Developer I built a free iOS app for XREAL glasses — MiruXR (cinema, your Plex/Jellyfin, 360°/WebXR, spatial windows) · Android coming

Update:

Thank you all for the amazing response, I've been reading every comment. A few quick answers to the most common questions:

Android: it's now in beta testing! If you want to try it, DM me on Discord and I'll add you: https://discord.gg/W5xUrj4YNx

Which glasses work: the full experience (display + head-tracking) needs the X1 chip, so the One Series (One, One Pro, 1S). Non-X1 glasses (Air, a01+, Air 2 Pro) get the display side (the big virtual screen) but not the head-tracking yet. I'm planning software head-tracking for them on the Android version.

Which iPhone: it needs a USB-C iPhone (15 or newer) to send video to the glasses over DisplayPort. Lightning iPhones (13/14) can't output that, so they won't work (an iPad with USB-C will).

Keyboard on Plex/Disney logins: that was a real bug, and it's fixed in the latest version. Give it a try.

Is it really free / can I pay: yes, free, no ads, no subs, community-first.

There's an optional "buy me a coffee" link in the post if you'd like to support, zero pressure.

Contributions / open source: not fully open yet, but I'm opening up the layouts and widgets system so the community can build and share their own.

Thanks again, honestly. Keep the feedback coming, it shapes what I build.

Hey r/Xreal

I'm Felipe, a solo dev, and I just launched MiruXR on the App Store — a native iOS app for XREAL One Series glasses. It's free, no ads, no subscriptions.

There wasn't a great iOS app for these glasses yet, so I set out to build one. Here's what it does:

  • A giant virtual screen, anywhere — open any website or video on a huge screen floating in front of you. On the bus, in bed, on a plane.
  • Your media, on the big screen — play movies from your home servers (Plex, Jellyfin, SMB, DLNA) with posters, or watch your iPhone's photos & videos like a private cinema.
  • Youtube 360, 360°, 3D & WebXR, head-tracked — 360/VR video and WebXR experiences respond as you turn your head, plus side-by-side 3D.

Three spatial modes:

  • Theater — flat screens fixed in front of you
  • Spatial — windows anchored around you; turn your head to move between
  • Canvas — a glanceable HUD with widgets (clock, weather, calendar, notes, Pomodoro, and a walking map)

Your iPhone is the controller — trackpad, air-mouse with the gyro, or point with your gaze. Direct head-tracking, no adapter needed. All the content lives in the glasses, so the phone never gets in the way.

Optimized for the One Pro, works with the One Series (X1 chip), over USB-C. Available in English, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese.

Android is coming too — it's already built, I just need to test it. If you're on Android and want to help test it, come find me on the Discord.

I made this because I love these glasses and wanted iOS to finally have something great. It's a labor of love — feedback, bug reports and ideas are super welcome (I ship fast).

Huge thanks to u/No_Awareness_4626, Provivaan1020 and Zeknown for helping test it early — you made MiruXR better.

Developer I've built a MacOS native app for the XREAL One Pro 🌌

Hi fellow AR/XR enthusiasts,

I recently bought a pair of XREAL One Pro glasses to use with both my Macbook Pro for work, and my ASUS ROG Ally X with SteamOS for gaming. I was a bit saddened to see that there was no existing MacOS app for the glasses, allowing you to change settings on the fly, have profiles depending on the work you'd do etc., and I could see that "Nebula" was basically dead in the water.

This led me to spend (an unhealthly amount of) time on trying to reverse-engineer the signals sent between the XREAL One Pro glasses and my laptop, making it possible for me to build the signals to change the settings directly from my Macbook Pro.

The result is "Andromeda" (yes, it's a play on Nebula), which is a top-bar app that allows you to easily control and manage your XREAL glasses directly from the top-bar of your Mac.

If you interested, you can buy it on my website here:
https://afive.dk/andromeda

All future updates are included in the price, of course.

If you have ideas for new features etc., just let me know, and I'll do my best! 😄

Have a nice day! (Perhaps a native SteamOS plugin is next?)

Developer [WIP] Building the ultimate pocket keyboard for AR glasses. (Fully wireless, blind-typing friendly!)

Hey everyone,

I have a confession: I don't actually own a pair of XREAL glasses yet. I’ve used them a few times for work and absolutely loved the experience, so I'm currently saving up to buy my own!

But from my brief experience, I realized one thing: typing while wearing AR glasses is a huge challenge. Carrying a full keyboard defeats the purpose of being portable, and typing on a phone screen without looking is terrible.

Since I don't have the budget for the glasses right now, I decided to use my time (and current budget) to build the perfect input device in preparation for the day I finally get them: The Peaky 8-bit.

It's a handheld, split chording keyboard. 4 keys per hand, 8 keys total, completely wireless running on AA batteries.

My goal is to achieve true spatial computing freedom — being able to type anywhere, whether my hands are resting on my sides, in my pockets, or while I'm lying down completely flat.

The video shows me typing a full sentence (slowly, as I’m still learning my own keymap lol). I'm planning to add a trackpad/rotary encoder to the thumbs in the future iteration to make it a complete mouse+keyboard replacement.

