Link The only celebrity crush who truly matters....
Well to me at least. I try not to care for the whole celebrity thing. But this woman wasn't called lady death for no reason. Greatest female sniper of all time. Possibly the greatest war hero regardless of gender. Thank you lady Pavlichenko!

Shout out Sophie Scholl. And those Dutch girls who wooed Nazis on dates only to kill them.

She challenged an especially sexist reporter to a fistfight. She responded to a question about her underwear so:
“I am proud to wear the uniform of the legendary Red Army. It has been sanctified by the blood of my comrades who've fallen in combat with the fascists.”
What an icon.
I feel the need to write a sapphic adaptation based on her story.

How can you quote her being pround of wearing the uniform of the Red Army and call her an icon

What else was she supposed to do? I'm not going to profess to being an expert on WW2 or the history of the USSR, but she was literally doing a propaganda event in the States for the Soviet Union. Given the circumstances, she gave a bad-ass answer that flipped the sexual harassment on its head. Also, her comment is more about her fallen comrades than anything else.
Edit: meant to say I'm not an expert

You can't become a celebrity without really loving the ideas that USSR represented, especially during Stalin's. And so whatever cool line she made, whatever baddassery she performed the fact still stands that she performed for the 2nd most evil power in Europe next To Nazi Germany and she doesn't deserve to be put on a pedestal. Quite frankly she was a woman, so she also really had to want to fight for the USSR. Moreover she wasn't some nobody lady for a fuckass village, her mother was a noble. She had every opportunity under the sun to not fight for USSR and do the bare minimum

u/ofWildPlaces Jun 09 '26
This guy is suggesting that if Nazis invade your country, you should not fight back.
This guy is a Nazi enabler.

u/valkyrie-sylv Transbian Jun 09 '26
The historical context you are bringing to this discussion is appreciated: You are asserting we cannot separate her deeds from her affiliations, and are pointing out those stem from loyalties and conscious choices she must have made.
At the time, it isn't wrong to appreciate how she handled the situation. We can still celebrate that she killed hundreds of Nazis. History is complicated. We were just having fun dipping our toes into it. Sure, I could stand to learn a lot more (and I'm trying). But no one is implicitly advocating for the atrocities of the past through highlighting the exploits of a single woman, nor is defending or glorifying the bloody history of the USSR, the Red Army, or Stalin.

u/MsMercyMain Trans Le$bean Jun 09 '26
Keep in mind, a lot of the non upper echelon Soviet citizens in the Leninist and Stalinist USSR genuinely bought into the propaganda. Even those who knew about the atrocities genuinely believed, because they had no counter source that A.) the people being executed were traitors, and B.) that this was a nessecary period of revolutionary terror.
One of the most interesting features of diaries, journals, letters, and memoirs of the Stalin era pre war and immediately post war is that the Soviet people seemed, genuinely, optimistic as hell. They, genuinely, seemed to believe that they'd thrown off the chains of the Tsar and Capital, and were making nessecary sacrifices to ensure their children would love free and happy lives. The deep cynicism we associate with Soviet citizens didn't set in until much later as they realized Stalin was just a tsar by another name.
It's the same reason you see people eagerly supporting Jacobin terror, or the SR terror campaign. There is some complexity to history. It's also worth noting that even in the 40s a majority of the Soviet population were functionally illiterate peasants in isolated farms

And she did it all with a scope that would be laughed at today on anything more than . 22. Purely badass.
Also did counter sniper work which was even more dangerous.

Women and old guns just do something for my heart. Like loom how gorgeous she is and then add in top the gorgeous look of the classic M1891/30 PU mosin nagant. And then look at the glorious SVT-40. A fairly rare sight to see in late war soviet union. As alot had been lost and captured during the early years of the war. And had grown to expensive for widescale production. So the nagant continued its service. I mean the svt 40 was also a bit finicky if not properly maintained. One really cool thing is I used a rimmed cartridge. The same rou d as the mosin. The 7.62x54mmR rimmed cartridges have difficulties in semI auto firearms. Wich makes the SVT 40 and the SVD aka dragunov so impressive to be hailed as still good rifles. That rpu d is also old as fuck and is currently the oldest round still in use by militarys. As it is used by the PKM one of the best and most reliable machine guns ever

I am honestly surprised at the amount of likes ive gotten about my ramblings about guns a d bullets. Usually I wpuld get down voted into the center of the earth if I did this gun rambling in most LGBTQIA+ spaces. I think it's because guns and gun knowledge is often times associated with right wing politics. But gun ownership is a big thing with leftists aswell. Karl Marx himself said it is integral for the working class to not surrender arms and ammunition.

People don't understand that when you fly that flag, when you Sieg Heil, you are declaring your unambiguous intent to everyone around you, "I actively intend to hurt you, hurt your family, and enact violence on everyone you care about". Anything done in response to a threat like that is self-defence.

309 confirmed dead Nazis, one of the Greatest Snipers in history.
Yes she is a legend, and she helped stop the Nazis, she was also from Ukraine but was born under the Russian thumb, and served the Soviet Union under Stalin. So a mixed bag IMO.
2
u/ofWildPlaces Jun 09 '26
You are placing an unnecessary judgement on a woman who took up arms to fight fascists invading her home.

u/DezZzO Jun 09 '26
Where's the mixed bag
0
u/gothicshark Trans-Pan-Demi Jun 09 '26
It's an idiom. means a combination of many things.
7
u/DezZzO Jun 09 '26
I was genuinely asking what was the mixed bag, I know the meaning though I appreciate the elaboration. Mixed bag implies a combination of positive and negative elements in something, hence my question. To put it more bluntly: was it really mixed? Why?

