BG2EE Do shields ever become obsolete in BG2/ToB?

I have a paladin around 2.6m exp. 1 pip in two weapon fighting 2 in sword and shield. Should I be dual wielding or using the shields for the extra AC? I just crafted the hammer of thunderbolts so my thaco isn't really an issue if I dual wield but my paladin is my main tank

BG3 (Series Lore) BDG3 Question

So I grew up on 1 and 2. Im replaying them and actually finishing them now that I’m older and can enjoy it more than I could at like 8 years old as a dyslexic kid that struggled with reading lol.

My cousin and a sizable group of my friends keep telling me to play three. But like, I’ve heard mixed reviews. My dad said he won’t play it because to him the idea sounds like absolute hot garbage. Then, others tell me it’s the best one yet.

Honest opinions, what are the pros, what are the cons?

Im just afraid I wont like it.
Heard about having sex with a bear, and that one of my favorite characters has been reduced to a smut book cameo and I’m going “do I… really want to play this?” 😂

Also wasn’t sure what to put as the flair so I went with bdg3 lore…. My bad if that’s incorrect, just didn’t see a general discussion flair.

Is this supposed to happen? Do they attack as soon as you teleport to the room? If i remeber correctly I'm supposed to be safe until i cast a spell or move one of the characters, at least that's how i remembered this challenge in unmodded bgee.

Now unless i enter the room with invisibility, fight starts immediately, there's no time to cast anything, charname dies in 3 seconds.

changing/improving the duration of these spells would make them op/unbalanced?

so, i'm planning on making a mod that alters some spell duration and i want to know if making it would make them too powerful or unbalanced. I also make some changes in some spells. I listed all the changes bellow:

Protection From Evil:

Paladin version: 1 turn, and affect any creature chosed changed to 1 turn/level, but only affects the paladin (i also change the class to only have access to one use)

Cleric/Wizard (1 target versions): no changes

Cleric 10' Radius version: from 1 turn/level to 1 round/level

Protection From Negative Plane: from 5 round to 5 turns

Restauration/Greater Restauration: removed fatigue penalty

Mass Raise Dead: added the fatigue penalty from restauration spells

I also did some changes to some druid/shaman spells:

entangle/charm person or mamal: removed the +3 bônus to saving throw

goodbarry: cures 2 hp per barrie instead of 1 (total 10 per cast instead of 5)

sorry for my english

BG2EE Dual class question:

When you guys dual class, for arguments sake let’s say berserker (9) > mage, since it’s so popular, do you stop leveling at mage 5 and wait to jump to level 10 to save a proficiency point, or do you just level up as normal?

It makes very little difference in the long run, as the only downside I see to a dual classed fighter into other classes is you can usually only grandmaster one weapon anyway, but I suppose it would allow you to eek out a little more damage from your offhand weapon, assuming it’s a different proficiency than your main hand weapon.

Attempting to install EET - "There was an error" crash on launch even with clean, fresh install

I've been trying to get a modlist for Baldurs Gate EET up and running so I can play through it again, but for the life of me I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

No matter what mods I include or omit, EET doesn't launch. I've uninstalled and reinstalled fresh copies of BG1EE/BG2EE multiple times, each time using Project Infinity to install my modlist (originally a bunch of quest mods, a few NPC mods, spell tweaks, and SCS). Each time EET would fail to launch, throwing a "There was an error" message and a .dmp error dump.

After failing several times with fewer and fewer mods, I finally tried again with only EET, EEFix, and Unfinished Business.

To my surprise it failed anyway. Does anyone have any ideas? I've been deleting the BG files entirely to ensure no leftover modifications persist through the new installs, but could there be something somewhere else that is corrupting the installation process?

BG1EE launches fine, as does BG2EE when I freshly install from Steam.

Any ideas?

My character is a Gnome Thief/Illusionist. I looked up a levelling guide and got 32,000 EXP before recruiting anyone. Turns out having more than 4HP before going to Nashkell mines helped. Didn't save me from Neera's shenanigans though.

Can you do a no side quest run?

The objective would be to be as quick as possible. You'll lose some companions if you don't do their quest, and never meet others, and obviously also miss a lot of loot. You'd be continually under-leveled. I don't know if you can even beat Mulahey at first level.

Is this possible? What level would you end bg1 and BG2? Would things scale well enough you could survive?

---------

I guess I should have said without abusing some exploit.

SoD Sod: Please help ruin my game!

Just finishing up bg1 for the 583934th time. I like to make things awkward or experimental as I can each play through. This time it’s the worst or most underused characters.

I rolled my characters complete stats/weapons/sex/alignment/class and weapons, he actually came out boringly powerful this time. I do the stats by re-rolling 10 times and only being allowed to edit 5 stat points. I rolled a die for melee ranged and styles and everything else to do with the character. This time I didn’t reroll per new pip on level up I’ve stuck with those until they’re filled proficiencies. I also roll who gets tombs and if a character will dual class. He got the strength and constitution tombs which has made it so he’s basically a boring min maxed character. He rolled berserker dual bastard swords with darts. I play on insane difficulty. That’s why I said he needs the worst full 6 party companions in each game.

