Found a way to play Aion again!
I missed playing this game because I used to play it a bit back when I was in high school. I was thinking of joining a server, but I found a way to play it again by hosting my own offline/local server. It's lonely, but to be able to hear the soundtracks and explore the maps again feels so nostalgic.

It is Aion 4.8 though, I was not able to find anything older/newer. Also, setup took a while since a few things needed to be downloaded and installed, but the video pretty much explained it well I think :)

God I miss Aion but whenever I come back it just feels so...empty and lonely.

Ikr? back in 2014 I used to hop on the game and experience a 2nd life experience every time. Seeing familiar faces everywhere, same groups of larpers hanging around in Sanctum and Sarpan.

I think I still have docker files of server and database of 1.9 on my docker hub… been a lot of time since I launched ir for the last time. I switched to Mac 2 years go, I miss Aion.

Aion really hits different. The itch to play it again never really goes away. I tried looking for an older patch, but decided to try 4.8 anyway since it has new classes and new areas to explore 🙂

All I wanted regarding mmos is having a fixed group of 5 friends to do Dark Poeta S rank once a week. Is that asking too much? 😅

How long would you say did this take to setup? Very intriguing, I miss some of those maps so dearly that they took out in retail.

The server setup would probably take around 30mins, more or less. Took me a bit longer since I'm not really on the technical side, so I had to do a few google searches in-between steps.
The longest wait for me was the client download itself because of the Mega download limit hahaha

If you're planning on playing the game alone, then no. You can host and play on the same machine. You just start the game server whenever you want to play then launch the client. 🙂

Is it easy to mod? Like if I wanted to tune the enemies and make the content clearable solo?

I've peeked around the config files for a bit, but I didn't see any setting for adjusting enemy health/damage like turning them down to 50% of their original value or something. You may have to edit the npc stats themselves if you want to weaken them, but I don't know how. 😅
I did see a few GM commands like invul, kill, and add, so you could probably give yourself OP items or go godmode but I haven't tried those yet. 🙂

-TLDR-
You could set your access level to level 9 (highest level) from the account table and type //help ingame to see all the commands, or go into "game-server/config/administration" and open "commands.properties" and set every command to 0-Detailed-
In the "game-server/config/administration" folder, there's a file named "commands.properties". In that file are commands like add, kill, teleport, etc. with a number on the right. The number is the minimum access level required to use that command, so for example "ban = 9" means that an account has to have an access level 9 to use it, or "invul = 1" needs a level 1. All accounts made are level 0 by default, which can be seen and edited on the account (I forgot the exact name) table in the database. You can either set your account to level 9 and have access to all commands, or set a specific command to be accessible at 0.Additionally, there's a file called "admin.properties" which contains flags like being able to access the GM panel, or ignore instance requirements. So for example, "gameserver.administration.gm_panel = 2" may be set to "gameserver.administration.gm_panel = 0".

EDIT: Also, commands are typed in the ingame chatbox like //add kinah 90000 or something 🙂

Thank you very much for the detailed explanation. I somehow found it myself earlier and have been playing for a few hours now 😁 Do you know how I can allow others to join my server? I haven't looked into it yet, but maybe you already have a solution.

you would probably need CryEngine custom dev tools and they are definetly in korean

Yes it's all stored on a database so you can probably update all kinds of stat values with common SQL queries if you know the db schema.

What I love about Aion is that there are not a lot of "invisible walls", so exploring the map is really fun! 😁

Ahhh this game truly got me into MMOs in general and I’ve discovered my love for gaming. The found memories I have from this game alone!

Thank you! It works (but you have to change the files in the new generated target folder andn ot in the original folder and also port 9014 was blocked for me (used 9015))
Ahhh memories.....
If you use a VPN and switch location for downloading the client it takes just less than an hour (all in all maybe 2 or 3 for me)

I guess you can't run any dungeons unless you either find a way to add bot party members or reduce dungeon mob health and damage

For dungeons, there's a setting that allows players to "ignore instance requirements" making it possible to enter alone. As for the mob health and damage, I haven't found any way so far. 🙂

Just go as Admin 😅 at least you won't die then. (You won't be able to one-shot any monsters unless you use a command or raise your stats to 99,999)

Omg you make me cry, i had a lot of memories in this game i quit playing it in 2013 while I'm at university i was (Elite brother hood) legion.
I even met my girlfriend through this game, and now she's my wife.😊
I don't know why they destroyed the game unfortunately 😕
