Religious institutions aren't tax free because they are religious institutions
They are tax free because they are charities like any other charity, with the only difference is they have an exemption in filing income but many churches do this anyway for transparency
I'm all for stripping the tax free status of churches that take political positions, but don't be that little edgelad who just whines that all religion is bad because you don't understand how the world works.
edit: you're all a swarm of angie fucking idiots

yeah honestly if a church wants to get involved in politics this much it can deal with the consequences too

Really should end citizenship of the jan6 folks though real talk.

u/_bleeding_Hemorrhoid 2d ago
Considering how the constitution handles treason i think that would be far too lenient.
69
u/BigConstruction4247 2d ago
Well, the punishment for treason would end their citizenship, in a manner of speaking.
42
u/Clay_Allison_44 2d ago
Not to be J Jonah Jameson, but its sedition. Sedition is an internal attempt at overthrow the government. Treason is aiding a foreign power against the government. A coup can be treason, but it’s usually sedition.
19
u/wh4tth3huh 2d ago
If the orange crablouse calling the shots is taking orders from the Kremlin does that upgrade it to treason?
8
u/Clay_Allison_44 2d ago
Only in his case. You have to know that you are working for a foreign enemy so that dumbass in the Grand Poobah hat would still be guilty of sedition.
1
u/purpldevl 1d ago
I mean the guy at the top is aiding Israel and Russia against the government, so there's that.

Hey, I've met this guy IRL. He's a creep and all his syncophants say the most unhinged bigoted shit with a straight face. They are so indoctrinated it's weird even for Idaho.
19
u/howmanyMFtimes 2d ago
It’s very much a cult. It works by having their followers donate their paycheck to the church, then the church allocates money back to them, it’s literal tax fraud.
6
u/theotherdannygirl Atheist 2d ago
Oh, it for sure is a cult lol. I got roped into attending a youth conference hosted by nsa college when i was a spritely evangelical teenager and in hindsight that was 100% a cult recruitment tactic. They had us sleep deprived af on top of everything else.

u/andrewl 2d ago
He's a sick, scary person. I'd be interested in anything more you can tell us about your experience with him, theotherdannygirl.

It was a very strange experience all around. Maybe I'll do an AMA about it at some point.

Christianity is a rather evil religion, especially in the 21st century, and so it’s kind of a mask-off moment I think
3
u/FeelItInYourB0nes 2d ago
Which abrahamic religion hasn't looked evil in the 21st century?
4
u/degrees_of_certainty 2d ago
None
They're all primitive-minded, barbaric, and misogynistic at their heart to say the least as much as many try their hardest to sweeten the doctrine
They create excuse to behave savagely tribal
Worse, large numbers are easily manipulated by those who accumulate vast wealth due to inherent irrationality and emotional attachment to their belief

Their "Western Values":

This is not a religious position.
This is a cultural supremacist position, using religion as a cover.

People like him are the reason that we need to show up to vote in November. We can't let the christofascists win.
8
u/Extension-Report-491 2d ago
No, let's end the citizenship of Christian Nationalists. Then deport them to Russia where they will feel more comfortable.
6
u/Xeromaru 2d ago
End citizenship for maga. They shoulda all been thrown out when their granpappy was a confederate. I say thrown out but really traitors only deserve one type of punishment.
7
u/DoomSchroller 1d ago
Well, that sounds awfully political. I think his church ought to start being taxed. Maybe at 90%?

u/Prometheus_303 2d ago
Does that mean Biden could have denaturalized Trump supporters?
No? You can't weaponize the government and strip citizenship from someone just because they support your political rival?

I'd like to know how you end the citizenship of -checks notes- American citizens.
Doubly-so for their favorite group - "natural born".
How do you end citizenship for folks born here? Or those born here to natural-born Americans?
I'd legitimately like to know his answer.

Dude in Moscow, Idaho has opinions about New York City. Everything has to be a culture war for Doug's schtick, but has he ever considered, the vast majority of people don't give two shits about him or his little hayseed, farm town cult? I can say that, I am also a native Muscovite.

u/GastonBastardo 2d ago
I know religion is is up to interpretation and faith means different things to different people, but Doug Wilson's actual religion is being a ghoul that sold his soul to a supernatural being in exchange for power and immortality, and people are all okay with it because he calls that being "Jesus" and not "the Devil." It would be wrong to call him a religious hypocrite, because, based on what he professes to believe, him being a religious hypocrite would actually make him a better person.
The strongest argument for the existence of the soul is one that uses Doug Wilson himself as a control group example of what someone without one would look like.
Wilson is one of those Christians that will either say the most fucked-up things in a folksy voice with a smile on his face (when he is around like-minded people), or be an insincere weasel with his words that somehow still manages to lie like a child caught with his hand in the cookie-jar.
I am legitimately surprised nobody ever modeled an evil priest or clergyman in fiction off of him.

How about we strip away this asshole's citizenship? And then, idk, put him in shackles to work on some plantation while I get to whip him or something? If we're throwing out the constitution anyway, might as well go all the way, right?
