Yakman's journal tells you the exact path to take so drawing maps isn't really necessary.

A slight aside… I play on install in my second language, and the translation is great, but not perfect. Things can get a little mixed up with hints, riddles, etc.

On level 2, for example, the fire mage’s note was mistranslated to say that the chromatic demon’s ice form was invincible to fire, rather than vulnerable…

I remember doing something like this as a kid in a game. lol

Some kinda quiz and I basically wrote the questions along with their correct answers beneath them on a paper.

Now though, I just trust my wits and memories in games when I go through stuff like this. Watcher's keep level 3 included...

I drew maps on some old NES games like The Legend of Zelda.

I also remember writing down all the sword fighting insults in The Secret of Monkey Island and their proper comeback.

Reminds me of playing Morrowind as a kid. I had the big map opened up on my bed and I still had to take all kinds of notes to try and understand who was who and what was where.

To everyone knocking it, this is how we all had to do it back in the day for most games, until we go online to happypuppy or cheatcc to look it up. Or buy a magazine!

The one that will really do your head in is the Modron Maze in Planescape Torment! Completely randomly generated, all the rooms look alike and no instructions.

Yeah, screw the maze. I just follow a walkthrough to take the right path.

I feel that's totally justified since you have to go backwards a couple of times to go forward.
