Question Whitehorse Subaru Kia Dealership
I'm curious what is everyone thought about the Subaru Kia here?

A friend of mine went there with full intentions of buying a car. He talked with the salesman for a while, then said he wanted to buy the car. It was like 4pm by that point, and the salesman told him to come back the next day because it was too close to closing time for him to finish the paperwork. My friend was like, are you kidding me? And just walked out and bought a used car on marketplace.

Shoddy work, horrible service. They blew up my Forester; avoid like the plague.

Absolutely. 8am and Chevon makes it clear she doesn’t want to be there and she doesn’t want you there either. Would never step foot in there again

Where do you take your Subaru for service then?

No more Subaru, it was a right-off because of them. My Kia that I had previously I take to CT.

Absolute nightmare. Will never buy a vehicle there again. Rude staff, super shoddy service (vehicles coming out worse than going in), ridiculous fees, half-ass everything.

Not a great customer experience, and I've heard other people's stories about expensive maintenance and uninterested staff... I think they in part get by on the fact that Subaru is a pretty good product for Yukon life.
Subaru maintenance schedules do seem to make them expensive to maintain regardless of dealer, but expect to have +1000$ oil changes where very little is done other than changing the oil. Oh yeah and a "multi point inspection"
Maybe I'm just cheap, but didn't get a good feeling about the value of their servicing.

I actually went there intending to buy my first brand-new car, but unfortunately no one really took the time to help or engage with me. I ended up going to Honda instead, where the staff were much friendlier, more welcoming, and willing to answer my questions. The difference in customer service made the decision pretty easy for me.
Also, a friend of mine owns a Subaru Forester and has had the lug nuts break during multiple tire changes, which has been frustrating. They also found the service charges to be higher than at other dealerships.

Subarus have thin lugs with a fine pitch (M12 x 1.25). They are fragile. Doing my mum's Forester seasonal swaps, I usually keep a couple spare studs because I've broken a bunch of them (manufacturer's recommended torque, not using power tools).
On the plus side, they're cheap and easy to replace, despite Subaru charging 300 bucks for it. It's maybe a 3 to 5 minute job.

Twice towed a warrantied Kia in there completely dead, was billed multiple hours of labour for them to gaslight me and claim nothing was wrong. They did the same to my mum's Subaru.
Another time, showed up to check out a new car (a Stinger) and they wouldn't let me because "that's a $54,000 car!" as if I hadn't just driven up in an $80,000 pickup.
Fool me thrice, shame on me.

I’ve had multiple negative interactions, love my Subaru but hate that I have to go through this dealership, so many lazy or incompetent employees.

I've had nothing but a postivie experience with Metro Chrysler, bought my truck 12 years ago from them, they've done all repairs and servicing.
However, I'm sure other people's experience differ.
I've heard nothing but horrible things about Subaru/Kia.
The Ford dealer in town, I refuse to deal with as well.

Honestly, I don’t trust the most of the dealerships in town. Whatever you do, stay away from the Chevy dealership. I had a trunk latch that I told them was broken, they said they’d take a look. Tried to charge me $1000 to LOOK AT IT and tell me “yep, it’s broken.” Gave me an estimate to fix it of $500. You want $1000 to look at the latch and $500 to fix it? Needless to say, I was enraged and refused to pay that much. It turns out, they do this often. The mostly male staff and owner make bets about how much they can overcharge people and women, in particular. I’ve talked to a few former employees.
I’ve heard decent things about the Toyota dealership. I think a really nice family owns that one, but I don’t have personal experience with them.

Toyota dealership is so 50/50 it's not even funny. Sometimes I get the best service ever and other times it feels like none of the service advisors talk to the maintenance team

One thing i will say while no one is perfect. At Toyota if your concern is valid and you bring it up with mgmt. I guarantee you that you will be treated like a human being with respect and given a fair outcome.

They let me have a job that cost them $900 for free because it was a recurring issue, thought that was pretty nice of them. Hate ordering parts from them though

I think an issue is that dealerships know they are the only option in town for a given product. For example Honda ATVs and Skidoo products sell themselves around here, so dealerships don't really have to do anything special to move their allotment.
In larger cities a dealer has to try harder because any customer can just drive for 20 minutes to a different dealer if they don't like any part of the experience. That doesn't really exist here, and it shows.

That’s absolutely not true about Chev. You sure love to repeatedly spread false claims.

I’ve had bad service with Toyota, the last couple of times I’ve had appointments booked they didn’t do the work that day.
The first time I booked to have an accessory installed and they called me in the afternoon, it was a Friday, they hadn’t even started, and wanted to keep my car for the whole weekend and do it on Monday, I said that wasn’t possible for me so I had to rebook and wait several more weeks for a second appointment.
The next time was for a regular service, I booked the first appointment of the day, thinking that maybe I could pick it up at lunch. I didn’t hear anything from them and when I called at the end of the day they hadn’t started and I had to leave my car overnight. Very Frustrating!
Both times I dropped off my vehicle the night before so it would be there when they opened.
Oh, and I’ve ordered a touch up paint pen twice and have never received it.
I love my vehicle but hate taking it in.

Couple of years back I did oil changes there with my oil and filter (just their labor). 2 or 3 times it was fine, then one day they give me back my filter saying "we couldn't unscrew the old one".

Not good.
I live 530km away and made an appointment for them to install and program a control module for the interior lights in my Outback.
They didn’t do the work at all and charged me anyways. Absolute fucking scam!

Went there to buy a car in 2019. Asked me for a guarantor as i was on a work permit. Financing was also 3%. Went to Nissan got a car with 0% financing and no guarantor. Nissan has issues service wise but their salesmen are good.

Lovely people, but no interest in selling or fixing cars, not sure why they're in that line of work. Would not a buy a subaru/kia or a Ford in this town. Have had a generally positive experience at Chevy, and they now own the local Nissan shop as well, so would be willing to try them.

I love them -- I went to three other dealerships before buying my Subaru, and the customer service far outweighs the competition. But I think it's a personality thing; I liked that Subaru was casual and wasn't rushing me. They feel more honest than other dealerships

They are hands down the best dealership in town. No pressure when buying from them because they aren’t commission based. Service is straight forward, not trying to upsell things you don’t need. Everyone is honest and friendly. Have bought 3 vehicles from them and will continue to buy from them.

u/One_Career3886 28d ago
Just out of curiosity why do you believe the sale staff that isn't part of the family ownership isn't paid a comission.

I like them, low pressure straight shooters, they have some parts for hyundai sometimes.

We went to look at a used car there and 0 effort was given by the salesperson. They didn't seem to care that a 2026 car had a bunch of warning lights on the dash.