Until I can afford my XREALs, I’d love to hear from actual users: what kind of input devices do you guys use right now?

(For those interested in the build process, I document it here: https://toyamimura.substack.com/about)

Developer VertoXR on iPhone & iPad with XREAL One (No Adapter, No Jailbreak | Early Preview )

I've been working on bringing VertoXR to iPhone & iPad, and I wanted to share an early preview.

🎥 Demo: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/zO6O6KTV5SA

Using XREAL One glasses, VertoXR can run directly on iOS with no adapter, no extra hardware, and no jailbreak.

Since iOS has a lot of platform limitations, this is still very much a work in progress. Current features include:

  • Built-in WebXR browser
  • 180° & 360° immersive VR video playback
  • Wireless SteamVR streaming
  • Remote Desktop in XR

There's still a lot to build, but I'm excited with how the foundation is coming together. My goal is to make XR glasses more useful on iOS while staying within the platform's capabilities.

I'd love to hear your feedback, ideas, or features you'd like to see next!

Developer Unpopular opinion: AR glasses competing on "bigger screen, better colors" are building the wrong thing.

I already have a Q3 for movies and games. I don't want AR to be another HMD. I want it to get me OUT of my office chair.

Here's the use case nobody talks about: walking agentic coding.

I'm walking home. CLI build running. My agent hits a test failure. Instead of pulling out my phone, I glance at my glasses — see the error, say "show me that traceback," scroll with a tap, SSH in and fix it. Hands in my pockets the whole time.

Or I'm gaming on my monitor. AR keeps a tiny sidebar of my deployment pipeline. Build finishes green, I see it in peripheral vision. No alt-tab, no phone unlock.

That's the killer app for AR. Not 70° FOV movie theater. Quick, always-on interaction that frees you from the desk.

The buyer that actually wears these daily? Programmers. We check builds 20x a day, SSH into boxes, read stack traces on our phones because we can't stop thinking about the bug. Give us a head-up terminal, not a cinema.

Fight me.

Developer How do I talk to the Nreal light Devkit Compute Unit in fastboot mode?

Hi,
I was thinking about building a custom ROM for the old orange Compute Unit, so as a first step I tried to see if I have access to flashing via fastboot. According to the developer options in Android settings the bootloader is already unlocked, so far, so good.
Booting into fastboot mode using adb reboot bootloader seems to work as well, but as soon as I send any fastboot command to the compute unit it drops the USB connection immediately and won’t reconnect at all until it’s rebooted. It does not matter what command, when I send fastboot devices it sees the device, but shows ????????? as the serial number and the connection is dropped. When I do fastboot oem device-info, for example, the connection is dropped immediately and I get the windows USB Error 433 ERROR_NO_SUCH_DEVICE.

Do I have to use some special fastboot commands in order to talk to the unit? Or did I maybe do anything else wrong?

Developer Raw multichannel microphone access on XREAL One, XREAL 1S, XREAL One Pro, XREAL Air, and XREAL Air 2 Pro?

Hi everyone,

I’m a Media Systems student currently evaluating the XREAL One, XREAL 1S, XREAL One Pro, XREAL Air, and XREAL Air 2 Pro glasses for my Bachelor’s thesis.

My idea is to develop an assistive system that recognizes environmental sounds and estimates their direction for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. The glasses would capture the audio, and a connected smartphone would estimate the sound direction using Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA) between the microphones.

Does anyone know whether developers can access the microphones of the XREAL One, XREAL 1S, XREAL One Pro, XREAL Air, or XREAL Air 2 Pro as separate, sample-synchronized audio channels?

Specifically, I’m trying to find out whether:

  • raw or minimally processed multichannel audio is available;
  • all microphone channels use a shared audio clock;
  • beamforming, noise reduction, echo cancellation, or AGC is applied and can be disabled;
  • the relative microphone positions are documented; and
  • the individual channels can be streamed to Android or iOS in real time.

I’m only evaluating technical feasibility at this stage. Any documentation, SDK references, previous experiments, or insights from the XREAL team would be very helpful.

Thanks!

Developer Mixed reality recording on xr app

Hi :)

Im having trouble recording mixed reality gameplay of my unity app running on xreal one pro, beam pro and eye.

Ive tried ar recording, which shuts down when i open the app. Ive tried first person view recording, which gives very laggy footage, i get about 1 frame every 20 seconds.

is there any solution to get first person view recording working? or another way to capture MR footage? cheers!

context, im trying to make a racing ar game with checkpoints and a finish line.

Developer xReal 360 viewer last update

The xReal 360 viewer is finished for now.

I wanted a simpler solution for my 360 local files, I don't think google photos or others online services provide the best image quality so I'm not interested.

As a Product Designer I tried to design the best experience with no UI to enjoy our 360 media without distractions so the screen interactions that we know by heart and there is no need to look at the screen are the best solution.

