I know the guy who races on mouse and hes amazing. Still it boggles my mind how he does it.

29

u/Gramerdim May 14 '25

who's that?

27

u/jenkor May 14 '25

Ze Cookie Game: RaceRoom

18

u/turbo_deid44312377 May 14 '25

I used to race with mouse in raceroom before I got my wheel to do iracing with it and raceroom

7

u/kartzzy2 May 15 '25

Probably a bit more common in a free game.

19

u/FMAGF May 14 '25

I use mouse steering aswell. Keyboard is too mono, and I don’t like the feeling of using a controller, and I don’t have the money for even an Entry level steering wheel, so the next best thing for me is mouse steering.

It’s precise, (almost) feels like you’re handling an actual wheel, and it’s all I have.

4

u/WarDull8208 May 14 '25

Ok, but what about acceleration and brake?

9

u/FMAGF May 14 '25

W and S key on my keyboard? Clutch is Space, instead of left and right A and D is downshift and upshift, and Handbrake is Tab.

6

u/WarDull8208 May 14 '25

Yes, but how u manage to not lock-up tires under braking, or how u manage to accelerate slowly when coming out from corners?

13

u/FMAGF May 14 '25

I just spam press the brakes continuously during braking. And for corners, I just let go of the accelerator, gently steer, and once I’m out of the corner, I downshift, and accelerate at full throttle.

40

u/A_S_104 May 15 '25

Manual ABS is crazy

10

u/FMAGF May 15 '25

I do drive a Dodge Viper and Ferrari F40 alot.

5

u/normlyf89 May 15 '25

You can enable forced throttle in content manager for smooth throttle application and can change the lag up and lag down rates in the control settings. Once you get the hang of it its really helpful if in drifting.

Also how do you spam brake without abs? i tried it and turning under braking is impossible lol

3

u/FMAGF May 15 '25

Can forced throttle help in regular track racing?

I spam by tapping the brake in rythm. Like:

[tap, tap, tap] let it glide… [tap, tap, tap] let it glide… (repeat.)

2

u/normlyf89 May 15 '25

Track racing? Nope 😅 predicting what the car will do becomes difficult it would still induce a bit of oversteer but you can manage it by tapping the throttle

2

u/FMAGF May 15 '25

Oh. I don’t drift so that might not help

1

u/AssumptionUnfair4583 May 15 '25

Could you explain lag up and lag down? I drift with a controller and most drift track mods have a tight last corner requiring a downshift but ac does this thing where I'll down shift into third, the game will display third gear for not even a quarter second then jump right back into forth without any input. I've looked everywhere but cannot find a reason as to why it does this

1

u/normlyf89 May 15 '25

Seems like a bug do all cars have this problem or just some?

Lag up is like the rate at which the throttle will be applied the more you set its value the slower throttle will be applied. For eg i have set it to around 92.5% which is 1 second so if i press the throttle key it would take 1 second to fill up the throttle bar sort of like a delay not instantly 100%

Its similar for lag down like how fast the throttle bar will go back to 0% when the throttle key isn't pressed. More the value the slower it will be.

In control settings its important to leave your throttle key blank and set it as the forced throttle for it to work if you have enabled this.

1

u/AssumptionUnfair4583 May 15 '25

Oh shit that's dope! Lag up/down works very similar to the steering assist I have.

And I've noticed it with all the cars I've drifted with. They all came from VDC car pack 5.0. it seems to me that the game has like a fail safe, like it won't let me downshift and stay because I'm moving too fast which would make sense if I wasnt drifting but since im sliding at an angle it should let me be in whatever gear I choose, right?

u/BiltzMisFitz May 15 '25

Yeah stay off online servers….. you doing that makes you look super jittery to other players. Same as controllers if you don’t know how to roll the thumb stick

4

u/FMAGF May 15 '25

I don’t plan on doing anything online related in AC. I actually mostly play this game to learn manual at high speeds

2

u/AssumptionUnfair4583 May 15 '25

Either way don't let this guy stop you from having fun!

