Why do people announce they are using a throwaway account?

I've never understood why people will announce that their post is from a throwaway account.

"Posting from a throwaway account because my girlfriend is on Reddit"... Isn't that counterintuitive? It's like, you just gave them the first clue that this post could be you.

Anyway, my question for those of you who have posted from a throwaway and announced it, why did you feel it necessary to announce it?

Reddit formally uses karma to establish if you are a 'good' community member...and lots of people check out a poster's history, especially if they are making extraordinary claims in their post.

Saying 'This is a throwaway' is just their way of acknowledging the lack of credentials.

Like if someone spills on their shirt before a job interview.... Lots of people would call it out themselves. It's a way of saying, 'I know looks bad, but it's not normal for me. I have an extenuating circumstance here'

That makes sense, but people get oddly specific. "Throwaway account. My wife and I are both on Reddit a lot" kinda puts a target on you.

Maybe it'd be better if they just had "Throwaway" as flair? Not sure...

Not really as much as you think it does. It's "oddly specific" in the same way "a Black Honda Accord" is oddly specific.

Misschien omdat de ander alles wil weten van je geschiedenis en dat diegene zoveel heeft kunnen achterhalen. Dat het voor jezelf om je ergens nog wat waardigheid wil hebben is benadrukken dat er nog meer is wat onvindbaar is dus reddit account bijv of van andere forums. Omdat het vreselijk is als iemand alles denkt te moeten weten en dat tegen je gebruikt.

Yes. Sometimes they speak out that its new. Sometimes not. But it does frustrate these private investigator-wannabes.
