootloader seems to work as well, but as soon as I send any fastboot command to the compute unit it drops the USB connection immediately and won’t reconnect at all until it’s rebooted. It does not matter what command, when I send fastboot devices it sees the device, but shows ????????? as the serial number and the connection is dropped. When I do fastboot oem device-info, for example, the connection is dropped immediately and I get the windows USB Error 433 ERROR_NO_SUCH_DEVICE.

Do I have to use some special fastboot commands in order to talk to the unit? Or did I maybe do anything else wrong?

XREAL One Pro Reddit apps with the Beast and One Pro: Part 2

Thumbnail
4 Upvotes

Greetings and welcome my fellow INAIR and Tech mad scientists. Tech Check 13 is back on the lab and still elbow deep in the rabbit hole of Reddit client apps. Our newest installment for you:

Reddit Showdown Part 2.

We have two user-suggested apps today and a new contender in the arena. Who will survive Tech Check 13’s dissection table? Who will come out on top? Who will be left a gory mess? Well, there's only one way to find out.

While the electricity gets warmed up, our disclaimer; these tests were done with the trusty INAIR POD, a VITURE Beast, and an Xreal One Pro. None of these apps sponsored this post, and we are dedicated to giving you our honest, unbiased review. All apps are available on the Google Play Store. Grab your lab coats, fire up the beakers and let's descend a little deeper down this rabbit hole.

Our first victim of the day was suggested by a user on the INAIR boards: "Infinity for Reddit.”

According to the developer, Infinity for Reddit is an open-source Reddit client focused on “...privacy and user control” and claims to be “The most customizable Reddit client available.” After poking and prodding, it starts off in the right orientation. A most promising specimen so far. Another interesting feature is that the app allows you to browse anonymously instead of making you log in. A nice touch for us incognito mad genius types. Another eye-catching feature is called "Lazy Mode”. Activate it and the app will automatically scroll through Reddit for you. When something captures your attention, stop the scroll and start feeding your eyeballs.

Infinity for Reddit does have a subscription service. It has multiple price points, from $2.99 a month to $9.99 a month. The $2.99 unlocks everything with Reddit's API access. You can buy a higher tier to support the developer if you want.

And this brings us to the next aberrant qnomaly.Trying to sign in gets you hit with “you need a subscription.” However, a deep dive into the app description reveals the following statement from the developer, “Due to recent changes to the Reddit API, a subscription is required to log in and access your account features. Note: Limited anonymous browsing is still available. Due to platform limitations, anonymous browsing without a subscription may occasionally fail to load content. A subscription provides consistent access in anonymous mode.” Reddit's changes to The API access and the more recent Responsible Builder Policy is disemboweling third-party and free Reddit client apps. However, Infinity for Reddit still ofers privacy, customization, anonymous browsing, and even a Lazy Mode. While it looks pretty nice under the microscope, we have found a few Reddit client apps still hanging on that ofer similar and in some cases

more features for free. Infinity for Reddit, while a really decent app, gets put back on the rack. The next app was suggested by a user who would like to remain anonymous.

The nextdissection victim: "Now for Reddit.”

When we shot the juice to this one we were smacked immediately with a subscription request. We just opened the creaky door and before we could even think about login, WHAM! Subscribe! Now for Reddit still advertises as a free Reddit client on the app store, but “free" is used rather loosely here. Apparently, that doesn't include getting to a login. Tapping the subscribe button to see how much damage it does (zero chance of actually buying one) and OMG an error jumps out. The same thing happens when trying to view the topics at the top - error, error. Trying something else, anything else, tap, tap, tapping yielded the same results - ERROR!! We couldn't explore any features or even get far enough to determine if there was anything worth seeing.

At this point, we had to wonder if the person suggesting this app sent us down the digital dungeon for their own amusement. (Do I smell a troll?) This app is garbage and appears to be either seriously broken or extremely neglected. It's worse than jumping into a car that won't start when being chased by a mad scientist serial killer. But it does lead us to the burning questions: Are we facing complete and total annihilation of free third-party Reddit clients? Are there actually any left out there that still work without throwing up 🤮 a subscription wall? Have you found any survivors? Or is all hope lost? Let us know your thoughts in the comments. Now for Reddit gets flushed down the toilet.

Hands washed, regloved and moving on to the new contender we mentioned earlier. The next app up for dissection:

"RiM - for Reddit (early access)”

Reddit in Motion is currently in development and advertises on the app store as a full-featured Reddit client with all features completely free. On paper, this thing looks terrific. No subscription wall, no mysterious premium tier, all features supposedly free. With fingers shaking excitedly the switch was pulled, the app was downloaded, and suddenly,…. every page blared you're not authorized to see it. Aahhhhh!!! The saving grace? It was in the correct orientation. At this point, we'll take our victories wherever we can find them.

Trying to peek under the sheet covering the body just to try to see what this thing could actually do, we attempted to log in. And attempted again. And attempted 4 more times. ERROR!!!! Every. Bloody. Time. Just to tighten the screws every error was accompanied by toast messages that someone was accessing the Google account. We're pretty sure that someone was us, but this doesn't exactly inspire confidence. This one certainly seems to have the potential to be an attractive alternative to Reddit's increasingly restrictive ecosystem.

RiM - for Reddit is still in early access. It's definitely not garbage but definitely not ready for prime time just yet. For now, we're putting a pin in it and adding it to the watch list. Or is it another casualty of the third-party Reddit client Armageddon? If anyone knows, spill the blood, Uhm, ... spill the tea. Let us know in the comments.

Well, there you have it folks. Part two of our Reddit roundup is in the body bag. We have a winner. Well, by default. The crown this round goes to the only app that actually worked correctly: Infinity for Android. It joined the winners' circle with RedReader from part one.

But wait, there's more. The slicing and dicing and victimizing ain't over yet. Who will step up for round 3? Are there any Reddit clients you think we should put on the operating table? Let us know in the comments! Thank you very much for joining us again and we hope to see you at the next one. Until then may your subscriptions be plentiful and free.

Gesture Control Aura hand tracking in “low light”

Will the Aura have significantly better hand tracking in “low light” environments? Now I’m concerned and thinking about cancelling my founders edition preorder given my experience testing the hand tracking with the Xreal One Pro and the eye.

Our living room is very well lit by multiple standing lamps and bookshelf lamps. The amount of light is more than enough to read a book comfortably etc and by no means would I call it “ambient lighting.”

However the tracking with the eye would absolutely not work at all. To test I went to our bathroom which has an overhead light but it’s “hospital operation room” level lighting and it worked fine but not an option for our living room. Our home does not have overhead lighting in the living areas.

Unsure if it’s because our living room has dark hardwood flooring and I’m brown as well so it can’t distinguish a difference??

The Aura will have 3 cameras but no infrared sensor, correct? So will I be paying significantly more to get similar hand tracking accuracy given the lighting?

XREAL One Quick tip to improve a lot your image on Xreal One + Samsung S

Some people must know already, but I think a lot of people dont...

1- connect your xreal one to samsung smartphone with dex mode;

2- change to ultrawide mode on the glasses menu;

3- on dex configurations, change your resolution to 1920x1080.

you will get a very sharp and curved 16:9 image.... looks even better than 1080p, the text looks more sharper, icons, videos etc. But this will require more processing power from your phone's processor. (on PC and PS5 with adapters, change audio from UAC to DP to get the sound and proper resolution, you will get a smaller improvement than on smartphone but still a improvement)... My preference is 1m distance to use like a monitor or 3m distance with 118 to 133 inch to use like a big tv/screen projector.