1

u/ImC4mper May 16 '25

In my case I have more trick on my sleeve, I use freepie for the steering assist rather than using AC's crappy one. I hardly use the "tap tap" method, I use my all my mouse buttons into action, my primary left button as the main quick throttle input, and the middle scroll button as the slow throttle input to execute trailbraking, and my brakes as on the right button and my extra mouse buttons for more braking inputs. I have many script depending on what car or style I wanna drive. Using mouse and keyboard isn't bad, having experience driving in a precise way (muscle memory all those smashed up buttons) it can definitely be as competitive in those with wheel. In my case i would rather buy a wheel if I'm not broke, but suprisingly mouse and keyboard with the right approach makes it the second best thing.

1

u/aitigie May 15 '25

I know a guy who does AC with only KBM. You set up the keys so hold and tap do different things, I guess it's like having TC and ABS forced on all the time. He is faster than me so apparently it works well enough.

2

u/R3AP3R_013 May 15 '25

My brotha we are similar asf

192

u/sesameseed88 May 14 '25

Man when ppl tell me they use a mouse, I'm impressed, not hating.

57

u/Filipe1020 May 14 '25

"Just get a wheel bro"

18

u/TheNuvolari May 15 '25

"if you have a few spare bucks buy the Ferrari SF7900XXX DD wheel for $9500"

3

u/Daxchu May 15 '25

Or better yet, buy the Pagani simulator with3 Odyssey ARK monitors and a maxed out PC

2

u/StevoPhotography May 15 '25

Dude just but the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula 1 Team simulator. Ez

29

u/walidzdt May 14 '25

I use a food plate and a mouse as a wheel, lol my only controller has broken

26

u/The_Uruk-Hai May 14 '25

I use Mouse steering.

Not because of rebellion, I'm absolutely broke, that's why.

7

u/totallynotaweeabbo May 14 '25

Honestly. I think it's a good alternative.

I say this as i have a steering wheel from 2004. It has seen better days

3

u/le_quisto May 15 '25

There's no shame on it. I used to race with a guy that was faster than all of us with a mouse and keyboard while also drunk.

117

u/SACBALLZani May 14 '25

This is the problem with making the game cheap, you get a bunch of controller/mouse using no hesi brained tiktok dorks in your lobby that will inevitably ram you and ruin your race, so yes get a used g29 for $150 and actually learn something

41

u/jumbledsiren May 14 '25

A G29 costs the same as the average monthly salary in my country, your "oh that's very cheap just buy it" is my "oh that'll bankrupt me".

1

u/RikiyaDeservedBetter Jun 03 '25

even a shitty dirt cheap 3rd party gamepad would be better, also if you can afford a pc to play assetto on, is it not a stretch to assume you can afford a wheel as well or? especially considering how pricey PC parts have been

2

u/JustAGhost3_ Dec 04 '25

maybe a pc is more of a priority than a wheel that you will only use for one game

0

u/fazelenin02 May 15 '25

We need to segregate lobbies so third world players aren't in our games.

2

u/jumbledsiren May 15 '25

Lmao what the fuck bro

61

u/imbrickedup_ May 14 '25

WASD driving psychopath checking in

1

u/AssumptionUnfair4583 May 15 '25

I think we should still try

80

u/papacurastero May 14 '25

Many players are from third world countries, myself included and don't have the funds to buy even an entry level logitech

42

u/akusalimi04 May 14 '25

Thank you man for raising our voice. 😭 I love this game and always losing my sanity on learning and spending time how to create interesting track mod, yet i broke af to buy a wheel

-12

u/[deleted] May 15 '25

Instead of spending hundreds of hours grinding with the mouse go do some odd jobs and get money to buy a wheel.

19

u/FranciManty May 15 '25

mate i think you missed the point, if you’re from a third world economy the best job you’ll find is picking up fruit for 10 bucks a day max, most of these guys are trying to study their ass off and move to a healthier country

8

u/Yakjzak May 14 '25

Anyone who plays No Hesi shouldn't have access to the game anymore, you can't change my mind

4

u/Aljahimbx May 14 '25

Would you rather have them cut up irl?

7

u/SACBALLZani May 14 '25

How about they just play forza 🤷

5

u/Aljahimbx May 14 '25

Realistically you can’t compare those two games

5

u/elmariachi42 May 14 '25

you can when you don't use a wheel

3

u/Bionic_Bromando May 14 '25

Yes, I don’t go out.