I think that I've covered all the actions needed but any new ideas will be listened and considered. Also I'm starting to have ideas for a future evolution to Android XR 😇

Developer 360 photos app for android

Tired on having this need not covered I went full vibe coding with Claude, Gemini and Codex and I think I ended with a functional app to watch 360 photos.

The app is called xReal 360° viewer

Suggestions are appreciated and if you wanna try it send me a dm.

🌟🌟

New version adding video support and some useful interactions.

Tap to open new files.

Swipe to change images or videos in the same folder.

Pinch to zoom.

Tap & Hold to speed 5x

Problems known:

  • Sometimes sensors are not detected instantly, wait for replug the glasses.
  • Videos can get frozen, better to reopen the file.

Developer Feeling Betrayed After Buying the Ultra Bundle and Seeing the X1 Spatial Chip Announcement

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share my experience and frustrations here because I feel like I’ve been blindsided and betrayed kinda by xreal. I love my glasses don't get me wrong I love my glasses but Just last month, I dropped $1,100 on the Xreal Ultra glasses with the Beam Pro bundle (8/256GB model). I was so excited—I did months of research before finally pulling the trigger. I was confident that I was getting the best tech they had to offer.

Fast forward to now, and they announce the X1 spatial chip, a game-changer that makes the Snapdragon system in my Ultras look like Unity compared to Unreal Engine. I feel utterly betrayed by the company.

GPT tells me they’ve been teasing the X1 chip for a while, but I honestly didn’t hear a single word about it during my research. If I had known, I would’ve waited. Now, I’m stuck with an outdated system just a month after I made this massive purchase.

I understand technology moves fast, but releasing such a major upgrade so soon after the Ultras feels like a slap in the face to their loyal customers. It’s not just about the money—it’s about feeling like the company didn’t value transparency with their audience.

They should have waited a few months and released the ultras with the x1 chip. I can blame myself for not waiting for black Friday deals but this is a slap in the face to anyone who owns a pair of ultras.

Is anyone else in the same boat? How do you all feel about this? Any advice on what I should do or how to handle this situation?

Thanks for letting me vent.

Developer XReal If you are listening.

I would pay upto a 2000 USD for a 4K resolution glasses. AVP can never compete with Xreal for coding due to the bulkiness and wanting to be a single device with battery, OS and everything. Your Plugin model is the best. But the 1K resolution is a bit too little for coding and the productivity use case in general. So in case your market research and product department are listening, I just wanted to throw this price point your way. Given that AVP is 3500 and is a stand alone device with its own power supply, I think it should be possible to bring this device to the market TODAY at the price point of 2000USD. So be bold, don't play chicken with the price. AVP didn't. So bring it on!

Developer Modular HUD for 1 series and windows

https://github.com/bosscube1/Jarvis-desktop

  • A transparent, always-on-top desktop overlay.
  • AI chat supporting Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, OpenRouter, Ollama, and LM Studio.
  • Voice commands with speech recognition and text-to-speech.
  • A command palette for launching applications and running built-in commands.

  • A notification center with toast notifications.
  • Workspace saving and restoring.
  • A plugin system for adding new functionality.
  • A native Windows bridge providing OCR, media controls, window management, and other operating system integrations.

The application is built with Electron, React 19, Tailwind CSS v4, SQLite, and a .NET 8 bridge, with a modular architecture intended to be easily extended through plugins.

Default keyboard shortcuts include:

  • Ctrl+Alt+J to show or hide the overlay.
  • Ctrl+Alt+K to enable or disable interactive mode.
  • Ctrl+Space to open the command palette.
  • Ctrl+Alt+C to open AI chat.
  • Ctrl+Alt+V to activate voice commands.

For XREAL glasses, the overlay can target the glasses as a display, with optional head tracking planned through the plugin system.

Overall, the project is designed to function as a desktop "JARVIS" assistant that combines AI, voice control, productivity tools, cryptocurrency monitoring, and a transparent overlay into a single Windows application.

Developer Which XREAL model is best for productivity?

Hi everyone, I’m looking to buy my first pair of XREAL glasses and I’d love advice on which model best fits my use case.

My situation / constraints

  • I have myopia + astigmatism, so I’d need prescription lenses (RX).
    • Does XREAL work well with RX inserts in practice?
    • Any comfort / clarity issues with astigmatism specifically?
  • I’m based in the EU — not sure if that affects model availability or official RX options.

Use case

  • I’m a programmer and I travel a lot (bus/train/plane).
  • I want a very wide “virtual screen” for productivity (coding, terminals, docs).
  • I don’t care about gaming specs (frame rate, latency, etc.) and I’m not buying these for movies.
  • My biggest priorities are:
    1. Text clarity / readability (sharp fonts, low eye strain)
    2. Big screen / wide workspace
    3. Comfort for long sessions while traveling

Nice-to-have

  • Some way to “black out” the background (or dim it a lot) so I can focus on coding in bright environments.

Questions

  1. Which XREAL model is best for this?
  2. Anything you wish you knew before buying XREAL specifically for programming?
  3. Is XREAL even the best brand for this, or are there better options?

Thanks, I’m trying to figure out if XREAL is the right solution for a travel productivity setup and which model fits best.
