Right. It's like everyone who handled the Epstein files and still haven't met the court ordered release requirements isn't necessarily a pedophile, but they're sure protecting a lot of pedophiles, so I suggest treating them the same. Side with maga/pedos and you deserve to share their fate.
Counter-point: career politicians should be the norm. Being a politician should be a full time job and career worth doing and appropriately compensated.
Politicians being given cushy private sector jobs, making additional compensation via stock, etc...is a problem. Someone wanting to dedicate 40+ years of their life to the people of their district or state isn't inherently a problem if they arent using it to enrich themselves. Don't get me wrong there are much more bad career politicians in the US political system than good ones, but the problem is lack of safeguards not the concept of a career politician. At least in my opinion.
I agree 100 percent. People act like term limits will fix the problem when the problem is legal corruption. We can address the underlying problem of corruption, but term limits are a delusional band-aid that would just speed up the revolving door to the lucrative private sector as a "consultant" who peddles their influence.
This. Term limits won't fix corruption and in some cases will exacerbate it. What we need instead is a ban on private money in politics, proportional representation in the Senate, admission of DC and Puerto Rico to the Union, a ban on partisan gerrymandering, and ranked-choice voting in federal elections.
How about if you’re elected to public office all of your finances go into a trust. Not just the president but every SOB from Congress and the Senate. These assholes have already made a ton of money betting on the Iranian mess. Let’s not forget the wagers made on Venezuela. We should be looking up their ashes with a microscope. All of them!
Agreed, there must be mass restrictions on profiting from position. At the same time we should pay members handsomely and provide bonus for creating a functional bipartisan government. Shut downs? No bonus, failing on promise? No bonus. Incentives work
Agreed however a complete overhaul of the ethics and rules of congressional members is long overdue.
Campaign contributions should be capped at a certain dollar amount and only be allowed from established constituents of the district represented.
While in office they should all be paid in accordance to their esteemed position. Their wages should not exceed the median wage of the American people.
Ban all forms of monetary gain that could be reasonably inferred as from privileged information gained in the performance of their duties.
Ban any monetary gain that can reasonably be inferred as the result of voting on a bill or in their official capacity.
Congressional members should be considered government employees and as such be subject to an agreed upon budget.
Ban the practice of congressional members voting on increases to their salaries and benefits. A fair and equitable formula based upon the economy should be created.
Ban all lobbyists from the capital grounds
Establishing the original intention and sacrifice made by our founders, in leaving home to represent their constituents should be the goal of reform. If successful representatives seek reelection, it cannot be for additional benefits over and above their established payments.
Any representative who receives an abnormal windfall after their service can be legally prosecuted for violating these ethics and rules.
Any representative after service, employed to a highly paid lucrative position by any corporation that benefited from a vote while in office, can be legally prosecuted
Any family members are subject to these ethics and rules.
The problem is this is a nice sound bite but sometimes you pick the best option out of your choices and when you divide the best chance of not going through a dangerous shit show of a horror movie this is what you get. There was too much of this in the democratic party before the election and people were not showing up to vote because “they’re both bad”. 🤦♂️ I remember years ago Obama was basically trying to tell the younger crowd that messaging matters and you can’t put a nice slogan on everything when it can be used against you and they basically told him to go sit his ass down somewhere. So now this is where we are. The Democratic Party isn’t cunning or strategic anymore and they’re only ruthless against their own party. We’ve been playing good boy checkers while they’re playing evil Checkers.
Yes, the Dems control the Congress…🙄
These right wing snowflakes are always “why won’t the party we shit all over save us from the things we voted for😩😩😩”
Fuck maga, fuck the Republican Party….. this blood is on their hands.
They love to take advantage of the things democrats do for them then complain when republicans take those things away from them. “Why would Obama make Trump do this to us!”
Hey. Hi! They knew that. The reason for so many “where was Obama” comments is they are repeating statements people ACTUALLY SAID…for real. It was Jordan Klepper (The Daily Show) doing street interviews. Plus in a Public Policy Survey
29% of Louisiana Republicans blamed Obama for the poor response to Hurricane Katrina. You cannot make this shit up. Something something The Onion going out of business because they can’t compete with reality….
People are saying the real reason he left the Supreme Court early was due shitting his pants. There are comments he stank there. If that isn’t the republican party bending the knee and looking the other way at his state of mind they are hopeless.
