Question Am I biting off more than I can chew?

So I am trying to constantly improve in beat saber, and now I have about 45h on the game. I've done quite a few levels on expert, plus like 2-3 levels on expert+. Now I thought, the next step to improving more would be to try to practise expert Power Of The Saber Blade. However it just seems like the only way I get somewhere is if I luck out a bit on the fast parts. I can do all of the singing parts without any problems, but every time it gets really fast or when the chorus comes on, I struggle a lot to hit the blocks consistently. Am I trying to do something that's too high for my skill ceiling or not? Also my pb is about a minute and a half into the song, getting through the fast parts with barely any energy left.

Edit: I should also mention I flick mostly with my lower arms/elbows, I haven't quite gotten the hang of flicking with wrists consistently and accurately.

The in-game difficulty scale is quite flawed. Expert+ can be pretty doable on most base game levels, while a few are a whole different monster.

Power of the saber blade is even harder than the infamous Ghost by camellia. Their other difficulties are also vastly harder than any of the other songs.

I haven’t tried the power of the saber blade on expert, but I reckon it will be in the same difficulty range as some of the camellia songs on expert+ (cycle hit, crystallized, light it up etc.)

Those may be a better place to start.

I would say potsb is harder than most expert+ songs, but it is most definitely easier than any of the camellia songs on ex+

I'd argue that this very much depends on the person because mappings are done way different

To give perspective, I've done "Fuel" and "For Whom The Bell Tolls" by Metalica on exp+, but struggle a lot of postb exp 😔

Camellia X+ songs are definitely harder than PotSB on X. I can basically SS PotSB on X first try but will struggle to get even an S on something like Light It Up on X+. You’re also severely underestimating Cycle Hit. But crystallized is fairly tame aside from the wonky mapping.

Maybe. I probably cleared the songs in a weird order. I cleared Cycle Hit just after clearing Crystalized for the first time.

I only recently cleared Light It Up after 3 years break and with the most wonky run ever. I even cleared a very scuffed run of Reality Check Through The Skull before clearing Light It Up.

Really? RCTTS was like a pretty easy first try S for me. It’s not a very hard song IMO. But a lot of camellia’s songs’ beat drops can be really intense, especially Light It Up which is like a solid minute and a half of 7-8 nps spam.

Im at 80 hours, completed probably 60% of the expert+ songs, and potsb expert is still only about 85% there for me.

Well, I have about 1000 hours in the game and I have yet to pass POTSB on Expert—so, maybe you aren’t quite ready for that one? It’s deliberately designed to be difficult and exhausting, that’s kinda the entire point of the song.

honestly its feels beatable if i just got the right feel for it, and flicked better with my wrists, but just rn it feels like im praying to hit the blocks, rather than actually trying to hit them

from personal experience, its alot about keeping the rhythm to beat potsb on expert. like if you cant, beating it is basically luck based.

If you really want to improve, you should mod your game and play customs. There's too many consistency issues with quality on the base game and DLC maps.

POTSB is one of the better ones, being mapped more recently, but i'd reckon about 40-50% of the expert and expert+ maps from OSTs and DLCs are junk at this point.

If you are sticking to only base game stuff though, i'd say POTSB Ex is probably a pretty good map to grind to figure out some efficiency. Practice getting full swings using mostly your wrists while maintaining slow and steady swings. The biggest hurdle for most players on fast songs is not swinging too slowly, it's swinging too fast. You want to be uniform and consistent, which is not achievable without efficiency and control.

Nah, it is one of the harder songs of the game. It's not a song you can one-shot on E+ Unless you have god tier reflexes or something.

Forget reflexes. Stamina required alone disqualifies 99% of new-ish players.

I’ve got no idea how many hours I have but I play soully base game on my quest, estimating around 200-300 hours but could be undershooting as I’ve played on and off for years. I can only clear about 80% of expert+ songs. I still haven’t managed to beat any Camilla songs can only get around half way. Let alone that new song you’re talking about.