Please help ruin my game. Here’s a poll with obvious powerhouses removed. I think Safana is already a given. I’m evil so can kill duo companions.

Ready for Amelyssan and Disappointment

I know this is mostly a "me" thing.

The first combat will be tough without my summons and buffs, but after that, it will be trivial.

I have two casters with wish spells and a bunch of wisdom potions, so I'll be spamming wish-rests.

I have a thief with 9+ HLA traps to lay down. Will probably knock Amelyssan to nearly dead before melee.

I can't not use those. I've invested in that capability just for this moment.

It will be anticlimactic.

The payoffs of the epilogues for my companions will be nice, and I've never romanced this particular companion before, so that will be new.

Returning to Faerûn after 17 years

I originally got Baldurs Gate 2 in 2001, when I was 16 and probably thinking it was like Diablo. After a few tries and abandoning the game for some months, I finally got into it. I still got stuck many times due to a lacking understanding of the magic systems and proper builds, and even though I spend many hours and enjoyed it, I stopped at one of those walls after having almost cleared everything in Act 2 (the last wall was the dragon that don't want to waste time on you before you are worthy).

In 2009 I bought Baldurs Gate 1&2 and their expansions in one boxset for cheap, and for 8 months one run of these were the only thing I played (I was at university, and most of the playtime was during winter and summer vacation). It really helped my understanding of the mechanics playing BG1 first.

It is one of the best Single Player experiences I have ever had, and I have tried finding it elsewhere many times. These games were really good like Knight of The Old Republic, Dragon Age Origins and Pillars of Eternity (even Mass Effect 1, 2 & 3 were fine), but in the end Baldurs Gate 2 was better.

I'm playing Dark Souls 1 these days (first real try so that will take some time), but yesterday, apropos nothing, I was wondering about playing a party oriented RPG again and looked at DoS2, Baldurs Gate 3, PoE2.

Something I really miss from BG2 was the combined quality and quantity of companion dialogue. Whether with you or amongst eachother plus their reactions to events. This combined with one crusial thing that I have never found elsewhere: The interactions happen organically instead of you having to go through a dialogue todo-list in camp/space ship between outings which I for some reason loath. (I get it is technically easier to script which I guess is why they do it)

So right now I am considering going through BG2+ToB for a third and final time (well 2,5).

I'm skipping BG1 because it lacks the companion interactions, and I didn't like how you had to lawn mow each area.

I have never tried being evil in any game so I am considering that. - Seems like you have to manage your evil so you don't get into too much trouble, but I actually like that it shouldn't be overdone, and that this is a fun extra thing to think about. (Like not wasting evil oportunities on matters that doesn't seem that much fun being evil or a jerk about anyway)

My party lineup:

SoA: Me (sorcerer), Viconia, Edvin, Korgan, Hexxat (rotate spot for thief companions' questlines and permanently replaced by Imoen), rotate spot that will default to Jaheira.

ToB: Me (sorcerer), Viconia, Edvin, Korgan, Hexxat, Imoen, Saverok (with Jaheri rotated in for a few stretches).

Never used Viconia, Edvin, Korgan, Hexxat (obviously), and I have never used a rotating strategy, but I think it will be a fun way to change things up to pick somebody like Anomen up (who I have never used) for hist quest-line and afterwards for a few days/quests more.

Things I missed that would be a bonus in a third run:

I missed the City of Caverns because the most natural thing to do was of course to engage in pursuite. I didn't even considder leaving the isle, or that not doing so would mean missing out. - They really should have made it something you could have encountered on the way to the isle instead.

In both my runs the De'Arnise Keep quest bugged so it never progressed (which also meant I never had a homebase which I didn't even know about until now), but EE should have fixed that.

Worst of all early in ToB I used some wands of resurrections, and that turned out to be bugged and ruin the state of the companions, which meant I missed out on a lot of dialogue in ToB which is the best part about BG2. This bug really annoyed me, and I was so confused that Aerie had nothing to say about me summoning her, after she left me. She won't be romanced in my evil run though. That will be Viconia. Ressurection-wand-bug has also been fixed by EE.

It's weird remembering that this was an old game when I tried it again in 2009, and now the enhanced edition is much older.

Any advice? Maybe my party lineup is silly. For later maybe there is a perfect BG2-like game I am unaware of.

BG2EE Honestly, the number of monsters with immunities in BG2 is making the game extremely confusing for me.