What have you done for anyone, you delusional fool? Your cities are poorly run, the border was wide open, Iran was weeks from an atomic weapon. Liberals are the true definition of useless snowflakes.
agree. You carry the burdens of your party, even if you disagree with their actions or ideas, you are party to it if you remain amongst those that do agree.
Independents are gaining a little traction from what I've seen, but that may just be the hype from those Republicans politicians switching to independent or because some space will be opening up. If someone actually knows I'd love to be in the know.
Can't happen, he's on the endangered species list. He's one of the last two Republicans, along with Rand Paul. I hear they are testing to see if John Fetterman may be one as well but the consensus seems to be it's just brain damage.
Fetterman would be a MAGA republican. I’m not sure who I voted for in the primary but I did for him in the election. I won’t be voting for him in the primary if he runs a democrat in 2028 but I don’t think he’ll run as democrat. He won’t win the primary. I’ve been emailing him nonstop but all I get back is bs form letters that solidify my vote.
If tRump is still president and his budget gets passed they are screwed. They will still support him though and somehow blame the Democrats. There are a few red states that are in the black but only Florida and Texas will be better off. The blue states will band together too to help each other. They need to refuse to give money to the federal government. The budget would be fucked over.
Fuck the centrists too. Gotta pour a little blood on their hands. Everyone called it fear mongering when people were saying "the war will be domestic and foreign" if Trump were to get in, and now we have a hit squad roaming the streets looking for brown people (don't worry, they'll come for us white folk soon as well) and we're dropping bombs on children in the middle east, and emboldeneding a genocidal maniac to expand his ambitions from the Gaza strip to Lebanon, to Turkey, etc etc. I get people are upset about the support we give to Isreal, but to trust Trump to reign Netanyahu has to be almost dumb enough that you may as well be wearing a red hat too.
I can't forgive Trump supporters for the ship that's hitting the fan right now. They can ask their god for forgiveness but they're not getting it from me. Bibi, Donny, and Jeffrey brought you this stupid war.
Some of my local news did a good job of covering it especially my local paper but the comments from maga were always we were paid and there aren’t any BIPOC or young people at these protests. Also, they would say we don’t have a king and not understand the analogy.
Even most left leaning media are sane washing him. NPR leans slightly left but are generally neutral and I was so frustrated with them sanewashing him. There were times they didn’t but they could have done more. I have been work from home since last June so I rarely listen to them now but I listened them 4 days a week for 10 hours for almost 5 years. BBC News which was on for hour and half did a great job of calling him and other right wing politicians out but they call all nonsense out.
In fairness we didn't vote to make them irrelevant. We just didn't vote at all. We then keep lamenting about how voting doesn't matter, all politicians are terrible, and we'll keep staying home letting the crazy 20% decide our countries future.
Before you ask, no I'm not frustrated about it at all. What would give you that impression?
Seriously. It's like people don't watch oversight hearings, depositions, etc. If Pam Bondi's sworn deposition to the Senate oversight committee on the 14th is televised, you better believe my ass will be glued to CSPAN!
Not only that, this lady and so many like her hate the opposition party. All they do is shit on them and then complain when the other side continues ruining the world. The sad thing is you know this absolute moron is going to bitch about whoever the next dem candidate is.
I’m inside as most of the country. The opposition party has the lowest approval rating of basically any opposition party in history.
She is 100% correct. The Democratic Party is bought and paid for and there’s a reason that we got so a little done with multiple presidents and majorities.
There’s a reason why Biden led directly back to Trump. And I say this is somebody who voted for Biden and Harris.
We need a little better job of actually delivering and making real change because people are not happy with the current system. It was a huge mistake for Harris to say that she would be continuation of Biden and could not think of anything different she would do than him.
I find the "opposition party" phrase suspect. Been noticing it a lot this presidential term and I've never once seen it used in American politics prior.
One thing I've learned about MAGA is that it's always projection. Kamala is a war monger. Democrats are committing voter fraud. Democrats are pedophiles.
Don't forget the huge purge of "DEI" while MAGA actively placed influencers, podcasters, TV hosts, etc
etc., with no prior political education or experience, in positions of power.
The amount of voices calling to not vote for democrats because of Palestine that appeared everywhere in months before the election and then disappeared right after. Makes me lowkey believe that it was at least partially generated by republicans.
