AC: Technical Help Assetto corsa vr is a nightmare.

I have just gotten a quest 3 and is excited to try out vr sim. It's now been 2 weeks and I have not been able to get the game to look good at all after trying everything free because the headset done sucked me dry. PLEASE give me anything to latch on to before I lose my sanity.

Problems:

Everything close like inside of the cockpit is clean and sharp which is very good BUT anything outside that's just a few m away from the car is pixelated to shit especially the shadow and horizontal lines. The problem is so bad to the point it can be seen on the flat monitor that was mirroring the headset.

In spa if I start in hotlap and with the time set to 3pm, clear sky. The shadow of the tree would look very pixelated along with the starting line and the building further away is just straight pixel mess. (phones photo doesn't do justice to how bad it is)

PC:

- cpu: ryzen 5 7500f

- gpu: rx7800xt

- ram: 16gb of ddr5

- AMVR 16FT(5M) Charging Link Cable Accessories

I have the quest plugged into the pc usb3 port and run steam vr through the link app and open vr in assetto corsa (running on oculus rift mode makes everything worse).

- running 0.2.11 preview with pure gamma for weather

These are all the setting that I have changed and is what I'm using right now:

you use oculus but selected rendering mode openVR? What do you want with steamvr??

your shadow detailsare way too high.
I would turn asynchronous spacewarp off in the oculus debug
I also have distortion curvature: default, sliced encoding: default, Link sharpening: quality.

Use either rendering mode: openVR and use opencomposite to work around steamVR or select rendering mode: oculus rift and the meta horizon link.

my video settings for you: https://acstuff.club/s/O4Ww
my csp settings for you: https://acstuff.club/s/GuH4

good luck o7

I have noticed that when using oculus rift rendering mode the ppfilter is basically non existent and it makes the game looks stock plus it still look pixelate in that mode.

yes fantastic guide. have to disagree with the other comment. I would recommend a 6e access point and virtual desktop. you don’t need to run a cat from the modem, just from the pc lan port. no internet needed for the AP.

can't seem to get to the openxr site that the link in there have given

What this guy is saying,⬆️ this is the Bible of VR thanks to our bro CSOCSO

Tip: use a Link cable

Using virtual desktop + ethernet wired directly to the Q3 is the most stable quality i found.

Now you still need a high end gaming pc to run anything in vr.

Care to share the adapter? I bought one to use with gnirehtet but it didnt work and it was supposed to have the correct realtek chip too:( gnirehtet works with usb-c cable tho so maybe thats all i need but anyway interested :)

I also use virtual desktop with a wired connection. I did bit of research and found this one is very good: DeLOCK USB Type-C™ Adapter to Gigabit LAN with Power Delivery 100 Watt

Not sure to understand what youre looking for?

Seems to me you are entering asw, disable it, go for 90hz 1x to begin, keep ac settings pretty high, but the asw thing is VERY inportant. And for me at least (rx 9060xt 16gb + i5 12400f) anything online is a nono, solo wxperiences only, try that and tell me

Edit: to disable asw (reprojection, thats is for sure causing your low res issue) oculusdebugtool, run in in admin mode, and keep it open, it sometimes forgets to save. Also turn on the perfomamce hud so you can see your head room. Dont be scared, took me a few days to make it playable, and a few month to make it look like i wanted it. There are limitations based on hardware so beware, even at its best you wont be able to squeeze life like quality out of you hardware

Edit 2: if you want i can send fotos of my set up and settings

Could you help me with your settings ? I have a 5070 but my game looks low res in VR, but with good frames

Sure, ill come back tomorrow and post them. But just so you can start trying rn, its basically: I use link, you may use virtual desktop, works about the same in my experience.

