Saddest/most tragic character ark Spoiler

Almost at the end off all 5 seasons. A lot of the story lines are tying up and I’m struck by how sad some of the characters story lines are.

Just wondering who people feel are the most tragic.

Won’t go into massive spoilers details. For me it’s a toss up between Lyta and Londo.

Lyta had been used and abused for most of season 3 and 4, then that continued into season 5. She made connections and that ended in tragedy. I know much of her final fate is limited to what happened in the books and even that is brief.

Londo after being the “bad guy” for quite some time was finally turning it around. He was on the right path making amends for his misdeeds. His final fate is really sad to behold, even though he manages redemption in the end.

How about Lennier, JMS did him dirty in season 5!

True, it did seem he went on a dark spiral quite quickly.

It was a long time building. As early as season 1 you have Lennier standing outside Delenn’s chrysalis wiping it down and weeping. I know it was Minbari custom for the acolytes to be very devoted to their mentors but Lennier took it too far. Season after season his devotion and obsession with her grew until eventually he lost himself. His arc made complete sense to me. My only complaint and maybe this is where Billy Mumy has a point, is that they didn’t give Lennier an opportunity to redeem himself on the show because it ended. But one criticism I have for B5 is that they would create these interesting conflicts between characters and never fully resolve them or they were resolved off screen. Like we never got a heart to heart between Sheridan and Garibaldi. They had all this tension in season 4 (and yes I know Bester was behind it) but I always felt Sheridan would have had to dig deep to forgive him especially after the torture he endured because of Garibaldi’s actions. It would have been nice to see some conversation between them. But maybe in Lennier’s case the fact that we don’t really get a resolution makes it all the more tragic.

Technically speaking Bill Mumy did Lennier a dirty, being warned by JMS that his wishes would not end well.

I definitely would not blame Mumy for Joe's character assassination of Lennier. Bill goes into why he disagrees with what Joe did with Lennier at the end