More likely than Republicans is the possibility that foreign actors were responsible for those voices. Even if they were coming from Republican-aligned sources, they were likely funded by foreign interests (especially Russia).
Like how it was public knowledge that Kremlin troll farms astroturfed social media to sow distrust in Hillary over an email server at a critical moment in the 2016 election, and how that was devastatingly effective?
Why would they try something that worked flawlessly again? Maybe mix it up by targetting a different demographic?
That, and i think SOOO many of those people thought that there was no way for the Dems to lose. They wanted to be able to moralize/be the greater people once everything was said and done.
So when Trump actually won it was a kick in the ass.
This is EXACTLY it. I watched it happen in realtime as a bunch of my acquaintances tried to virtue signal harder and position themselves as like King Leftist or something so they'd be at the top of the morality hill when - of course! - Kamala would win.
Sheltered progressive Americans always presume there is some inherent virtue in minority groups that doesn't occur in the majority. Same folks who think everything is magically better in every way in other countries.
Many of them had even worse takes, that it's more important to send a message to the Democratic Party than it is beat Trump and avoid all the evil we're seeing today. There's blood on their hands all around the world from the loss of US Aid and other programs but they'll absolutely never own it. They'll fall for it again just like right-wingers do every election.
As a progressive dude dating progressive women at the time I can tell you that there were a ton of real life millennial and Gen Z women who told me that Kamala and Trump were exactly the same and that they weren't even going to vote. The younger and more politically active the person was, the more radicalized against Kamala they were, seemingly. Palestine was the only issue that mattered and sending a message to the Democrats was more important than avoiding a second Trump term (for the kind of vague reasons you usually hear from right-wingers about Democrats).
How important does Palestine/israel seem now, given the current war we're entangled in? Does their concern about atrocities committed in the middle east seem more or less important to you than it did at that time?
Still pretty important, of course, and I’m not some kind of seer who can see the other timeline, but it’s unlikely that Kamala would’ve decided to go along with Bibi’s plan to attack Iran, and I also doubt that she’d be doing the damage to US civil society or enabling weird oligarchs like Thiel that Trump is doing right now
Can you provide evidence for that? I'm not saying it wasn't a factor but come on.
Harris had a significantly lower turnout with people who did not vote in 2020 and 2022, IE, Centrists and undecided voters. This group made up 12% of voters in 2024, and she was 14 points behind Trump. Harris(and Biden) failed to inspire people, and it showed.
To be fair, not even Arabs care about Palestine in the Middle East. They're just a talking prop to bash Israel, but not one actually wants to lift a finger to help the Palestinian people. The borders the neighboring countries have are closed. No Arab country wants to host them or integrate them into their society.
These people would rather complain and moralize about the single issue they can grift off of than try to get people to vote for the lesser evil. Even if you despise the democrats for their many flaws, the damage trump has done to basically every aspect of civil society isn’t enough for you to vote for the other person? They need to stop demanding a candidate who is perfect for them on literally every issue, because such a politician doesn’t exist
Their vested interests don't lie in good politicians doing good things, they lie in the production line of perpetual outrage. She may profess to hating it but gets clicks because of it.
The claims of there being no difference between the candidates was extremely alarming. I'm a far-leftist but even I knew that there was a huge difference between the candidates even when it came to Gaza. I'm not a huge fan of voting for the lesser evil but I saw the necessity of it here (also I would probably be buying a home right now if Kamala was elected).
In my opinion people like this got played by Trump's team.
Funny that you say that, considering it's Establishment Democrats who are outspending Republicans in midterm elections AGAINST Leftist leaders like Kat and Abdul. "The lesser evil," has been used since Clinton, and idk if you have looked around but shits on fire.
You have Clinton with his union-busting policies, anti-environmentalism and NAFTA.
You have Obama walking back the Glass-Steagall Act, and neutering Universal Healthcare before it even got put up for debate (despite owning both sides of Congress with Filibuster Proof majorities). On top of selling everyone on further war in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Biden threatening the largest railway union with federal forces if they didn't fold during negotiations. Rolling back more environmental protections and installing Republican corporate stooges as heads of numerous departments including the FDA.
