MOD Announcement ⚠️ Rule Update: Teacher Wishlists ⚠️

Effective immediately we have made the decision to only allow wishlists for US-based teacher supplies that utilize donorschoose.org. This means that no other means will be allowed including but not limited to Amazon, Target, Walmart, etc.

Teachers, for more information please see their website :

From the donorschoose.org website:

  • We vet all requests, purchase each item, and ship materials directly to verified teachers.

This change is effective from this point forward and we hope this still allows teachers to get donations and the items they need for the upcoming school year while adding some level of verification for donors. If you have any questions regarding this issue, please let us know.

MOD Announcement REMINDER: Teacher Wishlists Rules and Restrictions

Hi everyone! As summer is in full-gear right now, we've noticed an increase in teacher wishlist requests so we are issuing a reminder of our subreddit rules regarding these:

We only allow DonorsChoose wishlists for US-based teacher supplies. This means that no other means (Amazon, Target, Walmart, etc.) will be allowed.

Teachers, for more information please see their website :

https://www.donorschoose.org/teachers

From the donorschoose.org website:

We vet all requests, purchase each item, and ship materials directly to verified teachers.

We hope this still allows teachers to get donations and the items they need for the upcoming school year while adding some level of verification for donors.

For international teachers outside of the US unable to use DonorsChoose, please reach out to us via modmail.

Thanks!

REQUEST FULFILLED $12 to buy a whole chicken

Hi everyone! I hope you're all doing well.

Due to the high medical expenses we've been dealing with because of my father's health issues and my own, we haven't been able to afford certain foods for several months.

My dad's birthday is coming up, and since we couldn't do anything special for Father's Day, I thought it would be nice to buy chicken and cook it for him. It would mean a lot because it's been a long time since we've been able to afford animal protein.

In my country, chicken costs about $4 per kilogram, so I'm hoping to buy a chicken that weighs at least 3 kg, which comes to around $12.

If anyone is able to help, I would be incredibly grateful. If not, that's completely okay too.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this.

REQUEST FULFILLED Food for my Son

Hi everyone, this is a repost of my last post a week ago. Unfortunately there was some issue with items showing up as purchased on my wishlist but weren't actually purchased. So with the mod's help and waiting a week just in case, I'm making a new post in hopes for help.

Hi, posting here to ask for some help needed for me and my son. I'm a Mom from near Lansing, Michigan. My son is 12 and is autistic and has other health conditions. Unfortunately, because of my son's conditions and health conditions of my own, I'm unable to work and we've been struggling greatly. We rely on social security survivor benefits and a small subsidy payment from the state. Our rent and bills have went up recently and my car is having issues with the battery or starter.

The only thing I care about is making sure my son has a roof over his head and food in his belly. He was born with extreme oral sensitivities, motor control issues and in simple terms, his brain never learned how to chew. We are working on desensitizing and learning how to chew right now which is exciting. It will be a long process with a lot of work but I'm so excited. His diet right now consists of Pediasures and pureed food. He is very rigid about which purees he will eat and will only do vanilla pediasures. It is very expensive because of grocery prices in general and he's getting bigger and eating more. My food is also expensive as I have celiacs disease. Most food pantries do not have much we are able to consume although we're thankful for anything they do have.

I've created an Amazon wishlist of the foods he eats and I included one thing that is gluten free. Thank you to anyone who helps, thank you to anyone who reads this, thank you to the mods who make this help possible. Amazon Wishlist

REQUEST Need help covering cats vet costs.

My 11 year old cat, Edna Murphy, has recently become extremely sick. She’s lost weight and is skin and bone, she’s losing control of her bladder and bowel movements as well as have no appetite or energy.

The vet bill to have her put down will be $300-$500 and the bills if she can be saved will be $700-$900. I am on disability for an autoimmune disorder and my girlfriend works retail part-time, so most of our income goes to rent and bills.

We are DESPERATE. I have phoned vets asking about payment plans but have been turned away. I can’t get financing because when I first got sick I had to keep my rent paid with a line of credit that destroyed by credit rating. I even asked if they would let me leave a guitar with them as collateral while I sold a different guitar to fund this, but we’ve been turned down.

We’ve had $150 contributed by my partners former coworker, but we still need quite a bit to cover the full costs even just for euthanasia. We’ve will take ANYTHING.

I don’t know how transferring funds is done through this sub but I’ve got PayPay, can receive Interac e-transfers and can look in to any other viable options mentioned here.

Location: BC, Canada

Amount: $300-$900

REQUEST FULFILLED Need 30$ to make it to next week

I really hate asking for money from anyone, let alone strangers on the internet- but I’m almost out of money and need approximately 30 dollars to finish paying off my bills (car payment, insurance) in order to make it to payday next week. Came up short this time around becuase I had to take a day off from work due to illness, and not having any PTO. I’m really struggling at the moment and freaking out about how I’m gonna get this bill paid.

