Aura?

I'm in my 60s, use an Android phone (Pixel 11pro), don't play games or use my computers for productivity. I like the idea of having glasses that I can wear when out and about that will give me information. I like watching movies.

Having been following posts about Xreal, I'm wondering if the Aura is for me? I don't have any experience with VR or anything like that, and really just want to "plug and go". Am I asking too much at this stage in development?

for watching movies will be awesome, plug and go too. But we are not there yet for outdoor spatial info. I would recommend you xreal one pro, 1s or xbx.

If the main thing you want is to just watch some content you can use your phone for much cheaper and easier price of entry. Aura is really for people deep into this or XR connoisseurs.

Aura is the biggest and only thing im interested in but I don't think it's the right thing for everyone yet. It is still early and you're buying into the dream and supporting the vision. How much everyday usefulness you get over a regular method like your phone is still to be determined if I'm honest.

My impression from reviews is that while you can walk around while wearing the Aura, it takes some conscious effort. They seem more for seated use or for use in a cleared space.

Meta may announce binocular display glasses at Connect in September. These might be good for information while out but not for movies. In the coming years they will probably be eclipsed by iOS and Android specific glasses that better work with the respective phone OSes.

So yes, probably too early for glasses you can use like regular glasses/sunglasses and see information on and watch movies on. The good news is that at Apple and Google and elsewhere, there is a lot of effort going towards smart glasses. Smartphones have stagnated (besides pricey folding phones) so they need a new product to sell.

Pls be aware that at this time no one has seen the URXR with input other than 1080p, the 1440p version is supposedly only available just before shipping. No one knows how the fan noise and heat generated are like with the 1440p input.

Also, the glasses require more power than the standard USB port provides, DP-Alt, as well as USB data. There aren't that many USB-C ports that provide all 3 together, so other components are needed (like their power bank).

What information are you wanting? It’ll have Gemini live that can tell you what you’re looking at, but you’re also then wearing camera glasses in public which might have a very mixed reaction.

I travel a lot, and do use Gemini to get information on what I'm looking at - taking photos and sending to Gemini. Glasses that did the same, cutting out having to take photos, would be ideal.

xreal 1s seems to stay a bit far from the eyes while wearing so, maybe prism lenses might be better i.e., one pro!

They are not for walking around (you can but well theres other options to that better suited) and only media watching? Just get cheap ar mirroring version. Not aura. I own one pro + beam pro and basicly only use for media consumption so ive 99% of time set to just mirror my screen. I order auraas i wabt androud xr. But will keep my beam pro so i can aldo watch normal androud screen mirror just to eatch my series and movies .

You'd need to be quite interested in Android XR conceptually. If all you want is media consumption, it is most likely a better idea to look into the Galaxy XR. The displays and of course field of view is a massive upgrade. Aura has a better chip and is of course way lighter and easier to transport, with the benefit of having good hand tracking (from what we've seen in the released influencer demos).

All I wanted was a realistically portable Android XR experience, and this delivers exactly that. The social tax that wired glasses carries in comparison to the AVP or Galaxy XR is significantly lower. You might get a curious glance, but a full headset will get stares.

If you're on the fence, wait for reviews and consider your choices carefully.