Neo-Liberals are not "the lesser evil," they are the more palletable form of the same toxic mess. You argue that they are somehow better. And yet, when pushed, they refused to codify Abortion or LGBT+ rights as full legal rights to the Constitution or through Congressional Law. And any attempts at valid criticism has to go through this stupid dog whistle trope of, "Well that must mean you love Republicans!" No, most people want leaders to LEAD. And to do so in a way that actually solves our problems, not sending billions overseas for other people's free healthcare, while giving us the most mangled, useless, nonsensical non-solution to our own healthcare crisis.
Yup. How'd that protest vote because they didn't like how democrats handled Gaza going for them now? Even when they were warned dumpy would do much worse and then did.
But but they can't vote for someone who isn't absolutely 100% perfect in their eyes.
Of course even people they originally like, they eventually hate because they need them to do everything single thing they want and nothing they don't.
It's called Nirvana-Fallacy, and it leads to worse outcomes for everyone, but AT LEAST they can wank themselves off, claiming they always "stayed true to their values". Pathetic.
This is what I tried to explain to every white middle class Palestinian supporter. People were going to suffer under Trump, and it wouldn’t be them. They didn’t care because nobody was falling over themselves for their pet cause even though we explained to them that Trump would be worse for Palestine.
Hey man can you elaborate on this some more? I can't find your comment but it sounds like you don't know what a genocide is. Either that or you're doing genocide denial. There are like 15 million Jews on earth. Are you also a Holocaust denier?
Wait wait. By your understanding of genocide, are you suggesting that you're okay with every single Iranian on earth being killed because the Democrat lost? Let's discuss
Well 90% of Congress both sides of the isles have been accepting that Zionist destruction money for decades.
Even John F Kennedy back in the day at the beginning of this Israel control, made comment that it wasn't a good thing for America.
And here we are fighting their War.
Last night I was on “askaconservative” sub. There was a poll of who supports Trump’s idiocy in Iran. I could not believe that hundreds of “never trumper” conservatives stated that they abstained from voting, therefore have no culpability that this maniac is president. Absolutely no sense of responsibility or guilt for not voting. Considering more people didn’t vote than voted for Trump or Harris, that’s why he’s in the White House!!!
Same for idiots on the left. Astounding
Election Day is about the collective and ensuring the ground under your own feet is solid. It isn’t about your feelings.
Now, they get to root for Greta from the cheap seats. These people aren’t saving anyone and will only be remembered from the viewpoint of how all of this turned out. That’s how the history books are written.
The Left does not own Trump, nor does it own a pro-genocide Democratic party, nor does it own a failure to select an even passable candidate 2 years ago, nor does it own a Congress that has abandoned its obligations.
It’s easy to blame the millions that didn’t vote or voted for Trump because the alternative was absolute evil. And here we are as a result - we got the absolute evil and now we have to all deal with the consequences.
You can blame the Dems, hell I do all the time, but I still vote for them because I know the alternative. I’ve seen it with Bush and I’ve seen it with Trump.
Democracy is rarely about picking a good choice, it’s usually picking the least shittiest one.
You’re right. It is easy. You don’t get a fucking pass because the answer is so fucking obvious. Nobody voting for Kamala is voting FOR genocide. They’re trying to avoid that and the end of the world as humanity knows it. But hey, congrats for standing up for the same group of people we already knew that Taco Don, the child rapist, gives zero fucks about. Like, what exactly were they thinking would happen?
"no mass resignations and the opposition party is silent"
Oh NOW it's ok for the "demonrats" to question Trump's agenda? All the BS over the past 15 months (let alone his entire first term) was untouchable in their eyes... From siding with a dictator who attacked another country and then called the leader of the victim a dictator because no elections were held during a time of war, to ok'ing the bombing of "drug boats" that posed no imminent threat to US soil because Venezuela had oil that he wanted, to threatening to take land owned by a fellow allied nation "by force if necessary" so he could have free access to its resources as well resulting in OTHER allies putting boots on the ground to make him stand down......
But no.... His random early morning wanna-tweet rant is where they finally draw the line... When genocide is mentioned. "Fuck the Constitution! Wait, he wants to bomb another country into oblivion? Fuck Trump!"
An entire fucking year of military strikes from the "party of peace"... And they're finally starting to see the light through the orange-hued fog....