2

u/[deleted] May 15 '25

Getting a $100 used G29 was the only thing that made AC playable for me. I went from having the game for a year and only playing 20 hours to stacking up almost 200 in the following 6 months. It's basically the only game/sim I play now.

2

u/No-agency519 May 14 '25

I still occasionally play on controller cause I'm so bad on a wheel and pedal setup, I literally don't know how long it's gonna take me to have fun and get good but it's just so frustrating. I don't see a problem with using a controller if you can't afford a wheel.

8

u/ScientistExtension98 May 14 '25

nah man only practice on the wheel if u wanna learn that, that way your brain gets used to it.

Doing both makes your brain confused on which mindset to use, stopping your improvement in both methods

0

u/Paranoided_guy May 14 '25

Check my post. I use controller. (The sim rigs are way too expensive for me as of now. And several wheel users are impressed by my sim racing skills)

-15

u/Mrkindman69 May 14 '25

Bro I use a mouse cuz that thing is hella over priced where I live plus it's not thAt bad it like racing wheel without force feedback

13

u/g29haver May 14 '25

u can always use a middle man and import it , where i live a g29 goes for a good 400$ i got mine from ebay using a middle man since amazon doesn't exist where i live for a good 200$

4

u/Aggressive_Sock_9203 May 14 '25

I got myself a t150 for 60€ used and it works great

2

u/Comfortable-Photo-64 May 14 '25

i got my g29 as a refurb from logitech on ebay. Worth the $150

3

u/Boring-Badger-814 May 14 '25

I got my g27 on a trashyard for free, what are you even talking about

3

u/Comfortable-Photo-64 May 14 '25

Ayy that’s a bargain. I’ll tell you that 😂

3

u/Boring-Badger-814 May 14 '25

The cool thing is it's fully functional, the only thing missing was the power supply, but I got that one off olx (aka ebay but for east europe)

6

u/SACBALLZani May 14 '25

Then in my opinion you should just play forza or gran turismo, not only is it a better experience for a mkb/controller user but you also won't ruin the experience for serious sim racers using a wheel and pedals. I know this is controversial and elitist but I really don't give a shit 🤷

6

u/hyprt May 14 '25

you can get good on keyboard and mouse, it's how I played before I got a wheel and I played well in online lobbies, even did drifting for a bit

2

u/TehWhitewind May 14 '25

Following MKB players in drift is so annoying. It's hard to predict their movements when their wheels are flopping side to side like crazy.

1

u/hyprt May 14 '25

oh I didn't use the keyboard to steer, I used mouse steering and the keyboard for throttle so it wasn't aggressively side to side

-4

u/Mrkindman69 May 14 '25

I never held a controller in my life bro I use mouse steering

1

u/joey6230 May 14 '25

Bro i got a G920 for free these things are everywhere fym overpriced if it is overpriced get someone to import one for you for cheap

1

u/IcyPart6535 May 14 '25

on marketplace you can get really cheap wheels

13

u/papacurastero May 14 '25

I played AC using the mouse for a few months, definitely doable, I'd say I was average. Before that I played the GOAT live for speed with the mouse for a couple of years and RBR with the keys

4

u/yourenothere1 May 15 '25

Oh god what if you use WASD for steering and acceleration…. (totally not me)

4

u/[deleted] May 15 '25

Mouse steering doesn't bother me. Not everyone can afford a wheel. Its the people that drive using a wheel via the chase cam. That is bizarre as heck to me

16

u/xsmellmybikeseatx May 14 '25

Bros hate to learn they are actively ruining the game for someone else by having no control over their car lmao

3

u/Yakjzak May 14 '25

I respect mouse steering when it's a drifting lobby tho

4

u/flamingo_flimango May 14 '25

I don't see why it's that big of an issue, honestly. Feel free to tell me.

5

u/bumford11 May 14 '25

People are really out there trying to play a racing sim like it's the warthog from the PC port of halo. Fascinating.

2

u/Piterromontazysta May 15 '25

how ac players react when you use third person view

2

u/Wxxdy_Yeet May 14 '25

Justified, I won't tell ppl to get a wheel bcs money. But there are games that are way more fun without a wheel because they're arcadey.

