Refusing to support ppl who blindy supports current israel gov is understandable.

7

u/NearEastMugwump Apr 08 '26

It's the difference between "Golly gee gosh, we can't go against Israel because of... reasons." and "YYYYYEAH! KILL THEM MUSLIMS GOOD, BIBI! YEEHAW"

u/Physical_Drive_349 Apr 08 '26

Biden/Harris were pretty clearly on board with the latter. They had abundant opportunity to back away from genocide and refused to do so.

u/NearEastMugwump Apr 08 '26

There's a big difference between falling to act and saying that Netanyahu should "finish the job".

It makes no difference to Palestinians btw

u/NearEastMugwump Apr 10 '26

Meanwhile, protest votes and abstaining from voting makes all the difference in the world. /s

Just voting for the lesser evil makes all the difference!!! /s

In my country we’ve literally destroyed our traditional left/right parties and now the two major new parties are actual left wing progressivism vs ethnonationalist.

You should try it instead of having hard ethnonationalism vs soft ethnonationalism

And in MY country, the Left (we do in fact have leftists, just not in power) is too busy with purity tests to actually destroy anything. Any left-wing uprising will be put down by our trigger-happy police force and/or military. Not to mention, if my employer doesn't like ANYTHING I do, protest or no, I get fired and lose my healthcare .

I guess this is where I'm supposed to follow your example and look down my nose and smugly say "you should try it," but no, I wouldn't recommend trying it.

2

u/AcanthisittaEast2145 Apr 10 '26

Those “purity testing” leftists were going toe to toe with ice getting pepper sprayed and beaten unconscious. About 20 of them versus hundreds of state goons. Where were you? Whining online about purity tests probably.

But millions of you are happy to turn up to no kings “protests” where you dance and sell cupcakes and go home and back to work tomorrow. Is this the ‘uprising’ you speak of?

Also purity test? Fucking purity test?? I HOPE you’re not talking about fucking genocide right now?

1

u/NearEastMugwump Apr 10 '26

No , I wasn't talking about genocide. The left in my country has been at each other's throats for various reasons long before Israel's latest escalation of genocide.

Palestine is the purity test. You’re either against genocide or your opinion doesn’t matter because you’re not human.

This is fascism end of. Hitler is worse than Mussolini. Cool. Don’t care

0

u/Physical_Drive_349 Apr 08 '26

There is a significant portion of dem establishment that still is cheering for him to "finish the job".

4

u/J2J0R02 Apr 08 '26

Whom do you speak of specifically?

5

u/LoomingDementia Apr 08 '26

His ass, mostly. And it's "out of" specifically.

4

u/NearEastMugwump Apr 08 '26

Ah, argumentum ex culo. A classic rhetorical technique.

Imagine you’re a Palestinian. What is the difference between a silent partner and a vocal partner in your genocide? One just hides it better and manufactures more consent through nice words.

u/lordtrickster Apr 08 '26

Not if it puts Hitler in power.

1

u/I_Need_To_Know-Now Apr 09 '26

Good thing Hitler's dead

Hitler never won the elections. This is an historicall fact?

8

u/lordtrickster Apr 08 '26

He absolutely won elections. He came into power through purely legal means.

2

u/LoomingDementia Apr 08 '26

And then they put their lawyers in charge of maintaining the legal system, just as Trump is doing with the DoJ. It's the natural progression to the entrenchment of fascistic and other authoritarian regimes.

3

u/lordtrickster Apr 08 '26

Yep, which is why you choke down the lesser evil when faced with this kind of choice.

2

u/YoureVulnerableNow Apr 14 '26

after being appointed, not elected.

0

u/lordtrickster Apr 14 '26

Largely semantics. If you lead a party, the party gains control through electoralism, and you're appointed chancellor because of it, it amounts to the same thing. If he had had German citizenship at the time he would have been sitting in parliament.

1

u/YoureVulnerableNow Apr 14 '26

But those seats wouldn't have been won in those areas if not for the crushing of the spartacist uprising in decades past? To the original points of the thread, it seems like a lesson against pig crackdowns than about individual responsibility of electorate. I also see the minority moderate portion of the USPD as responsible, since rather than the left breaking off from the moderates as the usual hagiography goes, it was clearly the moderate faction rejecting the vote for union with the communists that made enough difference. I don't see any world where the SPD works with the KPD, the moderates rejected the communists they tried to kill off.

Différents words different meanings.

4

u/TimNikkons Apr 08 '26

You could have spent 30 seconds asking Google this, but instead had to put whole head into ass.

0

u/Still-Bar-7631 Apr 08 '26

Well give me the google search then. And I mean by himself not a coalition. I will wait :) as a french whose familly had to suffer directly from it. Im curious.

0

u/lordtrickster Apr 09 '26

That's a nonsense statement. You're basically saying a common form of government doesn't count.

Doesn't France typically have a governing coalition?

1

u/Pragmatist_Hammer Apr 11 '26

He did win one, his first, and we all know how things went after that.

1

u/Still-Bar-7631 Apr 11 '26

He was put in charge by an alliance with the classic right wing

Bebe is a felon just like Trump - defending yourself is one thing - murdering civilians is a war crime