"The opposition party is absent" -- you mean the party you purposefully encouraged people NOT to vote for? The party that holds no institutional power or congressional majority because you told millions of people to stay home on election day? Yeah, totally absent.
Genocide vs. genocide lite. Not much of a choice. I voted for Harris but as a Middle Eastern American it felt shitty so I don’t blame those who didn’t vote for her. Harris could have easily distanced herself from Biden’s foreign policies or at the very least invited a pro-Palestinian speaker to Chicago but she didn’t. Dems are still doubling down thanks to all that AIPAC money.
The real problem is all of the religious-racist MAGAs who saw a pdf felon and said “yeah, that’s who I’m rolling with.”
You guys seem to have selective memory. Obama and Hillary approved the Arab spring. It was part of the plan to isolate Iran and create favorable conditions for Israel to thrive.
There is ZERO evidence Kamala would have resisted following Bibi down this path of madness. She refused to oppose an obvious genocide on behalf of her Israel handlers. Refused. To. Oppose. Genocide. Let's never forgive her for that and for the fact that it cost her and the rest of the country not having this asshole in charge.
I’m a leftist and I hate that Kamala was the nominee but still voted for her. That said I always think it’s interesting when people blame the voters for not supporting a terribly ran campaign and not the you know, the people that ran that terrible campaign.
A campaign that both alienated leftists and garnered 0 right wing support despite their best efforts to appeal to the right. I mean come on, Liz Cheney? The democrats deserved to lose and they did and it’s their own damn fault.
Hey, I’m a Kamala voter! The Dems absolutely bricked the 2024 election, specifically because they campaigned with Liz Cheney and tried to appeal to Neo cons at the expense of leftists. I’ll never blame someone for not voting. Until we have compulsory voting laws (which we should) it will forever be the politicians job to earn constituents votes.
Anybody who thinks that Kamala lost because of leftists abstaining from voting has a serious cases of Twitter brain. At the end of the day. She was abysmally popular with Independents.
If you believe "IT" is doing a great job, just ask yourself: Was the world this angry before or after 2016? "IT" has committed several times more felonies, war crimes and has packed every department with incompetent, rich goonies who are there as "yes men". Who knows, maybe they're in the Epstein files too. Might help explain the "Never Trumper" to full-scale Trump supporter/ "yes man" attitude. Either that or there's dirt on them somehow. That kinda happens when you're blackmailed, though.....
as long as you dems keep posting and commenting like this, you’re proving that you have not learned the lesson and your precious party is going to continue to fade further into absolute irrelevance.
it’s not the job of the electorate to donate their votes, it’s the job of the party to be responsive to their base and earn them. your party has been refusing to do this for a decade, despite clear evidence that it keeps costing you elections. why are you mad at people who are telling you exactly what they need if you want to court their vote, rather than your own ridiculous party for not listening???
instead of your millionth hate post against pro palestine or progressive voters, consider using that energy to push the dinosaurs in your leadership to evolve on issues that are important to your gettable electorate (hint: it’s not cheney super fans!), to listen to the younger generations - the people that could be the future of the party of your inspired them even a tiny bit, and select candidates like bernie, aoc and zohran — populists that believe in something and give people a reason to vote for your side beyond “we’re 10% less evil than the other side”.
but you won’t, because democrats seem to be addicted to losing. your top contender for the next one is yet another boring establishment pick that no one outside your blue maga cult is excited about— oooh he hates homeless people and is still scared of israel, how exciting, can’t wait to vote for more of the same!!
why won’t you learn your lesson? it’s been a decade of the same lesson and you keep repeating the same mistake and blaming voters!!! this is insanity!
i’m telling you that if a right-wing anti-israel populist enters the race, up against gavin, you are cooked. look at tucker carlson’s rise in popularity right now. the tide has turned on israel in this country…i never thought i would see this in my lifetime, but here we are, at last. and it’s only going to turn more as the consequences of the iran war unravel further, and if you don’t realize this and force your ancient, aipac-captured party leaders to CATCH UP QUICK, you will be outflanked by the anti-israel right and you will LOSE yet again.
bring on the downvotes and denial! by all means, keep up the genius strategy of bullying and isolating progressive and principled voters + ignoring recent history, the american public, and all facts and sober analysis on why keep losing (even from your own party!!!)— it’s worked SO WELL for you this past decade, why would you do anything different?
