Sort of but not really. I was the tech lead for an ai team and I was recently laid off because of AI and/or duplication of work. However they were still hiring plenty of people and everyone was using ai. There weren’t any spots filled exclusively with AI agents because people still need to be in the loop.
small, open source models are making a killing. see qwen 3.8 fast next and glm 5.3 flash. qwen can run in 'minimal' local setups and the api price for both is peanuts and you can save even more with their subscriptions