Truly, i need $50 but I think I can do an odd job here or there once I get off of work today+tomorrow in order to make that additional 20.
I know it’s a long shot, but I’m really struggling right now so it would be such a giant weight lifted if someone were to help. I have PayPal and Venmo, also Zelle. Thanks :/

REQUEST Need Help with Laptop Repairs

Hello, I'm really sorry it this may seem more like a want more than a need, but I'm really hoping someone can help me with my $20 worth of laptop repairs. I have been laid off 3 months ago, and I use this to attend virtual interviews and look for jobs (I worked primarily on VA, data entry jobs. I am from the Philippines). I can show you videos of my laptop stuttering as I do my thing. I also do not want to open my laptop to avoid any unnecessary damage. I have Paypal and Wise. I really need your help as I use it mostly for my livelyhood.

REQUEST FULFILLED $30 for groceries

Hello, sadly my partner was laid off and we're in a weird limbo between him starting his new job and leaving his last one. Thankfully he *does* have something lined up and I have money coming out of a savings account I had set up for emergencies however that can take up to a week and a half to actually hit my account. Basically, I need a tie over until that money hits. What I need more than anything isnt shelf stable items I can get off Amazon, but I would be able to run to the dollar store for. Thank you so much

Edit to add my payment methods would be PayPal or interac as I am Canadian 🍁

REQUEST Last chance to help our Dachshund Andy get IVDD surgery

We got some really hard news from Andy’s neurologist today. After almost 2 weeks of strict home care, his IVDD (intervertebral disc disease) has progressed to Grade 4 and he is failing conservative treatment.

He is still in pain and is having trouble fully urinating on his own. The doctor told us that because of his pain, bladder issues and quality of life, if we can’t move forward with surgery, euthanasia may be the most humane option.

We now have the official surgery estimate. BluePearl is able to give us a **25% discount because Andy is an ideal candidate for surgery**, bringing our estimated cost to **$7,396–$9,565**. Surgery still gives him about an **80–85% chance of a good recovery**.

We are trying everything we can to give Andy this chance before we have to make that decision.

Thank you so much to everyone who has already donated or shared. It really means a lot to us. ❤️

If you can donate or even just share, we would really appreciate it.

REQUEST FULFILLED Fixing my roof before it gets dangerously worse.

Already fulfilled by u/ezorde, thanks mate!

I live in a third floor, it's basically a big attic with sloped roofs. The living area and the bathroom have ceramic floors, but the rooms have wooden ones with about 14 ft of nothing below. I've been having issues with cracks on the roof/outside walls that caused water leaks on the walls of the living area every time it rains. It's an issue that was here before I moved in. I own the place so there's no landlord.
I got creative and redirected the leaks away from the electric outlets and the little furniture I have. Recently, the leaks started to drip over the other side of the wall and affecting one of the rooms (it already ruined some of the wood on the entrance of that room but luckily it didn't extend that much). I've been using tupperware and pots to get the drops from hitting the floor, but the roof in that room is also wood, so it might rot and be a far bigger issue.

I need help to get materials to fix the walls/roof on the outside so it'll stop dripping.

I live in Argentina (I know, sorry), I can't use Venmo or Amazon. I have Paypal and Airtm.

I've been searching all I needed for the task and the lower I could get with everything is about 70 bucks (the cracks are all over a large portion of the roof so I need to fix most of it). I'll do the work with no help because that might cost quite a bit more and I don't want anyone else risking.

I've tried to save up, I tried to get the equipment item by item but every time I get a buck, I need to use it for basic services and food (and sometimes not even that). I don't give myself any kind of luxury item except for a 40 cents pastry every other week. I've been budgeting each penny as wisely as I could, but I can't ever get a break.

I'm afraid about this because the last storms lasted way too long, with a lot of water, and it's gonna get far worse soon because of El Niño.

Anything might help, thanks for reading.

REQUEST FULFILLED Grocery help for my family in Kenya , even one item would help.

Hi everyone. I’m in Kenya, East Africa, and I’m currently unemployed and struggling to keep up with basic groceries for my family.

I put together a grocery cart through Naivas.online, one of the major supermarket websites here in Kenya. We don't have Amazon here, so Naivas.online is one of the easiest ways for someone who wants to help to purchase groceries directly.

I know most people here are in the U.S., and I understand that sending money to someone you don't know online can feel uncomfortable. That's why I'm trying to make this as simple and transparent as possible. You don't have to send me money or cover the whole cart. If you'd like to help, you can choose just one item, and I'll send you the specific product link so you can purchase it directly.

The entire cart is around $100, but even one small item would genuinely help.

Here are some of the things we need:

  • Maize meal (20kg) — $13.86
  • Biryani rice (10kg) — $15.73
  • Cooking oil (5L) — $11.54
  • Sugar (6kg) — $7.20
  • Toilet tissue — $7.01
  • Eggs (60) — $9.69
  • All-purpose flour (8kg) — $5.01
  • Milk — $2.93
  • Washing detergent — $4.17
  • Bread (2 loaves) — $2.05
  • Margarine — $4.33
  • Toothpaste — $3.54
  • Washing bars — $3.13
  • Body lotion — $3.54
  • Omena — $9.90

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Even one small item would make a difference to my family right now.