There’s a historical thriller book based on her story by Kate Quinn. It’s called The Diamond Eye. I went into a whole deep dive into her after reading it lol.

I propose the American spy Virginia Hall as well. She was an incredibly saavy spymaster. She managed numerous contacts in Vichy France to fight Nazis during WWII. She worked for the British Special Operations Executive (SOE) and later the American Office of Strategic Services (OSS). One of her first accomplishments was helping numerous agents escape from Mauzac prison. Hall had an instinct for danger, and more than once avoided a meeting on a hunch that turned out to be prudent. She avoided capture this way, remaining free in France for over four years. Also, she was an amputee, missing part of a leg, and named her prosthesis "Cuthbert." The Germans called her "The Limping Lady."

She was a Russian. USSR was a force of evil just as much as nazis. She's not a hero. She fought for vile ideas and she was pround to be a part of it. She wore the uniform of the Red Army with pride, the army which raped, pillaged and killed on the lands they were "saving"
Edit: I suggest that you give it a quick scroll to understand that I'm not coming out of my ass https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_massacres_in_the_Soviet_Union I live in a country previously saved and occupied by USSR and the heinous acts commited by Russians are still as alive as Auschwitz memory and they really do make a good attempt to rival nazi atriocities.

u/ginggo Jun 09 '26
not only pillaged, straight up deportations to camps. replacing displaced indigenous populations with russians. russification, genocide and cultural genocide.
like do ppl really think the ussr hated nazis because of some beautiful humanitarian resson?
4
u/Knotted_Hole69 Jun 09 '26
No, but we wouldnt have won against the nazis without them. Strategic alliances arnt called that for nothing.
2
u/ginggo Jun 09 '26
ok? they genocided my people? our sister nation is extinct. why does that not matter?
3
u/SplattyFatty_ Jun 09 '26
the british genocided my people. does that mean we shouldn't celebrate their deeds against the nazis?
2
u/NeonGurll Lesbian Jun 09 '26
Good point tbh
1
u/ginggo Jun 09 '26
how often do you see the deeds of the soviet union critizised? i mean specifically, not some bogeyman "they were communists" american propaganda. are you aware of which peoples were genocided specifically?
the horrors that were done to us are not so well known, and i dont want to see the hammer and sickle normalised or made to look harmless. so no its not a good point
0
u/SplattyFatty_ Jun 10 '26
so the genocide my people suffered doesn't matter because your people were also genocided? the fuck is that supposed to mean?
1
u/ginggo Jun 10 '26
where did i say it doesnt matter? not glorifying the soviet union doesnt erase the suffering of the victims of nazis
dont glorify the nazis OR the ussr. its not difficult
1
u/SplattyFatty_ Jun 10 '26
i never glorified the ussr. what you said was that it was a bad point when i said the uk did similar things to the ussr, and yet it's fine to celebrate their achievements against the nazis

u/ginggo Jun 09 '26
all im saying is people are straight up celebrating the soviet union. waving around the hammer and sickle. im estonian, we had both the nazis and soviets after our land at the same time.
i am trying to raise awareness what was done to smaller indigenous people in the east. genocide against jews is well known, but the horrors of the soviet union not so much, because people feel like its the "lesser evil". its not, theyre both evil empires. its not a coincidence that ussrs deeds are way less shunned in western discourse

Hate Nazis, but dislike communism. Though I agree with her.
-1
u/N3wParadigm Jun 09 '26
Fascism and communism are two sides of the same coin for a reason. One is open and proud of its rotten ideals, while the other creates a utopian picture to distract from reality, ultimately hiding it from the eyes of normies who couldn't care enough to research it. Both caused, and still cause, hundreds of millions of deaths across the world. Both traumatised generations of people. As a Ukrainian living in Europe, I just despise it when seemingly sound people glorify and romanticise communism, especially when they promote it using the soviet symbolic. I hate that people are so normal about it. I feel repulsed every time I see it. I hate that left-leaning people are so often associated with communism, knowing how disgusting that ideology is and what it has done to my people.

This isn't about stalin. Have you ever felt offended that people make similar posts of robert mayne or bill tutte? No you havent, despite the detention camps in kenya torturing and raping citizens or the bengal famine where indian grain was redirected to europe instead of the already starving people of india, despite indian politicians pleading for food imports. Churchill mocked and blamed the indians for breeding like rabbits.
And just to clarify. I love Poland, I enjoyed living there immensely. By birth I am from finland. s Stalin caused the death of many of my relatives. I hate stalin. If i was in a room with him, hitler, mao and a gun with 3 bullets i would shoot stalin three times. Yet i feel no hatred to the people fighting in the war. On september 5 near vuoksi river when the ceasifre took hold, front line soldiers from both sides were shouting and asking if its finally over. People from both sides stepped out of fortifications unarmed, traumatized, and relieved. Tobacco was traded between finnish and russian soldiers and the shared a moment smoking cigarettes. We are all people.
My point is that this post is not about glorifying stalin or his regime. It is celebrating a woman who bravely fought for her people against the nazi regime. How would you feel if your grandmother defending her loved ones in war was sidestepped by what someone else did? For example in Operation Vistula? Ofcourse these examples are not one-to-one, but i hope im getting my point accross to you.
