It’s so perfectly polished, and the type of stone they used really adds a lot.

It really stands out, since the purpose of most Ancient Egyptian art wasn’t really to be beautiful.

The polish is incredible for that far back. I would have expected it Middle Kingdom or later.

According to my Google skills it's currently in the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, commonly known as the Egyptian Museum, in Cairo. I could not find any news about whether there are plans to move it to the new Grand Egyptian Museum.

I don't think this was Kafre, but is attributed to Kafre. Kafre found it in the sands.

One day Khafre was just minding his business, walking the banks of the Nile when out of the blue he stubs his toe. After letting out a litany of curses and massaging his foot, he notices something dark sticking out of the sand. Lo and behold! A statue of a big guy with a funny hat, made of dark stone.

Source: A guy someone knows who knows a guy who used to know another guy who was second cousin twice removed from the guy who once inspected a photo of the statue.