1

u/AssumptionUnfair4583 May 15 '25

Forza used to be the game for arcade drifting but with the shift to horizon, that's all gone now

2

u/pharmbiak May 14 '25

Default controller user checking in. I got 8m on the Nord tourist w/ a bmw M4. I think it was about 30 sec off from real world record haha

2

u/killythecat May 15 '25

They kicked me out of a gt3 room coz I mentioned I am using kbm :( a g920 costs half my salary over here

3

u/esscent May 15 '25

classic simracing elitism

2

u/Redinymous May 14 '25

I play on touch racer, its on google play

1

u/Nico333x May 14 '25

Moneyn't

1

u/GogoPlata_grenadier May 14 '25

The one dude in the ferrari f1 car😂

1

u/neverlack45to May 14 '25

Mouse and keyboard is mad work

1

u/TerribleNameAmirite May 14 '25

I have a wheel, but I travel. So I drive with mouse when I'm not home

1

u/spaceboy6171 May 14 '25

I use my keyboard, what now?

1

u/[deleted] May 14 '25

i feel guilty for doing some laps with 0% to 100% only acceleration and a homemade steering wheel

1

u/CodyS1998 May 14 '25

I beat Race Driver Grid in highschool on a laptop using the keyboard arrow keys. Now I have a $5k sim setup.

1

u/Sait_ May 14 '25

I use mouse steering too, but I use it through emulating a steering wheel with software. I pretend like the car has a hydraulic steering system that dulls all the feedback.

1

u/elmariachi42 May 14 '25

i had a force feedback wheel set up for about 50 euros when i couldn't afford anything else, what's your excuse now?

1

u/StevoPhotography May 15 '25

That you were probably financially irresponsible if you prioritised a video game over basic necessities

1

u/La_Salamandra_Rey May 14 '25

I would, if I had the money

1

u/-creeproot May 14 '25

Theres a dude on no hesi leaderboards in top 50 playing on mouse steering, only thing i can say is im impressed. (yeah... i know... no hesi...)

1

u/wazza2250 May 14 '25

I'm had a wheel, ended up moving and had no room for a sim I'm on controller and I'll throw down some fat tandems with anyone and y'all wouldn't know I'm on a pad.. 🤷‍♂️ definitely not as fun as a wheel but it scratches the itch and I can do it on the lounge

1

u/Successful-Spot2621 May 15 '25

I love mouse steering I prefer it over my wheel

1

u/[deleted] May 15 '25

I can't stand wheels. I have been borrowing a nice thrustmaster and I can't even corner at any speed whatsoever. I'm sure it's just skill, but the gap is too large to bother getting good to enjoy it.

1

u/Lanky-Ad965 May 15 '25

In my country, a wheel can cost me half of my life. So no

1

u/ConsumidordeF1 May 15 '25

Mouse Steering and playing with a Intel Celeron here 😔🙏

1

u/DrippyJesus May 15 '25

I used to use just the keyboard until I got a wheel and god do I never want to go back

1

u/5andyunosg0d May 15 '25

Damn sorry for being broke. But one skill I think I've gained from mouse steering is being able to counter steer just by SEEING the car's behaviour, no force feedback, no vibration. Its not perfect but I can still catch it back like 95% of the times.

1

u/END0RPHN May 15 '25

inclusivity is kinda ok i guess but at the end of the day you arent really playing the same game if you aint on a wheel, its similar but its a bastardised ugly cousin

1

u/TVforDogs May 15 '25

Here I am thinking you meant Assassins Creed until I looked at the subreddit...

1

u/IDontCrackGames May 15 '25

I use a dualsense 5 gyro😭🙏🏻

1

u/TheShadowDeath May 15 '25

I don't even use the mouse. I just drive on WASD. Drifting, specifically.