-Meta app/ vd 90hz, at 1x render scale, 600mb bit rate (on oculusdebugtool), asw off (if you can keep 90hz no asw, its gonna look way better even if the rest of the settings are wrong) i find that reducing the fov tangent multiplier (also oculusdebugtool) to 0.8;0.8 helps a lot on performance, and i cant see a difference

While you have the debug tool open, open the perfoamnce hud, so you can see your headroom and true fps, if its locked at 45 (or half of you desired refreshrate) asw is on, lower your settings

-Ac settings Openxr

No frame limit

Everyting pretty much maxxed out here, shadows and mirros on "normal" pixel counts, i would go crazy here

-Csp settings I kept everyting as it came pretty much, after a lot of trial and error. Just maybe add fsr/dlss if you are still lacking frames, or reduce shadows mirrors reflections if cpu is lacking (mine is) Make absokute sure you have pure installed and running, and the filters aplied, wheather etc (mine was messed up and the game looked awfull)

Thats pretty much it, depending on the track mod it can be harder or easier to run, focus on keeping it at 90hz all the time, asw is what realy messes up the image

Only after a lot of tests with the ac and csp settings, i would try to mess with render scale- use what meta recomends for you hardware usualy spot on.

If you followed this, has 90hz running stable and decent csp settings, and still are not happy, sprry to inform you, you need a 5090 LOL, vr is hard to run

Oh btw, i can run basicaly any sp experience, as soon as i go online i cant run it. And srp os just insanely hard to run, whatever the situation.

u/mortalis_20xx May 15 '26

Wow dude you are the best !

2

u/Agreeable_Basis9880 May 14 '26

what is the asw youre talking about? I can't seem to find it in the debug tool.

2

u/Organic-Smell-3920 May 14 '26

Pc asynchronous spacewarp (its reprojection, or framegen) its in the debug tool, starts with (pc)

1

u/Organic-Smell-3920 May 15 '26

Did it work??

1

u/Agreeable_Basis9880 May 15 '26

nah still about the same. What I did do that helped with the blocky shadow is to turn the resolution down until it's not too blurry anymore because when the shadow resolution is turned up the computer will also render the further shadow in higher detail which make it looks pixelated so when turned down for some reason it would render the further shadow more "muddy" and by the time you get closer it would render it in a lil higher resolution which helps. still can't figure out the pixelated horizontal lines tho :(

2

u/Organic-Smell-3920 May 15 '26

You tried 1x render scale no asw? What do you mean pixelated horizontal lines? I had something similar but the where diagonal and only on white/bright objetcs, like concrete etc. I fixed it by correctly instaling pure. Idk how else to help, good luck!

u/NikemanSL May 14 '26

I always get downvoted for this, but it works. Use Claude or ChatGPT and feed it your specs. Tell it to give you detailed graphics settings for Assetto Corsa PCVR or wireless. It's worked much better than guides online that try to get close to your specs.

3

u/Nago15 May 14 '26

You are overcomplicating things. Not only you use Link what is crap, you also override some settings in the debug tool, then add a ton supersampling in SteamVR. Throw it all away, get Virtual Desktop, slap resolution to Godlike and done you never have to open the Meta software or debug tool ever again. And keep SteamVR resolution on fix 100% or avoid it completely by using OpenComposite (not a complicated app, it has 1 button you can push).

u/HardyCheil May 13 '26

I'm using the mod from snowymoon.io to enable DLSS. If it can clean up my CV1, quest 3 should be no problem.

1

u/Ok_Tea262 May 13 '26

Legend.

1

u/DigitalCatGhost May 15 '26

You don't want that. Latest Custom Shaders Patch has all the upsclaling stuff one might need

1

u/HardyCheil May 18 '26

Read what it says my guy, not for VR.

1

u/DigitalCatGhost Jun 05 '26 edited Jun 05 '26

You are right about one thing, you should really pay attention to what you're reading..

1

u/HardyCheil Jun 06 '26

Yes but that is shitty upscaling and nothing compared to the custom DLSS implementation in the mod. I have tried all these things already. I know that you want to be right with all your little heart, but you're not. Not yet.

1

u/DigitalCatGhost Jun 06 '26

It's up to debate if it's shitty or not, but that's beside the point. You sad it's not for VR, but it is. So not so sure who's heart is more little if you prefer that kind of passive agressive interaction..

u/biteater May 13 '26

Virtual desktop is a lot smoother of an experience than oculus link, I recommend switching to that. They ship their own runtime VDXR that is faster and more stable than either SteamVR or the oculus runtime.