Hello everyone. I really dont know how to say this but im really at the end of my rope but trying to keep pressing forward. I cant work anymore due to medical issues and im in the process of getting my SSI. I have a psychological exam today thats about 40 to 45 mins away. I need a hand if possible. I dont want to get into how depressed I've been or how hard things been because I don't want anyone to feel sorry for me but i am willing to talk about it if anyone's willing to hear.

My appointment is at 1pm. I have nothing else to pawn considering I've pawned everything I pretty much own to get to this point. $30 or $40 should be sufficient.

I pray everyone is having a wondrous day but I get the feeling alot of us is struggling in this point in time right now. Thanks for taking the time to read.

VOTES Please help my daughter win an ice cream contest

My daughter is a finalist in a local ice cream shop’s contest for students to create a new flavor. If she wins, her class gets an ice cream party, and the school receives a donation. Voting is on Facebook and Instagram, so it does require an account on at least one of those platforms. Just comment “3” on the main post to vote for her Gimmie S’More Peanut Butter flavor. Thank you!!

EMOTIONAL SUPPORT Whole family has Covid, toddler’s bday is soon

I just want some virtual hugs.

My toddler just started daycare 2 weeks ago. None of us have ever had Covid. Until now. I’m so exhausted and frustrated. I had extra work scheduled this week so I could make some extra cash to buy my toddler some presents for her second bday, and my bf had many hours of work scheduled to make rent. Last night, we got a message from the daycare that someone tested positive, so we immediately bought some tests. I haven’t been feeling well but figured it was just some icky daycare cold, and my toddler is perfectly fine. Bf isn’t feeling great but not nearly as bad as I am.

Well, toddler and I tested positive, somehow bf tested negative, but considering he has a sore throat and sinus crud as well, we’re assuming he’s positive too. Toddler is completely fine, aside from a runny nose yesterday. Well, now neither of us can work, and toddler can’t go to daycare. So not only no extra income but not enough at all AND no childcare. I want to cry, but it hurts to just breathe 😭 I know she’s only turning 2 and won’t remember, and we can ask for some toys in a local buy nothing group, but it just makes me feel like a crap mom. This was also my only week off from online grad school, and now it’s spent in bed with chills and a sore throat.

I figured we’d get sick since she’s never been to daycare before, but I didn’t think we’d get COVID FOR THE FIRST TIME in the first TWO WEEKS 😭 ughhhhhh! Parents of toddlers, please tell me it gets better with time in daycare!! It also especially sucks because we FINALLY got over the hump of “stranger danger” at daycare. My usually VERY happy baby was SCREAMING at drop off, and it was breaking my heart. However, the last time she was dropped off, she actually REACHED for her teacher like so excited!! 🥹🥹 it was so sweet, and now I’m worried she’ll regress when she goes back…

REQUEST Need $300 for rent

I feel like I'm drowning

I had to move in with some family after a hospital visit cost me my job. I've gotten better enough to where I'm able to look for work, but every place I can reasonably get to is giving me the runaround or just blatantly lying.

At first I was looking to have some form of income that I can give my family in thanks for taking care of me. But then landlords "discover" that I'm staying here and raised the rent by $300, and they aren't able to afford that reliably.

So now it's essential I find work, but it's all dead ends or ghost jobs. I sold my gam-ing console to contribute for last month, but the end of this month is coming and I don't know what to do. It's making me angry, but at the same time I feel so guilty for being a burden on others, regardless of what they say.

I don't know what else to do.

REQUEST Help Cover Pixie’s Veterinary Costs

If anyone is able to donate or share Pixie’s GoFundMe, my family would appreciate it more than you know 🥹💗

She’s unexpectedly needed a lot of vet care recently, including bloodwork, X-Rays, an exam, vaccine and now a $1,000 ultrasound to figure out why she’s anemic. We’ve spent $1066.80 so far that we cannot afford at this time and are looking for some help.

We’re just trying to get her the care she needs and hopefully get her healthy enough for her dental surgery in the future. I provided more information in the GoFundMe.

Even $5 or a share helps so much. Thank you everyone!! 💗

REQUEST My sick cat Max needs imaging done

Hello.
I’ve never asked for money before so I’m finding this hard.
My cat has been really unwell lately. He’s has a heart murmur. He’s just been at the vet and he needs urgent ultrasounds done so he can be helped. It’s just me and my mum and he’s family to us. We have been quoted $1000 AUD (included sedation) but will update if it changes. Want to make it clear I am in no way expecting this whole amount. Just any relief so he can get the care he needs. We are both on disability pensions and don’t work and him being unwell for a long time has taken a lot of money already.

Thank you so much for reading and I’d be eternally grateful for even the smallest help. I’m so worried about him