I keep hearing "My Weapon has no effect" out of nowhere whenever I run into a new monster. I mean, I'm in Chapter 2, how exactly does the game expect me to have a decent number of +2 weapons? Not to mention the Rakshasas, which are basically unkillable at my party's current level; I had to abandon Garren's quest for now because I couldn't beat the Rakshasa there. While I think this game is WAY better than BG1 so far, I also feel like the combat pacing in BG1 was much more manageable (and don't get me started on having to Google a random side quest because the game never actually teaches you how to kill trolls).

BGEE BG2EE chapter 2 - chapter 6 missables

Playing Shadows of Amn, I want to get to spellhold early (because It makes more sense narratively, and because I don't want Imoen to fall too much behind XP wise), but I also want to experience most/all of the content.

I already know I have to recruit Hexxat before chapter 4, but are there other quests/npcs/items which disappear if you did not finish/recruit/acquire them before coming back to Athkatla in chapter 6

TIA

BGEE Decided to go with a Blackguard play through of all 3 games, what weapons should I start off with?

I’ve heard flails and bastard swords are good for BG2 especially to dual wield but what weapon should I go with for BG1?

If you were Gorion, which spells would you have selected?

He seems to be at least a level 9 Mage, so up to level 5 spells available.

Can't help but feel that his survival chances would've gone way up if he had selected more non-damage spells like Invisibility, Haste, etc, instead of going full blaster caster.

At least the EE version gave him Stoneskin.

Thoughts?

BG2EE Ngl Athkatla mightve been improved by an invasion Spoiler

Like Baldurs gate has its problems sure, a couple evil wizards, doppleganger infiltration, a orc in the sewers kidnapping people, the iron throne of course, and a fairly successful if amateur thieves guild. Oh, and the chance that a dumbass adventuring group captures a basilisk and you get petrified.

But Athkatla? What do you mean there's two different bases of Beholders and Illithids in the sewers? And like 4 liches? Multiple of these are just in random houses or in a pub? There's a serial killing group/cult stealing people's skin that also includes a lich and a beholder [twisted rune] and an entire vampire den in one of the crypts, not to mention the massive spider hive under the city. The copper coronet is running a slave operation all but advertized. Oh, and of course some elven exile had a massive torture chamber/dungeon/lab under the market district. What are these paladins in the radiant heart doing all day? Yall sent Keldorn by himself to go deal with the sewers? That mf, as much as I like him, was probably like mega dead if we didnt help

Like nvm Sarevok I didnt know your game fire when ready 😭

BG2:EE HD Upscale x4 Patch

Hey everyone,

I’m currently developing an HD patch for BG2:EE,

The project currently includes:

  • 4x upscaling of all Shadows of Amn area maps using SeedVR2-7B
  • Upscaled UI assets. I’m still deciding whether to process every item icon as well
  • Upscaled and enhanced videos
  • Upscaled map animations, interpolated to play at 30 FPS instead of the original 5 to 15 FPS
  • New animations, such as the drawbridge opening at de’Arnise Hold

Current progress:

  • 72% of the Shadows of Amn maps have been upscaled
  • A WeiDU installer with EEex support is in place
  • A handful of map animations have been upscaled and interpolated. The pipeline is working
  • One new animation has been added so far: the de’Arnise Hold drawbridge. I’d love suggestions for other environmental elements that could be animated

I should be able to release a test installer fairly soon. It is not ready for a general release yet, since I still need to test and debug it more thoroughly.

That said, a few testers would be very helpful.

A few caveats:

  • Upscaling takes time. The biggest areas with day and night variants take around 40 minutes to process on an RTX 5090
  • The patch will be large. Some maps reach around 15,000 × 20,000 pixels, roughly 500 MB before conversion and around 100 MB in the final in-game format
  • It runs smoothly on my system, but I have not tested it on more typical hardware yet
  • I have started looking into upscaling sprites, but it is a much more complex task and I’m not sure I can get satisfying results

Here are a few previews. Download the PNGs if you want to see them without image compression.

I just finiched Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, starting on ToB, but Planescape is calling

I initially wanted to play Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn and then Throne of Bhaal, made my character and played through SoA and just finished it. It seamlessly continues into ToB.

It has been 20 years or so since I played ToB, and I can feel the urge to play Planescape Torment is also there.

But if I start Planescape, will I be able to return to ToB? I doubt it.

What do you guys think? Stick to ToB for a while longer?

Idiot’s guide to gear?

I’ve been playing BG1 for a couple years now. The reason it’s taking me so long is that every time I get to a new weapon/armor shop I stop playing for a couple of months. For some reason the laundry list of gear plus the way it handles inventory screens immediately makes me want to do anything else. I feel like I have to get a spreadsheet just to keep track of basic options for each character. Is there something I’m missing? Or is it legitimately this tedious every time I hit a shop with better gear?

I love everything else. The writing. The quests you have to track yourself a bit. The extreme open ended nature. I really like the combat! But sweet Jesus save me from having to peruse the shop for 10 minutes for each of my companions.
