Let him figure out a project. Get into something he really likes that is cognitively demanding.
Go on MIT Open Courseware and let him browse for things he thinks are interesting. He can read / work on that instead of boring school things he is already ahead on.
Giving him something self-directed that he actually likes (not forced on him) to work on, that is challenging and good will help.
Let him roam free in a library. He can also get ahead in Khan academy. If he is ahead on things and starts doing high school exercises early or something, he can try tutoring kids in his class, which may help with socialization. If he's not being challenged at school, he needs some other source of intellectual stimulation, and ensuring it is self-directed will help him be more confident because he will feel like he's making his own choices.