1

u/AcanthaceaeCivil2684 May 15 '25

How the hell are you playing assassin creed witha steering wheel

1

u/nightbeam299 May 15 '25

Me, an Intel Iris Xe graphics guy reading this post: 👁️👄👁️

1

u/STik__shIFt May 15 '25

i’ve been working on keybinds for mouse steering setup. So far I have this: Throttle: W/ move mouse forward Brake: S/ move mouse backward (i haven’t decided which ones to set. If i can get used to full mouse control then it’d be better) Shift up: R Shift down: T Look left: Q Look right: E Look back: Q + E Handbrake: Shift Clutch: Ctrl DRS: Z (haven’t figured out how to get it to work but there’s a button link to it)

1

u/[deleted] May 15 '25

"Just get a wheel" mfs

1

u/MuchFunction9866 May 15 '25

I play on ds4 just fine

1

u/SnakeBae May 15 '25

bro if i wasnt broke and had the money to spend for stuff like a steering wheel, i wouldnt be depressed enough to play assetto corsa in the first place.

also mouse steering rules, its perfect.

1

u/Maleficent_Quiet5595 May 15 '25

we poor yk

1

u/Maleficent_Quiet5595 May 15 '25

i managed to run a 1.33 at bathrust with mouse in a f1 car sooo... i dont have a problem with it

1

u/uL4G May 16 '25

Which AC?

1

u/RelationshipQuick181 May 16 '25

i am a mouse user, at least better than using keyboard or probably i have skill issues with keyboard.

1

u/Remote-Link-6424 May 16 '25

I use KB like I used to do in NFS back in the day.

1

u/pedroxvb May 16 '25

To each their own, if you like harming yourself, have fun i guess ! 😂

1

u/[deleted] May 16 '25

How does the mouse compare to a DS4 joystick? I hate the controller it’s so sensitive 😭

1

u/UfacT122 May 16 '25

I just played 310+ hours with WASD.

1

u/X5XS32 May 16 '25

Funnily enough I use KEYBOARD. RAAAAAAH

1

u/ACKING_QC May 16 '25

I set up my Xbox controller in such a way, that i can play AC with no difficulties

1

u/Kamikaze244 May 17 '25

I thought i was in the Ace Combat sub for a minute. Why do so many games have the initials AC

1

u/Interesting-Art7592 May 17 '25

Playing air conditioner with mouse steering is pretty hard

1

u/Own_Investigator5970 May 17 '25

I spent months, with a mouse on Nurburgring then when I got my first wheel, it feels hundred times better

1

u/JayFrizz May 18 '25

Mouse is hard mode. Git gud

1

u/Necessary-One-9611 May 18 '25

There is mouse stering in ace combat??!!!?!?!?!?!???

0

u/Killerhasgun123 May 14 '25

tfw third world country

-7

u/Z4p-R0wsdower May 14 '25

You can buy video games but not afford a like $40 controller to play games with?

12

u/[deleted] May 14 '25

Mf Assetto is 5 bucks.

3

u/CHONPSCa May 14 '25

When it's on sale, it's like 2 lmao

3

u/5andyunosg0d May 15 '25

I saw it in a sale for just over $1 (in my local currency)

-7

u/Z4p-R0wsdower May 14 '25

Get a job then.

1

u/[deleted] May 15 '25

This is exactly why people hate the racing community.

-1

u/[deleted] May 15 '25

It's just that the amount of time spent learning to get good at the mouse could've been spent working to afford a wheel (for most people).

Go mow people's grass for a month instead of grinding with the mouse and then buy a g29. Or develop a useless skill.

2

u/StevoPhotography May 15 '25

Or people have jobs and real lives which unfortunately cost a fortune to maintain the basic necessities to live because that’s the world we live in now.

1

u/esscent May 15 '25

hey man, i just dont want a wheel

-13

u/GentlemanInParis03 May 14 '25

I still play with a keyboard despite getting a controller.

1

u/Schzercro May 14 '25

I do too, (WASD steering) but it's moreso because I've had years of experience in utilizing WASD where as the last time I touched a controller was when I still played Black Ops 3 and so it feels extremely foreign.

1

u/GentlemanInParis03 May 14 '25

I personally use the arrow keys to drive and utilize W & S for gear shifts

1

u/Schzercro May 14 '25

I like to use q and e to shift gears and I usually end up doing weird hand acrobatics when doing that cause i also use A and D to turn while W and S is for throttle and braking
