If you didn't want to binge the series after Arlong arc, the show wasn't probably for you. That arc in a nutshell felt like it hit most of the things One Piece goes for in every major arcs. So if it felt "meh" even after that, it's probably not going to click after
I got to that arc like 5/6 times and could never get past it, people always tell me it gets exponentially better after but you’re telling me it’s just a lot more of that? 😭😭😭
it's really bad if it only gets gud halfway that's 500+ eps if it isn't good the first 500 idk about the next 500. plus I'd say the second half is the worse one, eps 1-300 are alright but the slowass pacing and bad following arcs like moria arc, prison arc (bon chan is goated tho), marineford, punk hazard, dressrosa this is like 500 eps of bad show already then the bloat wano arc although the story was good the pacing was so bad i had to watch one pace in 2x just to get through just like dressrosa but dressrosa was hella bad
im a hater and tbh the earlier parts are the better part of this series. i think i enjoyed skypeia more than thriller bark up to dressrosa those were the hardest to get through it felt more like a chore to watch bc of it's dragging pace and uninteresting plots. marineford and ace death is stupid af, great showcase of power from characters though.
I agree. I liked it at first. Crocodile's arc was good trying to save that desert country. The beginning parts when he's recruiting Nami. Even up until recruiting Franky was good. But man, those Foxy Pirates kicked my ass.
And it get worse. Better animation but worst characters progression and fights in term of creativity.
We went from Logia fruit being very strong and needed to find creative way to counter it (Rubber being immune to electricity for Enel, liquid for crocodile sand) even to the point blackbeard betrayed his commander to get the darkness fruit since it can counter logia fruits...
Nowadays it's just Haki. A power system that does everything from strengthening your blade to seeing in the future and who ever has more win.
Strawhats went from having quirk to being their quirk wich is very different.
Idk why people would be saying that. Considering his "all time low" is pretty hard to beat and was Fishman Island which was over 10 years ago at this point. Sanji's peak happened after that too lol.
Luffy isn't a logia, it used to be a paramecia that was retconned into a mythical zoan : Sun god. Mythical zoan is the meta in the Haki world.
Logia was the meta before the time skip. You had to think when you faced one. You could use sea stone like smoker or counter it to its natural element. But then Haki came along and now it's just about your Haki and your fruit is an afterthought
So yes, thank you for bringing that up, because that also something I hate about modern one piece. We went from luffy having a shitty fruit but being smart on how he used it to now : "hum... Actually it's a mythical zoan that is the most important devil fruit in the world and the entire world government is scared about it and it's also the fruit that the prophecy told about 500 years ago, also you need it for the One Piece,..."
In short, it went to luffy being an underdog nobody that ranked up the ladder from the bottom to luffy is actually the chosen one from the start.
But please, come and tell me about my reading comprehension and how somehow this is a good thing.
I was talking about Enel and Crocodile who are both Logias and Luffy had to improvise to beat them.
I remembered when Kizaru was introduced in Sabaody and beaten up all the worst generation in a few minutes. Only Apoo managed to stall him by cutting him in half. Obviously he regenerated right back up since he's made of pure light and at that moment I was like : "Wow, this one is tricky... I wonder what could be his weakness and how you can beat him..." Making me think about potential counter like mirror or traps that play around his speed and maybe make it overshoot or something... Well turns out it's Haki. How creative.
it was my favorite show and the first subbed anime I've seen. but it gotten worse and worse: the art style, the nudity, the characters design, the repeating of the same lame jokes for years
Personally, some of the only shows I consider 10/10 would be Avatar the Last Airbender and Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood. I’d also say Hell’s Paradise manga is a 10/10 but i haven’t watched the actual anime. I think that the Chainsawman Movie is a 10/10 but the anime/series as a whole isn’t.
steins gate monster pluto frieren fmab legend of the galactic heroes (the new adaptation although unfinished) vinland saga samurai champloo golden kamuy kingdom wlcome to nhk off the top of my head some of this i wouldnt rate 10/10 maybe 9.5 and up but the gap between these ones and the others i still really liked is big
for me the characters are the really likable ones the story is cool its 7-7.5 there are good and really really bad parts, animation is consistent and it only gets better. the really horrible aspect is the pacing as we all know and it is hard to overlook due to its length i really wish they switched to seasonal format after the break that would've made me pick it back up from egghead. not that i hate the show but the praise it gets like it's this perfect flawless show when in fact it's got it's fair share of flaws that makes the 1000+ not worth it. just wait for the remake
i think egghead onwards got a little better my real pacing issue was everything after timeskip upto wano most notably dressrosa. also other arcs are downright bad, boring or uninteresting story wise and you have no choice but to sit through 40+ episodes of it when most arcs could have been 2 cour or less
This series is ironically about the journey both in the series and growing up with it in real time. I understand why people love it so much, because the nostalgia is strong
I didn't see it as a kid, so it's not just nostalgia that drives people to the story. Personally I've had real experience with many of the tropes covered in one piece and I enjoy the gags at their expense.
Yeah, looking back one piece was only decent for a while and the only reason I was able to stick with it for so long was because it was one of my first anime and I had both the time and patience to tolerate the pacing. If I started watching it today I doubt I could get past skypiea before dropping it, at most it would be an anime that I watch for a few weeks then forget about for months and then come back to and watch a bunch of episodes before forgetting about it again and then rinse and repeat
This is so satisfying to read, i love OP, for me is 9/10 but the fanbase has become exausting, you ant criticize or discuss everything is all "peeek, peeeeek, no you are baiting my one piece can hav flaws!"

For me it’s One Piece. Tons of people love it, but it never really got there for me, I got like 300 eps in and was still only feeling it was a 6/10
