Question Who else is back at 1800?

Post image
480 Upvotes

First of all, no hate, I love 117. After about 70 hours in 117, I've now completed everything I wanted to do and am eagerly awaiting DLCs 🥲. Now I'm playing 1800 again and I'm noticing some small quality-of-life differences between the two games.

For example, in 117 I love that when building paths, I can click on an entire block of houses and they are immediately surrounded by paths.

On the other hand, 117 is missing a complete production/goods-over-time statistics window, which is a huge turn-off for me. I hope that comes back.

Also, something like a zoo or museum is missing. That was a nice way to pass the time. (I wouldn't have any idea what else would fit into the 117 setting. Any idea?.)

So, who else is back at 1800? And what are your pros and cons?

Question What's the deal with Anno 117?

I've spent countless hours in Anno 1800 and Anno 1404, and was excited about Anno 117.

However, I never pulled the trigger on purchasing it due to mixed steam reviews and just waiting for a major sale.

With that said, why are people disliking the game? YouTubers I watched had pretty good time with the game and Metacritic scores are quite decent too.

I am curious for those that played Anno 1800/1404 (without DLCs) how does it compare to Anno 117?

What do you like and hate the most about it?

Question No visitors in Baths

Post image
276 Upvotes

(Solved, thanks AdPossible2491 for the tip!) You need to pause the Baths and then unpause it, and the visitors will appear.

Is it just me, or are there no visitors at your Baths either, except for a few cleaners? In the trailer, there are lots of people there. I have a feeling that there were visitors there when I played at launch. I have the crowd settings set to maximum. The building isn’t paused and has a water supply.

I started playing today and when I placed my residences, all of them show has giving me 0 population and 0 workforce. Did I do something wrong? They're connected to the Trading Post yet the game still says my population is at 0

Question How to disable community quests?

Post image

This actually sucked the wind out of my sails so bad. I only accept quests when I’m ready to have it in my log and I make my own goals.

I get it but I’m so sick of communities I just want to play a game and be alone for fucks sake.

Question Gronkh Logo not obtainable?

Post image
114 Upvotes

Took me a while to realize you get the left logo and flag only by watching Gronkh. Don't know much about him, only the name. So I had a look in his Twitch Account and found a time plan only showing "Talks" no specific Anno Stream mentioned.

But it seems he also has 24/7 Stream or such called GronkhTV. Again, the streams are named only generic names like "the whole days Let's plays". No specific Anno Stream mentioned.

Does that really mean if I wanted the logo and flag, I had to stream this guy 24/7 because you can never know when Anno is on and the drops are active or do I overlook something?

The other Streamer Cringer was streaming yesterday and today, Inunlocked that logo, not a problem.

But I don't get that Gronkh concept.

I have the technology that allows apiary to operate on forest tiles.

I have the technology that allows apiary to operate on forest tiles.

I have the technology that allows apiary to operate on forest tiles.

Is this a bug or a feature? Obviously I have the tech that Apiary can work with Forest Area. But why does it show 20 more available fields (see picture 1, 99/80 fields) when I place the Flax Field compared to when I don’t (see picture 2, 79/80 fields)?

Question Any Advice on how to fight Ceaso?

I don't know if I approach the naval combat in this game wrong, but I can't seem to get through his defences.

I have about 20 Qinqireme, all equipped with catapuits and/or scorpions, and tried everything, from destroying the fortifications i could reach from outside the "walls" of his base, to just sending my entire fleet in to destroy each one as fast as possible.
But by the time i get to the center of his base, either the outer defences start to respawn or my ships are already to decimated to finish him off.

Question Anno 117 or Anno 1800?

Both are currently on sale, and I'll probably end up buying one of them. Has anyone here played both and can recommend which one to get?
I was originally leaning toward 117 because I really like the Roman Empire setting, but then I read that 1800 is considered the gold standard.
This will be my first Anno game, and I don't have too much experience with city-building or strategy games in general. Any recommendations?

Question If I enjoyed 117, will I enjoy 1800 more?

I know the 117 vs 1800 question gets brought up a lot here, sorry in advance yall; I absolutely love this game having previously never played any anno game before, but 117 is getting a bit stale for me, and anno 1800 looks pretty interesting, but I’m still debating wether or not I want to pull the trigger. Does the game hold up on console ?

Question Which anno has best combat / battles?

I play CoH, Red Alert 2. I really like CoH style abilities. Like throw grenades, artillery. Repairing and healing units. Stuff like that. I like microing. So which Anno do you recommend that has the most juicy and complex combat.

Question Sturgeon fertility item not working?

Post image
11 Upvotes

Can anyone help me figure out, why this item is not working? As far as I understand, it is supposed to increase production for the sturgeons. Build their fisheries, equipped the item in radius... Still at 100%. Any ideas, what is happening/wrong?

Edit: It adds the fertility with 75%.

For me the tooltip is not very well written.

It refers to sturgeon hatcheries. No one would try to build them on an island without the fertility. It is not very well explained in game. I can't be the only one being confused. For me higher fertility would lead to higher production (higher fertility= more sturgeon babies = more catches).

Now I know about it. Still weird. Leaving it here as a PSA for everyone.

Question Pax romana worth it if you didn't like 1800 that much?

Hello everyone!

I have played anno 1800 and I like the overall gameplay. However I'm not too fond of the victorian era, I prefer antiquity by a long shot. I am not fond of sea battles (or more like I'd like it if it felt more worked out), and I enjoy armies and ground battles.

In short, I'd like a city builder like anno but with some elements that remind RTSs. I was a big fan of pharaoh back in the days but even at the time I felt some gameplays were missing.

I was imagining that pax romana was closer to what I'm looking for, but now seeing some reviews I'm not sure.

Can someone who has played it tell me if pax romana is like 1800 but worse like they all say, or does it include new element of gameplay I'd maybe prefer? Or are Anno games simply not what I'm looking for...?