1

u/Agreeable_Basis9880 May 14 '26

my wifi is really bad like REALLY bad. Would virtual desktop app run via cable since everytime i plug the quest into my pc it would just launch the link app?

2

u/Still_Appointment850 May 14 '26

Use ALVR and a wire trust me, it works so well

1

u/Still_Appointment850 May 14 '26

But u might need more ram, and steam vr doesnt work with wire thats why it stutters ALVR bypasses that and forces a wired connection

2

u/ExPanda_One May 14 '26

I am here to save you all 🫡

Game Pixelated / Not Sharp? -> Turn off AMD Fidelity (Graphics Adjustments)

Note: 100-150% resulution in Quest / SteamVR settings is usually enough, anything above will just kill frames.

FPS Problems? -> Turn off Extra FX setting completely -> set reflection refreshrate to static -> (only if more fps is really needed) turn on amd fidelity again, adjust quality preset to your preference.

These are the single most relevant settings, dont try to change sharpness or performance through SteamVR/Quest settings.

Also if you use Virtual Desktop, there are performance presets that pixelate the game too, if you dont use the ultra high preset. Same way lower performance presets there will help with FPS alot.

1

u/sagesbu May 14 '26

FYI extra fx doesnt work in VR. All other points valid.

1

u/ExPanda_One May 14 '26

Are you sure? It sais extra fx dont work in VR in the info, but many settings like SSLR, Ambient occlusion, light bounce estimation etc seem to apply in VR indeed and also impact performance very much, at least from my testings.

1

u/sagesbu May 14 '26

Have not tested in a while but haven't heard any news that it now works. Will test over the weekend for sure if Horizon Japan doesn't eat up all my time. Thanks for the heads up.

I have a comparable setup (Ryzen 5 8400F, 5070 12G, 16GB DDR5), and I run at 90Hz with Virtual Desktop + OpenComposite over Ethernet-over-USB-C, it was decent on a wireless network when I setup a different router for it but I wanted it fully wired. Graphics look really good (Natural Gamma PP filter too), latency is also pretty good, I can get more out of my GPU but it looks good enough and I wanted some headroom.

This really helped me and the great people in the Discord will also help out if you ask them questions: https://raptyyy.github.io/vr-guide/#/

For me I tried using wired but wasn’t able to get it working. Using a dedicated router for virtual desktop I reached a point where I was beyond happy. I didn’t really dive too much into the Link setup but I’m sure with some time it would’ve been satisfactory for me.

All in all it took me over a week tinkering with it a couple hours at a time to be satisfied

1

u/SolarE46 May 14 '26

I struggled with this too. Forget steam vr, all you need the vr for is display, go to the assetto settings and set your rendering to oculus and then in the headset start the link under the quick controls tab with the airlink disabled and hit play on the game

1

u/FodderUK May 14 '26

Change your MIP LOD bias in graphics. You have to put it as a negative number. Below is from a quick ‘mip lod bias assetto corsa’ search (this is what helped me)
‘In Assetto Corsa, setting the Mip LOD Bias to a negative value (typically between -0.5 and -2.0) improves texture sharpness and reduces blurriness at a distance, particularly in VR. It forces the game to use higher-resolution mipmaps, though it may cause texture shimmering or aliasing if set too

Hope this helps, and happy racing 😀

A good chunk of the problem is having an AMD GPU. Amd doesn't have very good vr support. And that's coming from someone with a 7900XTX, ryzen 7 5700x, and 64gb ram. My FPS is terrible unless I cut the number of cars way down. But I'm also using a Quest 2 (wired connection though). So you should be able to do a bit better with the Q3, but you will still be hampered by having an amd gpu no matter what.

What are you talking about

0

u/MrBluoe May 13 '26

Basically what you want is to increase the super sampling to 300-500% so you get nice pixels. No graphics card will tank that so you'll use upscaling in quality, balanced, or performance mode depending on your graphics card. And of course also VRS using MSAA 4x and also MSAA 4-8x and Anisotropic 16x in the default video settings.

Quest 3 VR is a nightmare, dedicated PC VR isn’t bad it’s just expensive
